Now in Public Beta only: VR HOT 0.11

[p]Hi friends,

for those who aren't familiar with our Beta procedure, please read the following explanations. For everyone else, feel free to jump to the next column.

We started rolling out BETA versions of our game first, followed by the regular update 1-2 weeks later. If you're interested in participating as a beta user, simply head over to your Steam library, click the cog wheel, select "Properties" > "Betas" and choose "public-beta" from the drop-down menu.[/p][p]If you prefer to wait for the regular update, there's no need to do anything but sit tight, as it will be coming soon.

Thanks to the many users who provided feedback during our first-ever Alpha phase, which marked the beginning of our transition to URP, we were able to make faster progress than expected and can already give you access to a Beta version.

If you’re not yet familiar with what this is about, please read our previous announcement about the Alpha program.

Users participating in the Alpha phase were able to confirm our observations of 20–40% better performance. In most cases, weaker PCs are seeing the biggest improvements.

Many PCs that were previously not even able to start VR HOT should now be able to run it. VR HOT also requires less VRAM now — in some cases 6 GB may be enough.

Performance and graphic fidelity should now be on par with or better than any earlier version of VR HOT for all users!

There is one known issue in Desktop Mode: DLSS can cause a glitch when changing the quality level in-game. Please restart VR HOT after changing the quality level.

Take care
VR HOT

VR HOT 0.11 now available in the alpha channel!

[p]Hi friends,

in our last announcement, we explained our transition to URP. We’ve made faster progress than expected and can already give you access to an Alpha version.[/p][p]For you, the process is essentially the same as our usual Beta procedure, which will follow this Alpha phase before the regular update release in a couple of weeks.

If you're interested in participating as an alpha user, simply head over to your Steam library, click the cog wheel, select "Properties" > "Betas" and choose "public-alpha" from the drop-down menu.[/p][p]If you prefer to wait for the beta version or the regular update, there's no need to do anything but sit tight, as it will be coming soon.

Please keep in mind that this is an experimental Alpha version. We don’t expect major stability issues, but there may be visual glitches that we’d appreciate you reporting.

So far, we’ve observed 20–40% better performance. In most cases, lower-end PCs are seeing the biggest improvements. Many systems that were previously unable to start VR HOT should now be able to run it. VR HOT also requires less VRAM - in some cases, 6 GB might be sufficient. Please let us know if you can confirm this.

If you’re interested in testing an early version and are willing to share your experiences and constructive feedback, welcome to the Alpha program!

For this phase, please focus on two areas: performance and graphic fidelity.

Performance: All users - especially those with lower-tier GPUs (10XX and 20XX series) - should see significant improvements. On our test systems, we’re seeing 20–40% better performance. Let us know how it runs on your setup.[/p][p]Graphic Fidelity: As mentioned in our previous announcement, the URP quality is already on par or better overall. However, you may notice some areas that are still a bit rough around the edges. Please tell us which elements you think need further refinement.

Thanks for your support!

Take care

Letter from the Devs: Bad News and Good News

[p]Hi friends,[/p][p][/p][p]we have bad news and good news. Let’s start with the bad news - and at least it’s short: we won’t be releasing an update in the next couple of weeks.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Now for the good news: VR HOT will come back faster, better, stronger, and better looking.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Let us explain.[/p][p]
[/p][p]VR HOT is developed using the Unity game engine. Unity offers two different systems for graphics and visual effects, known as rendering pipelines.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The first one is HDRP. It was designed for high-end visuals in high-end PC games. This is what the current PCVR version of VR HOT on Steam is using. However, HDRP is limited to PC platforms.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The second one is URP. This is what the Quest version of VR HOT (available on our Patreon page) already uses. URP is more flexible, more adaptive, and leaner. Out of the box, it didn’t offer the same high-end visual possibilities as HDRP - but we were able to implement these capabilities ourselves.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Modern Unity VR development has now shifted almost entirely toward URP. This is one of the reasons why we are rebuilding VR HOT using URP - but there are many more.[/p][p]
[/p][p]It will be faster.
VR HOT is a demanding application, and especially on lower-end PCs it has always been challenging to achieve smooth and satisfying performance. URP gives us much better tools to optimize performance and improve playability.[/p][p]
[/p][p]It will look better.
We’ve already created internal test setups comparing both pipelines, and our customized URP version is now producing better visual results overall than HDRP.[/p][p]
[/p][p]It will speed up updates.
So far, we’ve had to update the PCVR and Quest versions separately. After switching the PC version to URP and reconstructing the Quest version, we’ll have a more unified development workflow, allowing us to deliver updates more easily and much faster.[/p][p]
[/p][p]It will enable more platforms.
With exciting new headsets on the horizon, we want to be ready for platforms like AndroidXR, Steam Machine and Steam Frame, but also Pico (and more). URP makes this possible.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Last but not least, these changes will make all HottieCards fully compatible across all versions of VR HOT![/p][p]
[/p][p]As mentioned at the beginning, this means we likely won’t be able to release a major update within the next two months - but we’re confident the wait will be worth it.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Thanks for sticking with us![/p][p]
[/p][p]Take care

Welcome to VR HOT!

[p]Hi friends,[/p][p][/p][p]the latest Steam Winter Sale has been a huge success for VR HOT, and we’re thrilled to welcome so many new users today![/p][p]
[/p]
THANK YOU
[p]First of all, thank you for choosing to purchase our software. When we started working on VR HOT back in 2020, we never dared to imagine what we’ve achieved so far.[/p][p]None of this would have been possible without the early and ongoing support from our users - those who have helped us grow and evolve since our first release in 2021. So thank you for that, too![/p][p]VR HOT is still part of the Steam Early Access Program and remains actively in development. Roughly every two months, we release updates that include new features, improvements, and bug fixes.[/p][p]We’d love for you to help us make it even better - join the discussion on the Steam forums and on our Discord.[/p][p]Screenshot: VR HOT Discord server[/p]

LEARN AND FIND HELP
[p]VR HOT isn’t a finished product yet. We’re pushing the limits of what’s currently technically possible, and some features are still experimental. Because of that, things can be a bit rough around the edges, and you might occasionally need a hand figuring something out.[/p][p]Screenshot: VR HOT Website [/p][p]In addition to the Steam forums and our Discord we recommend visiting our homepage. You will find FAQs, videos, our hand tracking guide, and plenty of other helpful resources.[/p]
More VR HOT
[p]We currently go back and forth between the PCVR version here on Steam and a passthrough-only version for Meta Quest headsets, which is available as a subscription on our Patreon page.[/p][p]Screenshot: VR HOT for Quest (Standalone, passthrough-only), available on Patreon.

If you are interested in exploring the world of VR HOT beyond Steam (Quest standalone version, AI service, etc.), be sure to check out our Patreon page![/p][p]

We’re not done yet - so let’s have fun and make this experience even better together!
