Perfect run in the Corsairs Legacy game?

Hello everyone! We analyzed all the feedback and spent a few days polishing the run animation chosen by you, but it was worth it. We got the result that our development team is happy with and we think that it finally looks great. You can see it in the new development diary:

Because of the long process of making this run animation, we’re a little behind schedule. We understand that in the first game character movements could be rough at times, but we think that right now it’s more important to finish all animations for the game and then polish them over time.

Nevertheless, an outside perspective allows us to better understand how good the animation is. We make every character movement from scratch for the game. In the new video you can see some combat animations that are already in the game:
  • Cutting attack version 1
  • Cutting attack version 2
  • Thrust
  • Circular attack
  • Striking attack
  • Block
  • Parry
  • Feint
  • A couple of idle combat animations (3 of them)

We can’t wait for your feedback in the comments on the new devlog.



Now, it’s time to talk about the growth of the Corsairs Legacy community. On our official website, we plan to post a catalog of all items from the game with their descriptions and the ability to leave comments underneath. Every quest will also get an official page with a short description and the ability to discuss it. In this way, the players will be able to find all information in one place, and we’ll be able to promptly make changes to the game while analyzing feedback from the website.

Weapon in the Corsairs Legacy Game

Hello everyone! It’s been another week and you’re reading a new Corsairs Legacy devlog.

Last week we finished modeling cold weapons, and now it’s time to talk about our plans for weapons in the first Corsairs Legacy game. There will be 21 cold weapons and 6 mass-production pistols in the game. We also plan to add unique blades but it hasn’t been decided yet.

Each class of cold weapons will have 7 blades. We had to study many sources to collect a credible list of weapons of that time with their accurate characteristics. While analyzing Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships, we found out that the weight of blades doesn’t correspond to the weight of real weapons. For example, in the game, the falchion weighs 4.8 kg, but in reality, it weighs from 0.5 to 0.9 kg.

In Corsairs Legacy, weapons preserve their historical characteristics, appearance, and weight. For each blade, we tried to find photos of real analogs and compared the results with them.

  • Light weapons include blades with a weight of no more than 2.4 pounds, that’s equal to 1 090 g.
  • Medium weapons include blades with a weight between 2.4 and 2.8 pounds, an upper bound corresponds to 1 270 g.
  • Heavy weapons include blades with weight no less than 2.8 pounds.

Choose Run Animation for the Corsairs Legacy Game

In every previous video about Corsairs Legacy you’ve been seeing the third version of run animation. We added it to the game at the last moment before the teaser, replacing the less smooth second version. We knew that the current implementation is far from perfect and started working on the fourth version.

It’s important to understand that when the game’s speed is doubled, the animations become less smooth, as you could see in the teaser.

We have prepared two more run animations for this devlog, inspired by two other RPG games: GreedFall and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Run animations of the main characters in these two popular RPGs are quite different from the current run animation in Corsairs Legacy.

Roleplaying system in the Corsairs Legacy game

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube] Hello everyone. Today we will be talking about the roleplaying system in the game. While making the game’s roleplaying system, we tried to take into account the advantages of known skill systems from Sea Dogs and Fallout, such as PIRATES and SPECIAL, as well as different approaches to implement a roleplaying system similar to other relevant games.

In our view, it’s important to give the player several strategies of skill development, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In Corsairs Legacy, blades will have three weight classes:
  • light;
  • medium;
  • heavy.

After completing missions and engaging in combat the character gets experience, which allows them to level up. As the character’s level grows, the characteristics also grow, for example, health and energy consumed in combat. Also, when a new level is reached, the character gets one point of “characteristic” and one point of “skill”.



The game has 6 main characteristics:
  • strength – increases character’s health points. Developing strength also allows to use medium and heavy weapons without penalties to damage;
  • agility – increases the mastery of all types of weapons, including firearms, as well as chance of dealing critical damage;
  • charisma – allows the character to talk their way into more profitable deals;
  • stamina – increases the maximum weight the character can carry and reduces energy consumption in combat;
  • learnability – allows to increase the growth of health, energy and maximum weight;
  • luck – affects the value of items the player can find after defeating enemies and inside chests.

Let’s discuss abilities. There Are 20 of them and when you get to the next level, you get to develop one of the abilities from the following categories:
  • attack
  • defense
  • stamina
  • skills

Economy in the Corsairs Legacy Game

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube] Hello everyone. We’re actively working on Corsairs Legacy, we continue, step by step, to finish logical modules of the game and to share info with our audience.

In the new devlog we’ll tell you about the economy in the game. First, we’ll tell you about the groups of items in the game. Weapons will be represented by cold weapons and pistols. We’ll talk about weapons in more detail in another video. Also, there will be consumable items in the game, such as gunpowder, ammo, potions and elixirs. There will also be charms, gems, jewelry and household items.

Before we started to work on pricing, we had to figure out game currency. One of the primary coins of that time was Spanish peso, similarly to piastre, containing metal, their fineness and weight was the same. Spanish peso is a silver coin weighing about 26-27 g, with fineness from 900 to 999. There was another currency in Spain at that time. Gold real, that was commonly known as escudo, was equal to 2 pesos.

There will be 4 the most famous gemstones in the game:
  • ruby
  • sapphire
  • emerald
  • diamond

A player will encounter them most commonly in trading, that’s why we’ll only be looking at processed gemstones in the game. To calculate the price for each gemstone, we studied several historical sources.
