[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube] Hello everyone, 2 more weeks of active work have flown by, and you are reading the second Corsairs Legacy development diary. We made a playlist on the Corsairs Legacy official YouTube channel, where we'll add new videos about the development, which will allow you to see the complete list of already available videos on the topic in a convenient format. We also made a playlist with all original game soundtracks, which we’ll be talking about later.

In today’s diary, we’ll tell you about challenges that Twitch and YouTube content creators face, and why game developers should choose background music in their games more carefully, not only to capture the atmosphere, but also to avoid copyright issues.

As game developers, we purchase all soundtracks and sound effects on special platforms and we haven’t encountered issues with right of use on YouTube. In February 2021 we released Save the Pirate: Sea Story for PC on Steam. One of the popular let’s players complimented our game, while pointing out the only flaw about background music. He had to turn it off – YouTube notified him that he had to own a license for the soundtrack that we used in the game. And two months later we received 2 copyright claims for the soundtracks that were playing during the Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail stream on our YouTube channel.

We uploaded all purchased audio files on YouTube and saw that all of them had copyright restrictions. Unfortunately, we figured that out 2 weeks before publishing a teaser for Corsairs Legacy. Popular in the CIS countries YouTube blogger quickly make a soundtrack for the teaser and Pirate Battleship game on CorsairsLegacy.com.

While preparing audio for the announcement, we started to work on background music for the game. We made 3 original quality compositions that will let players fully enjoy the world of pirate romanticism and to feel nostalgia from the experience in game battles. You can listen to all soundtracks in a separate playlist on your YouTube channel!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]It’s been 2 weeks since Corsairs Legacy announcement and, as promised, here is the first video about the development process.

Before we started working on the game’s story, we studied a lot of existing film adaptations, novels and games on that topic. Looking back at every book about Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini and other creations about pirates, we studied historical materials about Henry Morgan's biography and decided to focus on Captain Blood: His Odyssey universe.

Storyline of Corsairs Legacy was created considering game mechanics that will be available by the time the game comes out. In the first game, the story will take place on land and based on third-person RPG mechanics. In the second game, the story will include sea battles, along with third-person RPG gameplay. The second game’s story arc will end in a way so that in the third game, a player could choose their own path.

For the main character, we chose bright and charismatic Jack Rackham, close to the Black Sails’ series character. Game presents an alternative life of Jack Rackham, more noble and heroic than historical truth, according to which he showed cowardice when his ship was attacked, while his cohabitants Anne Bonny and Mary Read were furiously fighting for their freedom, and as a result he was hanged.



We kept the original history of the flag, which became a symbol of pirates in our days. The flag consists of a skull and two sables, where the skull represents Jack Rackham, and two sables – Anne Bonny and Mary Read. We were using this image when creating Corsairs Legacy logo.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube] Today we would like to present you a project that will let fans of Sea Dogs play absolutely new and modern game, the goal of which is to continue the legendary series about pirates. This project is a legacy of Sea Dogs and will be called, respectively, Corsairs Legacy.

We announced as soon as we gathered the full team, implemented all base mechanics of RPG and got good graphics for the alpha version of the game. New game is being developed in the Unity engine.

During the past six months we talked to a lot of famous developers of the Sea Dogs series, mod developers, developers of other projects related to the game. We gained experience, learned features of the series, strong and weak aspects, to take into consideration for our Corsairs.
