Behold... meet the mighty Machine!

⠀⠀

Introduction

Hi Survivors!

I can't believe it's been a month since our first DevLog, and remembering the promise we made to improve communication, we'd like to show you the next stage of work on the Survival Machine! What to expect from today’s read? Let us introduce you to The Machine!

I'd like to emphasize that what you're going to see will certainly undergo some changes, but I'm still curious about your reaction and opinion on our progress. We think things are moving in the right direction, but there's always room for improvement and implementation of feedback!

So let me introduce you to… The Machine.

The Machine

⠀ ⠀⠀
The machine is crucial. Without it, there's no chance of survival and reaching the last bastion of humanity. For every Survivor, the well-being of their Machine should be paramount because its demise also means the end of the adventure.

So how do I make this colossus do its thing? There are a few things you need to keep an eye on if you want your Machine to run smoothly. First of all…
Fuel
Fuel! Such a giant requires significant amounts of energy to exist, and the heart of the Machine is our furnace. Remember, its depths are forever hungry!

Our furnace can digest different fuel types, but some resources work better than others. Coal and other high-calorie resources will ensure a smooth ride for a longer time but are a touch harder to get.

Fuel enables resource processing which allows you to change basic resources into more advanced crafting materials.
Resource processing
So how do I make a rope for example? The process is straightforward but not necessarily simple. First, you need to gather resources for components to make thick cloth (3 units of cloth and 1 unit of fabric scrap).

All of the basic materials you can find in our world, you just have to look carefully. When you have your ingredients, bring them back to the resource processing station and make sure there’s fuel in the Machine. No fuel, no resource processing.

Once you’re able to make 3 units of thick cloth just add some plant fibre and… viola! You just made a rope!
Sonar
Very useful, you know? The technology is very new and still a little shaky but it will help you orient yourself in the Survival Machine world.

What information can you extract using your sonar? First of all your in-game friends. Thanks to this latest technological achievement not only you’ll be able to locate your friends on the map but also discover resources and blueprints to unlock new technology.

Also! What if you need to pinpoint a position for your mate to go and find some resources? Sonar is very handy then because it can shoot up a visible flare from miles around. But remember! The sonar works only while the Machine is on the move!
Machine upgrades
With time spent in Survival Machine, you'll quickly find out that your Machine is not at its peak power. But worry not! You’ll have an abundance of opportunities to upgrade your machine and make it a truly unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

Don't get me wrong, the Machine is a powerful tool just as it is, but progress and further development help immensely!

But how does it make your life easier? With each subsequent upgrade of the Machine, its power increases. This allows for faster processing of needed materials. But not only that! You can increase the speed of your Machine and make it harder for zombies to climb.

⠀⠀

Look at how the interior of our machine room, the heart of our Machine, is going to change throughout the game. A new engine room = a faster and more powerful machine, thanks to which you can create increasingly advanced designs.
Map
You'll start in a biome with a moderate climate, a world full of beautiful forests, abandoned saloons, and other structures testifying to the once-thriving civilization. But there’s more in the Survival Machine world!

You can travel to an alpine region where the snow never melts or to the scorching desert where bones lie for vultures to feast on (although we have no vultures in our game but you get my point, right?). In order to travel through the biomes you need to upgrade your Machine.

Wrap up

Thank you very much for taking a moment to read our second vlog. I hope it has somewhat clarified how your Machine will work and what you can expect from it.

As always, I encourage you to leave a comment with your feedback, suggestions, and ratings. And of course, don't forget to join our community on Discord and add our game to your wishlist! See you at the next Devlog.

Dzięki!

The gears of development are moving!!

⠀⠀⠀

1. Intro

Hello Survivors!

We're excited to share that we're kicking off development logs to keep you in the loop about our progress. We know it's been a while since we communicated with you. We want to apologise for that and what’s more important: we want to change that. Expect to find details about what's coming up, content updates, progress GIFs, photos, and sneak peeks into our (not-so) future plans. Stay tuned for some insights into our development journey!
2. Our path until today

To help us get funding, we have created a trailer to showcase our vision. Its success helped us find a publisher, secure funding, and start the initial development phase (I was there Gandalf…). That was a big thing for us as we could concentrate on what we really wanted to do - a fun game we all could enjoy.
We were filled with joy and a sense of purpose. Unfortunately, after the pre-production, the publisher had to step back due to industry crises. As you can imagine that was a huge blow and step-back for us and we were very close to wrapping the whole thing up.

However! Thanks to the funding we acquired later, we're now in a solid position to persist with development and actively seek out a new partner for our project.

3. What to expect from Survival Machine?

We know what game we want to build. We're excited to start sharing our game concept with you! We want to highlight the game’s mood, style and features that define Survival Machine. Here are some of the pillars of our gameplay:
 • We’re creating a lighthearted survival-adventure game centred around exploration and fighting zombies
 • The game is about the journey of the machine and you alongside it
 • At its essence, the game has been made to deliver a fun experience, especially when played with friends (up to 4 players)
 • There are multiple playstyles available, in combat and in gathering resources
 • Approach it with a good sense of humour—it's designed to be enjoyed with a wink and not taking itself too seriously.
4. Features

Consider this as our first iteration—just a little peek into the evolving world of Survival Machine we're creating. Although the game development has been ongoing for over a year now, not everything is set in stone.
We acknowledge the possibility that not all of our ideas will work in the game, and we would greatly appreciate hearing some feedback from you, because you and your feedback and insights will play a crucial role in shaping the subsequent versions of the game.
Get ready to witness (and help with) the transformation as we work very hard to enhance and refine Survival Machine!
4.1 Machine concept
Here you get a sneak peek at the initial machine concept, it has changed a lot and we will reveal the whole machine in the future! Follow our journey to be among the first to see the final model working in the game :)
4.2 Melee combat
As you well know yourself, no self-respecting survival game can do without hand-to-hand combat (especially when it has zombies in it). The same applies to the Survival Machine of course. In our game, you will find various types of melee weapons, ranging from pickaxes and axes primarily used for resource gathering (though they can be used for combat as a last resort), to classic melee weapons such as clubs or swords. But wait, there’s more!
1. We have a few features that work well here:
• Weapons have different combo lengths and special attacks
 • Players can kick zombies and they fall from the machine (or other ledges, believe us - it's fun!)
 • Player can block enemy attacks
 • Shields have a block rate shown by a number of shields on the screen
2. Next steps are to:
• implement new zombie hit reactions (check the next section for some visuals)
 • implementing a perfect block that will stun a zombie
 • adding critical chances for special weapons
 • general polish of animations and our zombie behaviour
4.3 New Hit Reactions for Zombies
⠀⠀

Although it's currently a visual concept, its cool aesthetics will soon come to life in the game. The implementation phase is just around the corner!
4.4 Artillery
What will you be shooting from?

 • cannon - a cannon is a formidable artillery piece characterised by its large calibre and the ability to launch projectiles over substantial distances
 • light cannon - a light cannon is a compact artillery piece characterised by its relatively smaller calibre and lightweight design.
 • mortar - mortars are typically used for indirect fire, with the projectiles arcing high into the air before descending onto the target. They are known for their versatility.
 • scorpio - just as effective as in Roman times. Especially formidable at medium distances.
 • ballista - On the battlefield, ballista plays a role in providing ranged support and harassing zombies

We've also added a special mechanic that allows for faster reloading. If you manage to press the action button at the right moment, you'll significantly increase your rate of fire:

5. There’s more to come!

Exciting times lie ahead for future Survival Machine players! This year is crucial for us, and we're gearing up to engage our community with a variety of activities. While the specifics are under wraps for now, rest assured there will be enticing opportunities for participation.

As you see, a lot is happening around Survival Machine, and it's certainly not the last you'll hear from us.
 • It would be really great if you could join us on our Discord, just click this button -
 • If you have any feedback for us - good or bad - please share your thoughts! While we may not be able to implement all the feedback we receive from you, we will definitely read and consider each one 🙂
 • Follow us on social media!
 • Wishlist the game ;))

Most notably, we're thrilled to announce that a playable build will be available for the most eager and enthusiastic participants (again, please check our Discord)!

Keep it up!
