Frostpunk 2's first bit of DLC gets a seasonally appropriate release date, though it does sound a bit bare-bones

I know that with winter on the way, you might be wanting to play some summery games to remind you of what life was like before Jack Frost started nipping at your chestnuts. Put that to the side, perhaps, just for a while, as developer 11 bit studios have revealed the release date for Frostpunk 2's first bit of DLC, Fractured Utopias.

With winter about to seize half of the world in a frigid grasp once more, could there be a better time to hunker down at home with the Frostpunk 2 Fractured Utopias DLC - the first paid content patch since one of the best city-building games released last year? This new expansion adds a bunch of extra skill trees, over 100 narrative events, and lots more to, you guessed it, Utopia mode. That means you can struggle to survive the never-ending winter of the survival game as the hopefully non-hazardous version of the same season outside your house simply suggests you wear a coat outside as opposed to, say, six layers and ski goggles.

8 Utopias with New Skill Trees
[p]We’ve heard your feedback about faction playability and the desire for more distinctive experiences. In Fractured Utopias, each faction now offers truly unique gameplay.
[/p][p]The DLC introduces a redesigned starting screen, where you choose one of 8 well-known factions to shape your city’s destiny. This decision determines the type of utopia you will strive to build. Will you pursue technological dominance with the Technocrats? Or lead a militarized society with the Legionnaires? The choice is yours.[/p][p]
From the moment you select your faction, you gain access to a unique skill tree, unlocking new abilities, buildings, and hubs. Progress through it by performing actions that earn the favor of your chosen faction.[/p][p][/p][p]Each faction also comes with distinct traits, providing passive bonuses that support your city’s survival and efficiency. As you advance, you will notice your city gradually transforming to reflect your faction’s theme, making every playthrough truly dedicated to your chosen faction.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p]
New Tales and Maps
[p]Fractured Utopias adds two new narrative Tales, and a new map designed on their basis, introducing fresh challenges and threats to your city:
[/p][p]Plague - A mysterious disease spreads rapidly. Act fast to discover the cure before your city turns into a frozen graveyard.
[/p][p]Doomsayers - A new faction emerges, spreading despair and declaring that all hope is lost. They will sabotage your city’s morale, forcing you to confront their growing influence.
[/p][p] [dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

[p] [/p][p]We can’t wait for you to experience Fractured Utopias.

We hope this new chapter brings even more depth, challenge, and emotional connection to your city, and strengthens the bond you’ve built with your favorite factions.
[/p][p]Stay warm, Citizens.

We will need you to turn these scatters into real utopia...

Frostpunk 2 dev shares emergency crash fix as master city builders reach settlement sizes previously thought impossible

Yet entrepreneurial players forged in the fires of the best city-building games won't be cowed so easily, and now developer 11 bit studios has been forced to step in due to players achieving build sizes that were previously thought to be impossible.

Exceeding Object Limit Crashes
[/p][p]Starting from the very first day of our Frostpunk 2 journey, we were stunned by the size of some of your Utopia Builder creations, which sometimes felt to us as not achievable during regular playthrough.

Unfortunately, as beautiful a sight it is, some of you were reaching out to us that at some point, their favourite save file is no longer loading, or the game is crashing with the following message:[/p][p]Maximum number of UObjects (2162688) exceeded when trying to add 1 object(s), make sure you update MaxObjectsInGame/MaxObjectsInEditor/MaxObjectsInProgram in project settings.
[/p][p]This means that you have reached the limit of how many objects the game engine can handle safely, and the title will shut down. [/p][p]We have had numerous internal discussions about how to address this issue, aside from regular optimisation work. We decided to share with you how the object limit can be changed manually through the game files. It should be used only as a final solution and only against the crash containing the above message. Additionally, we strongly advise against using this method on low and mid-end PCs. [/p][p]Our team will look for less game file-intrusive solutions in future updates.[/p][p][/p][p]WARNING BEFORE YOU PROCEED[/p][p]Please be cautious when applying. Raising the object limit may lead to performance issues, overloading your PC's memory and further unknown instabilities. [/p][p]Frostpunk 2 was not designed and optimised past this point, and you should monitor your PC memory when playing. Don’t apply this change until you are experiencing the above crash.[/p][p][/p]
  1. [p]Head to your local appdata Frostpunk 2 directory[/p]
  2. [p]Find Engine.ini file [/p]
  3. [p]Open it for editing [/p]
  4. [p]Add the following lines*
    [/p]
[p]\[/Script/Engine.GarbageCollectionSettings][/p][p]gc.MaxObjectsInEditor=100000000[/p][p]gc.MaxObjectsInGame=100000000
[/p]
  1. [p]Save the file[/p]
  2. [p]Launch the title and attempt to continue your previously crashing playthrough[/p]
[p][/p][p]*can be any value bigger than 2162688[/p][p]

Take care,

~ 11 bit studios Team[/p]
