Fantastic co-op sandbox Core Keeper is adding an explosive new biome and boss for free

We're spoiled for choice when it comes to the best sandbox games that you can play with friends. But while it's easy to fall back on big names like Minecraft, Terraria, and Stardew Valley, I'd recommend gathering your group for a few sessions of Core Keeper. Launched out of early access in 2024 to a 94%-positive Steam reception, it's a very worthy addition to the collection, and it's about to get even bigger. Developer Pugstorm has just unveiled its next update, Void and Voltage, which adds a new biome, dungeon, and boss to discover, and it'll be arriving for free in January.

Core Keeper's “Void & Voltage” is Launching January 28th 2026!

We’re positively buzzing with excitement to let you know that Core Keeper’s next major content update, Void & Voltage, is coming on January 28th 2026! We had a lot of ambitious ideas for this one, which we’ve added along with plenty of community requested features. Read on to find out what’s coming your way early next year.
New Biome Beyond the Passage!
Those of you who have made it to the outermost regions of the underground might have thought that you’d reached the end of the world. Well, that’s the thing about ancient underground caverns…just when you think you’ve explored everything, something new and exciting crops up on the horizon!

Welcome to Breaker’s Reach. This brand-new biome is bristling with untold secrets and inorganic life. Navigating this mechanical world won’t be easy, with Chargers, Patrollers, and Swarmers protecting the valuable resources within, but it’ll be worth the challenge for access to new tools, weapons, gear sets, and crafting materials!
Meet S.A.H.A.B.A.R
We weren’t about to reveal a whole new biome without giving you a cool new boss and mysterious dungeon for you to explore. If you’ve ever wanted to re-create your favourite anime scenes and battle a GIGANTIC robot, then you’re in luck! S.A.H.A.B.A.R is a machine straight out of your nightmares with laser-targeted energy beams and special abilities that’ll put your timing to the test!
Automation for the Nation
With a machinery-focused new biome and more robots than you can shake a Solarite Sword at, you’re gonna have your hands full of mechanical parts. If only there were new and exciting automation features to craft with them…Introducing the Advanced Automation Table, an all-new workbench that’s set to make your lives easier from here on out!

Whether you’re looking to streamline gardening with the new Seed Extractor and Robot Farm Arm, or you’re ready for new and improved salvaging and item disposal, this handy workbench has a whole host of new crafting recipes just waiting to be uncovered. There are oodles of new automation systems and electronics coming to Void & Voltage, such as new generators, critter catchers, proximity sensors, and more!
“Fire in the Hole!”
You can expect lots of new gear with this update, Explorers, including miniguns, mortars, grenades, and even remote detonators. Oh, and did we mention the new flamethrower? You’ll light up the underground with this handheld weapon…just watch out for oil barrels, rumour has it they can get a little explode-y around fire. We’re also adding a bunch of new decorative items, armour sets, new off-hand items and accessories, and an all-new minion and tome. We could spend forever listing all the new additions, but we think it’s much more fun to go out and discover them for yourselves! Be careful, though – we weren’t kidding about the oil.
Void Sub-Biome
There’s something strange occurring in the underground where the very fabric of spacetime seems to warp and tear, creating an otherworldly new sub-biome filled with threatening variations on some familiar enemies. Expect to cross paths with Void Larvae (emerging from Void Coccoons!), Void Cavelings, Void Shaman, and Void Brutes! These enemy variants use a never-seen-before combat mechanic, allowing them to make special attacks such as explosive flames, spinning arcane beams, and lightning orbs! We’re very keen to hear what you think of this all-new system and if it is something you’d like us to continue developing. Keep your wits about you, Explorers. Standard enemy variants aren’t the only things that have crossed the void…beware the Void Hydra!
And More
Echo maps that are used to locate important areas within the world (we know you’ve been asking for this one!), 6 new crafting statues with waypoints, a whole host of new scenes, new achievements, new paintable items, minion improvements, the ability to break previously indestructible items…the list goes on. We’ll share the full patch notes when the update launches on January 28th 2026!

We can’t wait to hear what you think of Void & Voltage when it launches on January 28th. In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye out for more insights and info about the new update over on the official Core Keeper community Discord, X, Bluesky, and Instagram accounts!
