Check what’s next for Project Warlock II

Hey everyone!

Thank you for all the feedback that you keep sharing with us on Steam forums, our official Discord, and directly. Early Access of Project Warlock II has only just started but our team is hard at work on Chapter 2 and improving the game overall.

Before the release, we’ve spent over six months playtesting Project Warlock II with both internal and external QA teams, Kickstarter backers, and selected Discord users. The Early Access launch has brought an influx of a completely fresh perspective on the game with your forum comments, Discord messages, and over 150 Steam reviews. Some of them were pretty detailed and probably most helpful in identifying issues to address. We’re grateful for each and every piece of feedback that you decided to share, and please keep it coming!

While we’re pretty sure we won’t be able to satisfy everyone as opinions always differ, just like some like DOOM more than Quake, and otherwise. Still, our main goal right now is to find the right balance between the new ideas, building upon the original game, and addressing some of your most voiced requests for changes.

With that in mind, we want to share with you our 2022 roadmap for the game:

We want to complete this roadmap by the end of the year, updating it as we go and then providing the next one. At the same time, we’re keeping room for potential patches, fixes, and updates that might be needed along the way. We already had our first two patches released, adding a highly requested reload option, nerfing down the Necrogirl, and adding various visual and gameplay fixes, and with lots more to come.

We’d also like you to know what you can expect from the game content-wise. A Single Stage option, as well as two additional difficulty levels, will be introduced in the near future. Weapons rebalancing and modifications are to follow. These will offer deeper customization options for the guns allowing you to upgrade your favorite tools of destruction further.

Given the nature of Early Access, almost every aspect of the game can be subject to change or at least a deeper discussion between you and the developers. We want to run the most significant and impactful changes through you. Soon you’ll be able to access and comment on beta branch builds with experimental versions of changes like the overhauled weapons system, new Single Stage mode, and Photo Mode. Follow our channels for updates on when these will become available.

A lot of stuff is happening, and the whole team is very happy and motivated by your reception, even if a bit tired with the amount of work. Still, one of the highlights of recent weeks was the endorsement we got from our personal hero, one of the creators of DOOM, John Romero himself.

Running with Akimbo

Once again, thank you for all the feedback, comments, messages, and Steam reviews as they help us shape Project Warlock II into a better game. Please keep them coming!

Here’s a changelog for our latest patch that updates the game to version 0.2.5.41:
  • Rebaked Occlusion Culling for all levels - issues with textures not appearing properly should now be resolved
  • Applied a potential fix for imps jumping outside of the geometry and shooting from behind walls
  • Tweaked Akimbo cooldown mechanics. Now when using akimbo and switching to other weapons the cooldown timer will be shorter as long as you don't disable it manually or use the whole akimbo time
  • The Run key binding is updated to enable Walking when Autorun is toggled on
  • Reduced the amount of quicksave slots to one. If you rename the quicksave, a new quicksave will be made instead

We’re updating our production schedule based on your feedback and plan to share a more detailed roadmap for the rest of the year soon.

Also, please make sure to leave a review if you like the game. Steam likes that and gets our game in front of more people this way.

Reload enabled, Necrogirl nerfed, and other fixes

Hey everyone!

Thank you very much for all the feedback and please find the first wave of fixes, changes, and tweaks. Some of them add requested features (looking at you, Reload) and enemy nerfs (sorry, Necrogirl) that are generally rebalancing the game. Others fix some outstanding issues.

We’re already hard at work on the next batch of improvements that you suggested on Steam forums and on Discord and will continue to do so.

Since Project Warlock II is in Early Access, you can expect that a lot of the areas of the game might still undergo a major overhaul.

Here’s a full changelog for the 0.2.5.34 build version:

QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES
  • Added option of closing the tutorial with interaction
  • Added option of closing the tutorial with the pause button
  • Added an error message on game start if there are any issues with IO access to folders to avoid the game being stuck at the logo screen
  • Added Coyote Time. Jumping should feel more predictable now
  • Added Manual Reload Binding
  • Added 180-degree rotation Binding for controllers
  • Increased base controller sensitivity modifier

BALANCE
  • Reduced Necrogirl Projectile speed from 10m/s to 5m/s
  • Reduced Necrogirl Projectile homing time from 3s to 1.5s
  • Reduced Necrogirl Projectile damage from 15 to 5 per projectile
  • Reduced Turboknight Projectile speed from 40m/s to 25m/s

FIXES
  • Fixed font issues in the Russian localization
  • Fixed an issue where the fire spell bar under crosshair would stay after death
  • Fixed an issue when the game could be paused when exiting the upgrade station with the escape button

Next to fixing glitches and bugs encountered on your playthroughs, the first big improvement next in line is the weapons rebalancing and modifications. We want to offer deeper customization options for the guns allowing you to upgrade your favorite tools of destruction further.

We will share more details on the upcoming plans and an Early Access roadmap soon.

Also, please make sure to leave a review if you like the game. Steam likes that and gets our game in front of more people this way.

EARLY ACCESS LAUNCH

Project Warlock II is now available to play in Early Access!

Five years ago, when Project Warlock launched, it was already envisioned as the first part of the trilogy, and though 2018 seems like forever ago, we are now nearing the second step on that journey. And that one starts with a baby step for Palmer – the first of the three Warlocks to grace the game.

To get you in the right mood, we used one of the new tools you’ll get to use yourself in a matter of months. Photo Mode - currently in the testing phase - will allow you to craft your videos to the soundtrack of your choosing. And what better way to show a glimpse of the power of this tool than in our very own Project Warlock II Early Access launch trailer. In all, it’s 100% in-game captured footage glory.

Hopefully, by this time, you’re either a Backer or already have made up your mind to buy Project Warlock II, but let's assume you still need some convincing. And instead of us - let’s pass the mic over to one of the people responsible for the fact that a game like Project Warlock can even exist. So, without further ado – take it away, John.

Project Warlock II is a much more complex game than its predecessor, but talking about this seems kind of redundant with the first chapter of the game now available to play. So, grab the game with a launch discount or from one of the three bundles with even better offers.

The first Bundle comes courtesy of the Early Access behemoth – the super smooth, sexy ULTRAKILL from the retro shooter powerhouse New Blood Interactive.

The second in line is the new dude on the block bundle. Only the dude smokes, the block is pissed all over, and a cat is running for his life in the recently released POSTAL: Brain Damaged by the fellow Poles at Hyperstrange.

Last but not least is the Project Warlock I & II combo for those who never had the chance to play the first game and would like to give it a go.

This is just the beginning and we hope you'll join us on this ride and share your feedback on the forum and our Discord. Leave a review if you like it, and stay tuned for more!
