Forever Skies Gameplay Spotlight - The Build Tool

Hi! Today we would like to start a series of posts showing Forever Skies gameplay in more detail. Let’s talk airship building!

As you may already know your main base of operation is your airship. At some stage, you will have to expand it and rebuild parts of it when responding to environmental damage.
You will need more space to add specialized parts of the airship for laboratory, workshop, kitchen and much more. Additionally Forever Skies will offer you many customization options. We simply want players to have their very own flying base! The Build Tool which you will use to expand your base is very versatile and offers plenty of options from the start. In time and based on your discoveries, it will allow you to add more schematics. Of course in order to use the build tool you will have to get specific resources, this will be discussed in the future.

Please check out the GIFs below showing the build tool in action:

The tool enables you to build entire rooms with just one press of a button (providing you have the necessary materials). Making base building simple and easy! Once the structures are in place, add walls, windows, doors and more to make rooms complete!

The GIFs shows you some of the basic functions of the build tool, but that's not all! The tool can be used to make entire glass rooms, create different levels with ladders between floors and many more functions. We can’t wait to show you more very soon!

Also look! Build tool concept art!

Forever Skies, coming this year, looks like Fallout crossed with Subnautica in the sky

What happens to humanity's most impressive modern structures when there are no longer humans around to inhabit them? In Forever Skies, a unique survival game coming to Early Access on Steam later this year, they form a mysterious landscape above the clouds - one that's ripe to explore. Earth has been devastated by an environmental disaster, and you're a scientist returning many years later to sift through the runs from above.

As you can see in the trailer below, it's almost an airborne spin on Subnautica. You'll navigate the ruins of Earth in a high-tech airship, which you can land on the tops of devastated skyscrapers, where you can disembark and set out to comb through the remains of the megacorporations that built them. Polish developer Far From Home says you'll also be on the lookout for 'anomalies' to investigate and old technology to reverse-engineer.

You'll use the resources and know-how you pick up in your travels to upgrade and customise your ship, which you'll need to outfit with modules for food and other resource gathering.

Forever Skies looks a bit like Subnautica up in the air

Watching the trailer for upcoming craft-o-survival game Forever Skies, I now understand how people who fear the ocean must feel about Subnautica. While I'm at my happiest in water, I know depths and strange sealife give many others the heebie-jeebies. However, heights make me pray for death. So a game about exploring the skies and skyscrapers above the ruins of human civilisation in a customisable airship, ah yes, I would like to die now, thank you very much.

INCOMING MESSAGE...
HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT CONFIRMED

MULTIPLE UNKNOWN LIFEFORMS DETECTED BELOW TOXIC DUST CLOUD

SURVIVAL NOT GUARANTEED
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Welcome to the start of our adventure in Forever Skies! That you’re here reading this means a lot to us all here at Far From Home. This is quite an emotional moment as we’re finally able to show you the first bits of our upcoming creation, a game our 20+ team has been secretly working on for the past 2 years. And oh boy, what a journey it has been so far.

Forever Skies is a game of action, survival and discovery amongst the ruins of human civilization. A mass ecological disaster wiped out humanity, with only a few able to flee into space at the last hour. You, a lone scientist now returns to the remains of Earth. A toxic cloud of dust blankets the entire surface. Above the dust are crumbling, makeshift towers where humanity unsuccessfully made their last stand. It’s up to you to now uncover the story of humanity’s fall and witness the birth of a new world that has been evolving below the dust without us. We are no longer at the top of the food chain and surviving here is going to take a lot of skill, technology and ingenuity.

Build, expand and control a high-tech airship that will act as your transport, shelter, laboratory and workshop for researching mysterious substances and crafting tools for survival. Scavenge, find ways of obtaining food and resources, and explore the ruins above and below the thick, toxic dust layer which now shrouds the Earth’s surface.

Our team absolutely love all things survival Sci-fi and so we’re heavily influenced by movies like The Martian, Annihilation and IO Last on Earth to name just a few. Seeing scientists as grounded protagonists, fighting against the hostile environment to survive and doing what they can to get the job done is what gets our creative minds flowing. We’re hoping to give players that same feeling of when Matt Damon, as a stranded astronaut on Mars, says “I'm left with only one option, I'm gonna have to science the sh*t out of this.”

This is where we are heading, and what’s very important is that we want you guys to join us on this journey. We can't really see ourselves going forward without community feedback and participation in the future of Forever Skies.

The short gameplay teaser above is all taken from the game, running on Unreal Engine. It shows players searching for a specific virus strain. Something our protagonist needs in order to understand the unusual sickness that has attacked the remaining survivors. It is a tease of a much bigger picture, of a story we will tell later when we will be closer to the release of the full game. There is also still a whole lot more for us to show you. From resource management, building mechanics, monitoring health, reverse engineering lost tech and most importantly, what lies beneath the toxic dust that we will eventually need to descend into.
