Chilly DevLogs from Alaska! #92- Holy Men & Unholy Remains
Welcome to a 92 DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]Hello again, explorers!
Today we’d like to introduce two… very different residents of our little Alaskan settlement. One talks a lot. The other, thankfully, does not.
Let’s start with the man of the hour.
The Pastor - A Man of Faith
Every frontier town needs guidance. A moral compass. A calm, spiritual presence.
Our pastor provides… most of that.
Dressed head to toe in black, wearing a hat that has definitely seen things, and carrying a cross large enough to make anyone slightly nervous, he is one of the most recognizable figures in town. He delivers sermons, offers blessings, and somehow always appears exactly when something suspicious happens.

Did the saloon brawl escalate?
He was nearby.
Did someone “accidentally” lose a gold nugget behind the church?
He saw nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Did he organize a late-night “charity poker game”?
Technically, yes. Spiritually? Also yes.

He is an important (and slightly chaotic) part of the town’s social ecosystem. Sometimes he calms tensions. Sometimes he causes them. But without him, things would definitely feel… less interesting.
Let’s just say: if the town has secrets, he probably heard them first.

The Skeleton - A Former Dreamer of Gold
Now for someone much quieter.
Out in the cold wilderness, near the cliffs and the frozen shoreline, sits a skeleton. A hat still resting on its skull. A lantern by its side. A pickaxe not far away.

We like to think he was once a hopeful gold prospector who ventured just a bit too far in search of fortune. Maybe he found gold. Maybe he found only frostbite. Either way, Alaska won that round.
Don't worry, he won't talk in-game - that's just a funny animation we did ;) He now serves as a silent reminder that greed, ambition, and “just one more dig” can sometimes lead to very permanent consequences.
Don't worry, he is 100% non-interactive. Zero jumpscares or something like that. Alaska Gold Fever is not a fantasy game ;)
Living town and the world
Characters like the pastor and environmental storytelling like our dead prospector help give the world personality. Not everything needs a quest marker. Sometimes a hat, a lantern, and a suspiciously calm priest are enough to spark imagination.
Until then - stay warm!
