Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #9

Welcome to ninth DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hello travelers!
Welcome back in Alaska!

Today wanna show you one special character from game and some screenshots of night/day cycle!

Okay, first some technical stuff. Thats how this character looks "stripped" in graphic program. Looks kind of like it was in the notebook, eh? And of course obligatory "T-pose".

Our mister Bandit Number 1 in his grace! (Sometimes called just Johnny.)
Thats how our concept artist defined Johnny's hobbys:
"He enjoys walking at sunrise, raiding caravans, and drinking good whiskey with his saloon buddies"

He seems nice, okay ? In our game there you will need to survive in harsh Alaskan enviroment and remember: anything can kill you! Weather, cold, animals, plants and even people...
So we added some bandits who will roam an Alaskan snowy fields and sometimes will engage you!
Sometimes you can just scare them by using your trusty gun or just escape and avoid encounter.
Sure it adds some tension to this mininig/crafting game, eh?

Modeling persons is kind of hard, especially because they often go around. So you can have this in mind. Making stoic 3D object is far easier. Here you can see a progress of our Bandit Johnny.

Looks better.
After modeling, it's time for some textures and stuff. Ah, it also worth mentioning: hair is often very hard to make or they are very pain in the a... . Some developers often using special programs just to make a realistic looking and behawing hair (ex. hair in Tomb Raider 2013 from Crystal Dynamics studio)

I bet he is a guy who definetly stealed some candys from other children in kindergarden.
From concept art to fully rendered 3D model.
So our Johnny has come a long way to be that beautiful, doesn't he?
Alright time to show promised day/night cycle!
This little animation should show some good stuff.
I regret that Steam only allows media files up to 5 MB , it's looked better in 4K on my computer, believe me ;D

And also some screenshots. Static screenshots are kind of boring so we have choosen one best screenshot for day and one for night. Hope you liked it!

You won't believe how much time i spend compresing these screenshots :)
They must look good but also keep around 5 MB file size.

And now is time for some meme at the end of devlog ;) Will you sweep "to the right"?
