Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #12

Welcome to twelve DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hi, how are you guys?!

Here is another devlog about Alaska Gold Fever! We are on the roll! ;)
In this episode we will check some details about making a character and it's outfit and also gonna see what's in the GOLD MINE. I promised you a deeper look at gold mine last time so here we are!
Outfit fitted for a king!
The most important thing to wear in snowy Alaska! A pair of good boots!
Just look at this satisfying GIF! The moment it closes around the leg... ah! Great!

Also don't forget to wear your overalls! Most practical piece of clothing ever! You can wear it to work in garden, to work as plumber, to car repairs, to extract some gold in mine... Very helpfull!
So, which color you like?
Sculpting a face
That's right, that's what character artists do. Sure, at first glance it looks kind of creepy but after some time it looks really nice. Let's add some manly wrinkles : D
(G)old mine!
That's what we are all for! Shiny gold ! But first we have to dig it up! It's not easy task...
Good that we have some tools and equipment! Check previous devlogs to learn more about it ;)

This one gold mine is rather small but how do you like it? Looks fine i think? Tell us in comments! ;)

Keeping your gold mine clean and tidy is a important task, don't forget it ;)

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #11

Welcome to eleventh DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hello travelers!
Welcome back in Alaska!
Whoa! It's already more than 10 devlogs about Alaska Gold Fever!
I hope you like to read them ;)
i trying to show you what we are working on and some stuff from game development so you can appreciate our hard work :D

In this episode i can show you some timelapse of making a pickaxe, polygons to 3D model stuff and first ever GOLD MINE !
Cowboy in forest - now in full HD 4K!
Nothing special to say here - just admire a scenery of our favourite bandit in Alaskan snowy forest :)
Well a first version without textures looks especially snowy don't you think?
Look how many polygons are needed to make a coat!
First ever gold mine finally shown off!
Look at this picture. Looks like kind of mess up, huh? A picture drawn using only black pen or what is it?!
But wait, just add some textures and lighting... and... you get a first ever entrance to gold mine!

Sorry but more interior of this gold mine will be shown only in next devlog ;)
Here is only a sneak peak:
Pick a pickaxe!
Okay, now it's tome for the best: a timelapse of making a cool stylish pickaxe!
however... Steam only allows for small files to upload so i splitted a full recap to two separate GIF's.

First some modeling on "grey mass" and then adding colors and accessories. Full verion of this timelapse will be avialable later on our Youtube channel !
Check it out later ;)

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #10

Welcome to tenth DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hello travelers!
Welcome back in Alaska!

Today we gonna show you some buildings and also some concepts for different pickaxes. And some technical stuff about characters movement! Get ready!
Buildings - how it's made?
It's made from wood and stone ;)
And also some pixels! Of course first you have to drawn a concept for a building. Here you have some:
A bank - where you can take a good mortage on the cabin in woods and a saloon - most important building in every town ;)

Notice a little Johnny! He is our bandit character from game! He is just here to show you the scale and scope of building . Wanna know more about him? Check out previous devlog!

After approval you can add some color to your concept. It's not obligatory - a lot of devs don't need that but it's often looks cooler ;)

Next up is 3D modeling. Probably the hardest part. 3D graphic designer must be a great artist to make sure it's work looks good. Check out this random building:

So does it look good? Tell us in comments :)
Also have a look at some other assets from buildings used to "build" a structure.
Ladies and gentlemens!
A windows and doors! It's a must-have in every house ;)
Advanced characters movement
I wanna show you some more technical stuff. Our programmer and animator is working on some more advanced characters movement. One of it is this "vault skill" using by NPCs to... well vault over things like pile of woods in the forest. Take a look a it.
Don't worry about empty space it's just a test ground ;)
We also will be using this in our other games - especially for Ready for Riot game. Have seen it yet? Take a look! It's gonna be much different from Alaska but some technical things is gonna be a little similar ;)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1874980/Ready_for_Riot/
Pickaxe - from concept to 3D model
Gonna work in gold mine! So you need some tools like pickaxe. But normal pickaxe is too boring, gonna spice things up a little :) Check out this cool concept for skins!
Similary to making a building - First a concept, some colours, modeling in 3D and it's ready!
(easier said than done...) . This one have a working name "Steampunk Pickaxe"

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #9

Welcome to ninth DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hello travelers!
Welcome back in Alaska!

Today wanna show you one special character from game and some screenshots of night/day cycle!

Okay, first some technical stuff. Thats how this character looks "stripped" in graphic program. Looks kind of like it was in the notebook, eh? And of course obligatory "T-pose".

Our mister Bandit Number 1 in his grace! (Sometimes called just Johnny.)
Thats how our concept artist defined Johnny's hobbys:
"He enjoys walking at sunrise, raiding caravans, and drinking good whiskey with his saloon buddies"

He seems nice, okay ? In our game there you will need to survive in harsh Alaskan enviroment and remember: anything can kill you! Weather, cold, animals, plants and even people...
So we added some bandits who will roam an Alaskan snowy fields and sometimes will engage you!
Sometimes you can just scare them by using your trusty gun or just escape and avoid encounter.
Sure it adds some tension to this mininig/crafting game, eh?

Modeling persons is kind of hard, especially because they often go around. So you can have this in mind. Making stoic 3D object is far easier. Here you can see a progress of our Bandit Johnny.

Looks better.
After modeling, it's time for some textures and stuff. Ah, it also worth mentioning: hair is often very hard to make or they are very pain in the a... . Some developers often using special programs just to make a realistic looking and behawing hair (ex. hair in Tomb Raider 2013 from Crystal Dynamics studio)

I bet he is a guy who definetly stealed some candys from other children in kindergarden.
From concept art to fully rendered 3D model.
So our Johnny has come a long way to be that beautiful, doesn't he?
Alright time to show promised day/night cycle!
This little animation should show some good stuff.
I regret that Steam only allows media files up to 5 MB , it's looked better in 4K on my computer, believe me ;D

And also some screenshots. Static screenshots are kind of boring so we have choosen one best screenshot for day and one for night. Hope you liked it!

You won't believe how much time i spend compresing these screenshots :)
They must look good but also keep around 5 MB file size.

And now is time for some meme at the end of devlog ;) Will you sweep "to the right"?
