Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #78 - Farm life on Alaska

Welcome to a seventy-eight DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers! 👋

In this devlog, we want to give you a first sneak peek at something new and exciting: the farm that you’ll be able to own in Alaska Gold Fever.

Building Your Homestead

Yes, you read that right- amidst the snow, mountains, and gold, there’s also room for good old-fashioned farming life! 🌾

We’ve been hard at work designing the buildings you’ll use on your farm.
Cozy cabins and barns, and even a few quirky structures we can’t wait for you to discover.
Each one was crafted with care, and yes, sometimes a lot of trial, error.

More Than Snow and Gold

Wanna get rich on Alaska? Actually a lot of people get rich by gold fever but not by gold itself - just by selling equipment and food. Like farmers who had a lot of croops and sell them to hungry gold prospectors. Its a true historical fact!

Alaska isn’t just about harsh winters, rugged mountains, and hunting for gold. It’s about the everyday life of a farmer, the little joys,
Your farm will be a place to call your own, to grow, expand, and maybe even hiring some peasants?

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue building a slice of Alaskan life that’s as fun as it is challenging!

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #77 - Town Life & NPCs

Welcome to a seventy-seven DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

Today we’re taking you behind the scenes into the living, breathing town at the heart of Alaska Gold Fever. In this devlog, we’re talking more about NPCs – who they are, how we’re building them, and what roles they’ll play in your gold-fueled adventure.

Bringing the Gold Rush Town to Life

We didn’t want the town to just be a backdrop. Our goal is for every NPC to feel like a real person, not just a quest marker or vendor. Each has their own story, routines, and purpose in the world.

Meet some of the locals:

Banker, the shopkeeper, a drunkard, hunter, mechanic

How We Build NPCs

Each character goes through several stages of development:

-Backstory - We write a short background for each NPC (where they’re from, what they want, what they’re hiding).

-Gameplay role - What do they offer? Quests, services, hints?

-3D modeling & animation - We’re going for a stylized realism (low-poly with strong personality).

-Dialogue - Each NPC will have dynamic dialogue based on time of day, weather, your reputation, and world events.

🧭 What Can NPCs Do?

-Sell, repair, rent, and trade gear

-Offer side quests (e.g. “find my lost tools,” “pick up a package at the dock”)

-React to your actions – don't shoot in town!

-Unlock new town features – some NPCs help expand the settlement

-Add life and atmosphere – they have daily routines, interact with each other, and react to the world

🔁 Example: Daily NPC Routine

-Morning: opens the general store or works outside.

-Midday: working, going to bank/church.

-Evening: going back to home or saloon to drink.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #76 Building and Functions

Welcome to a seventy-six DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

Hey everyone! 👋
Welcome to another development update from Alaska Gold Fever - our survival/simulation game set during the legendary Gold Rush in the wilds of Alaska.

In this devlog, we’re focusing on three new structures we’ve recently added to the world: the Bank, the Shed and the Weapon Shop.
Here's how we built them in 3D and what roles they’ll play in the game!
🏦 Bank
🔧 3D Development:
We designed the bank as a classic wooden structure from the late 1800s – complete with a large signboard, a front porch, and reinforced doors. We took inspiration from historical photos of Dawson City during the gold rush.

Modeling was done in Blender, using a combination of custom meshes and PBR materials (weathered wood, metal details, dirty glass) to create that gritty frontier look.
🏦 Bank
🏗️ In-Game Functions:
-Safe deposit for storing your gold and cash – protects from theft or accidents.

-Loan system – take out loans to purchase better tools, land, or upgrades.

-Loan system can be usefull to prevent "softlocking" by players (when you lose all your gold and EQ)
🪵 Shed
🔧 3D Development:
This building was created as a modular structure - easy to adapt into different uses like stalls, small workshops, or repair stations. The core design is open, with wooden shelves, crates, and a handmade sales counter. The style is rough, functional, and fully in line with the DIY nature of frontier life.
🪵 Shed
🏗️ In-Game Functions:
-Buy/sell basic supplies – food, tools, machine parts, and fuel.

-Hide from snowing.

-Future upgrade paths: expanding the shed into a full-fledged store or outpost.
🔫 Weapon Shop
🔧 3D Development:
The weapon shop was built to match the rugged aesthetic of the game – think timber-framed exterior with reinforced windows and a secure interior for storing firearms and ammo. We placed special attention on lighting and interior space so players can inspect gear up close. Interior will shown later in future devlogs ;)
🔫 Weapon Shop
🏗️ In-Game Functions:
-Purchase weapons – rifles, pistols, shotguns (for defense against wildlife or hostile NPCs).

-Buy ammo and upgrades

-In the future: hunting licenses, gun customization bench, and rare weapon drops.
🎯 What's Next?
We’re currently integrating these buildings into the world map, along with NPCs and their dialogue systems. Stay tuned for upcoming devlogs !

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #75 Meet the Dockside Craftsman

Welcome to a seventy-five DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

Howdy, adventurers! Today we’re heading down to the docks - not for fish (although it does smell like it), but to introduce one of the town’s NPCs: the portside craftsman!

[/p]
Who is this guy?
[p]
He’s the kind of guy who can fix a broken sled, sharpen an axe, build a boat, and complain about all of it - simultaneously. A true jack-of-all-trades, master of grumbling.

[/p]
Docks?
[p]We started with concept art inspired by old-timey dockworkers, salty sea captains, and that one uncle who builds weird things in his garage. And are you asking about docks? Well there are small ones in the town: just some buildings near water (thats "docks", right?)

With friends

[/p]
The Workshop
[p]
Where the magic (and sawdust) happens!
We modeled his workshop right next to the docks - a crooked little shack that looks like it’s held together by stubbornness and sheer willpower. Not ready yet (like his 9 unfinished projects) but you can see it here.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #74 - Life in the Cabins

Welcome to a seventy-four DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hello, explorers and adventurers!

In today’s devlog for Alaska Gold Fever, we’re diving into the wooden cabins you’ll find scattered across the vast wilderness of 1890s Alaska.

🏚️ Building the Cabins

Creating authentic Alaskan log cabins was a key part of immersing players in the snowy atmosphere. We started by studying historical photographs and blueprints from the late 19th century.

Most cabins in the game are hand-built from simple logs, using simple tools - just like real prospectors and trappers would have used.

Each cabin tells a slightly different story: some are barely holding together, while others show signs of careful upkeep, hinting that were build by more experienced settlers.

We made sure cabins aren’t just background decoration. They’re part of the world. You can enter most of them, explore, and find useful supplies, lore, or people to talk to.
