Chronicles of Rodovia #10 - Druids and Arbalesters

Greetings, your Grace! 👑

Welcome to the Chronicles of Rodovia - a series designed to prepare you for ascension to the throne! 📖 Thanks to the following entries, you will learn how to manage your kingdom and your subjects, make crucial, even fateful decisions, and safeguard your reign from premature demise. In each subsequent post, we will take a closer look at a different gameplay element and explain the basic mechanics that govern the world of Crown of Greed, so be sure to follow them carefully.

Today, we're back with more of what you love the most... namely the heroes! 🤩 It's time to meet another pair of intrepid adventurers who (for a right gold fee, of course) will take on the quests you assign them. Though their skills, roles, and ways of life are very different, they can still come together to serve the glory of your kingdom.

Behold, rulers. The Druid and the have just arrived at the gates of your city.
Power of nature - Druids 🌿

Druids are mysterious guardians of nature, able to communicate with primal forces and use them to fight their enemies. Their arsenal of deadly skills includes elemental and nature magic and even animal control.

While Druids have many strengths, they excel as a ranged unit and struggle in close combat - luckily, their summoned forest companions step in to assist 🐻 This hero archetype is eager to venture out into the wilderness, beyond the confines of the city, and is reluctant to undertake attack missions.
Druid abilities ✨

When forced into battle, the Druid will not hesitate to call upon his most fearsome abilities. This servant of nature is, for example, able to fire a magical boulder that damages and stuns enemies. He can also summon a group of aggressive ravens to swarm and attack enemies on his behalf 🐦‍⬛

In terms of defensive abilities, Druids can summon a solid, thick shield of ice or call upon bears and wolves to aid them. Once their opponent realizes who they are dealing with and flees, Druids can bind them with magical roots.
The Tree of Elements 🌳

The Druids' quarters is one of the most unique structures in the entire world of Rodovia. Once you choose where you want to place it... your work is done! The Tree of Elements does not need builders, scaffolding and nails like other structures - it will take root on its own and start growing until it becomes a fully-fledged seat of guardians of the nature! 🌱

The same is true for repair - when the Tree of Elements is damaged, it will heal on its own. Your workers don't have to risk their lives to get close to a besieged building in order to repair it, which can be crucial later in the game.
Need to shoot something? Hire Arbalesters 🎯

Arbalester is an experienced shooter who has mastered the use of the powerful arbalest and other crossbows to perfection. His main advantage is huge firepower, which should be feared by even the most dreadful enemies. Arbalester may not be the fastest or the most durable unit, but in ranged combat he has no equal. Keep this in mind, especially when large beasts appear on your borders - they are the favorite target of this severe marksman.
Arbalester abilities ✨

As the most skilled marksmen in the realm, Arbalesters possess a vast array of abilities. Their primary attack is a devastating shot from an immense crossbow, but they have more than a few surprises up their sleeves. Examples? Of course! They can unleash fiery bolts to set enemies ablaze 🔥, fire piercing projectiles that damage multiple targets, or strike weak points to cause bleeding.

Arbalesters are also equipped with deadly grenades, ideal for dealing with large enemy groups. When faced with danger, they stand their ground and activate the "Fortress" skill, allowing them to fortify their position and rain down shots on approaching foes.
Shooter’s Workshop 🏹

Arbalesters spend their free time at Shooter's Workshop. Unlike the Druids, they are known as city and civilization types, and are rather reluctant to undertake reconnaissance missions. And while these extraordinary shooters are very intriguing and unique individuals, their headquarters seem quite ordinary... except for one detail.

Any uninvited guest can expect to be greeted by a precise shot from a mighty ballista mounted on the Shooter’s Workshop tower! 💀 That's right! The Arbalesters home is a weapon in itself. With the support of nearby watchtowers and their guards, they become an excellent means of defending your city.
Thank you, your Majesty!

We trust that the tenth installment of the Chronicles of Rodovia series has sparked your eagerness to seize the throne and guide your kingdom to prosperity and glory!

You can be sure that we will soon publish more interesting information and news about the game, just like the next parts of our Chronicles 😁 Stay hyped, stay tuned, and add Crown of Greed to your Steam wishlist. Thank you, Rulers!

Demo summary and a few words from the team 📜

Greetings, your Grace! 👑

The last few weeks have been a real rollercoaster for our entire team. Until the last moment before the release of the Crown of Greed Demo, we refined and improved the gameplay to make your adventure in the world of Rodovia as fun and immersive as possible.

We raced against time to get rid of the most frustrating bugs, balance the economy and combat system, improve NPC behavior, or add new cool features to the game, so that we are ready to take part in the Steam RTS festival. And now... we see that it was worth it 😃
A huge thank you to our community 💪

As usual, you have proven what a great community you are, everyone. We received so many words of support, useful feedback, great suggestions and reports that they almost overwhelmed us!

We spent long hours analyzing every single opinion you sent us, resulting in the first two Demo Hotfixes. What's more, we were extremely happy to see your reviews on Steam, thanks to which we managed to obtain the "very positive" rating 🤩

Seeing such great enthusiasm, you can be sure that this is not the end of our work on improving and developing the Crown of Greed project. With that in mind, let's talk about our plans for the future.
What's coming next? 🛠️

It's too early to promise anything for sure, but a few elements came up among your feedback most often, which indicated the direction we want to go.

➡️ First of all - more missions and a campaign. The world of Rodovia is a diverse, dangerous, but also beautiful land that has much to offer. We will invite you to explore (and conquer) all its corners!

➡️ Voice Acting - we realize that it is currently somewhat generic, and we will do our best to improve it.

➡️ UI and QOL improvements - thanks to your feedback, we know how much these elements affect the fun of the game. We will work hard to make it as clear and useful as possible.

➡️ Balance changes - strength of monsters, gaining experience by heroes, amount of taxes, HP of buildings, spawning rates and... and everything else will be further analyzed and refined.

➡️ Among your requests, there was often a question about resurrecting your favorite heroes and transferring them between scenarios. We will make it happen!

➡️ We are working on a few new mechanics and an innovative system which will further diversify the gameplay. We are currently exploring a few intriguing ideas, so that Crown of Greed will have even more to offer!

We could go on and on, and list even more changes, such as the deeper relations between heroes and the player, new kinds of monsters, spells and buildings, but we are sure you get the idea. The game will certainly evolve and expand, and we will discuss all the novelties in more detail in the near future.
For now - let's enjoy the Demo and try to beat it in the Nightmare mode 💀

Can you believe that some of you managed to do it? We're honestly surprised that you were able to beat the game on the hardest difficulty setting... which is another lesson for us. We will be sure to prepare even more challenges for you in the future, with even more deadly enemies and surprising events. Once again, thank you, everyone. We will speak to you soon!
Good luck in Rodovia, Rulers

The time has come, your Grace! 👑

We hope you’ve missed your days in the gloomy, harsh, and dangerous realm of Rodovia, dear Kings, as today its gates swing wide open once again. The release of our game's Demo marks another significant milestone in the development of our project, and we’re thrilled to share it with you today, coinciding with the launch of the Steam Real-Time Strategy Fest.

With the great enthusiasm and hope in our hearts, we invite you to join us in this epic adventure, and try to seize control over your loyal subjects and independent heroesDedicated Demo Steam Page »
The Crown of Greed Demo is now live 💥

Those of you who took part in our Playtest are certainly wondering what new things await you this time, however we will come back to this topic a little bit later. Let us start by welcoming the new players, who haven't played Crown of Greed before and don't really know what they can expect. Here are some tips to help you understand the rules you'll have to follow:
▶️ Economy
Upon entering the world of Rodovia, you’ll face the task of building your first foothold, which will provide your subjects with shelter and grant you priceless gold from taxes 🪙 Each building you have built, such as a Forge, Market, Inn and others will generate gold collected by the Tax Collector. Unless your Collector is torn to shreds by wolves, giant spiders, devils or other dangerous creatures, your treasury will be full.
▶️ Spendings
You can use the money earned from taxes, running trading posts and destroying enemy nests to expand your city and defend it with a system of defense towers. You can also build Hero habitats where you can recruit the bold adventurers and upgrade their abilities.
▶️ Heroes
Nothing speaks to the courage and conscience of heroes like shiny coins. You can't control them directly, but you can pay them to encourage them to perform various types of contracts, such as reconnaissance, defense of a selected area, or attack. With successful contracts, your heroes will gain experience and develop their skills.
▶️ Enemies
Your city is regularly attacked by various creatures. To prevent this, you must develop appropriate defense systems and deploy your heroes to destroy enemy-generating habitats. Be cautious, though, as enraged foes may launch large, coordinated attacks on your borders.
▶️ Player's actions
You, as a powerful Ruler, can also take part in battle using the spell system. You can also manage the power of a coin. It's up to you how much gold you offer your heroes for completing a given mission. Can you find the balance and make them obey you?
Differences between the Playest version and Demo ⚒️
If you have already had the opportunity to play Crown of Geed, this section will certainly interest you the most. Let's dive into the changes and novelties we have crafted for you in the Demo version, shall we?
