More questions answered! Q&A part 2

For those of you who might have missed it – we have coop!

It’s huge news, so let’s hear Big Boss talk about it once again.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We’ve collected your questions and already answered half of them in the previous post. And now, ready for MORE INFO? Let’s dive in! (Also psst, check the end of the post too)

Q: Can we get more voiceovers for NPCs?
A: As DDS2 has a much higher budget, yes, there will be more voiceovers and overall a much, much more alive environment overall.

Q: If I am not a host of the session, when I leave the game, what progress will I have saved?
A: You will save over your individual character progress as well as host-relative cartel progress. You'll be able to transfer character progress between cartels if the cartel owner allows it.

The exact specifics are still in development and tweaking tho.

Q: Can you create a server so if the original host is not playing, the other friend can play?
A: Yes, we are working on delivering a maximally flexible solution. We will give more details on that later.

Q: Will we have vehicles (like cars or boats)?
A: Yes, there are cars and boats in the game. It is not a fully fletched free driving system like GTA or so, but you'll need a vehicle to travel around the island as it is a significantly larger world than DDS1. The vehicles use roads, rivers and the open sea to travel between towns and villages.

You'll use them for far travel, smuggling items and dope or exfiling from locations when it gets hot. More on that later

Q: Are there any plans for expanding upon mixing/lab work? Anything from acquiring a product to processing it further than what exists in DDS1?
A: The lab and hideout system and drug logistics/production/processing are significantly improved in comparison to DDS1. You will have control over the complexity of your production, stimulate drug demand and obtain products and various chemicals and ingredients in various ways.

That includes multiple-step production, processing, buying, smuggling and stealing. You will be able to decide on the strategy, complexity and variety of your offer and choose from ways of acquiring products that fit your cartel’s financial expectations.

Q: Can you wholesale your drugs?
A: Yes, there will be mid and late-game wholesale buyers, but you also hire NPCs to your hierarchy to deal with the low-level distribution so you can focus on the higher scale of the entire operation.

Q: Will there be shops to buy stuff like in the first game or do you have to find it (bags, additives etc.)?
A: Yes there are multiple shops and NPCs to buy things from, but also many other ways of acquiring items and chemicals like looting, stealing, crafting and environment exploration.

Q: Can I cook meth in DDS2 by myself?
A: Yes, Walter. Yes, you can.

Q: Will there be a deep water culture?
A: We haven't planned DWC but might include it. There are a few ways for weed farming planned with different types of equipment and setups.

Q: Can you add more floors to the apartments? Can we use an elevator?
A: Yes, the apartments will have much more variety in size, floors as well as being indoor, outdoor or mixed. More on that later.

Q: Will there be a favela on the island? If yes, will you be able to take it over?
A: Yes, there are different types of towns and villages on the island, including favelas. Not sure what you mean by "take over" but you will surely grow your influence in the towns.

Q: What about bribing the police and making deals with other cartels?
A: There will be bribing of NPCs, including the police. There are also other criminal organisations in the game, but we'll share more about that later.

Q: Will there be Steam Workshop?
A: We are not planning workshop or mod support for now, but planning to include tools and settings to customise the gameplay to your liking.

Q: Will there be voiceovers in different languages?
A: The NPCs in the world will use different languages, but assuming you are asking about game localization - unfortunately not. Only UI + subtitles will have translations.

Is your curiosity satisfied for the moment, dealers? Let us know if you wanna know more!

Also! Do you know what’s happening this Sunday? It’s the 3-year anniversary of DDS1! We have some things coming to celebrate, so keep your eyes peeled for new posts. 👀

We have answers for you!

Just as we suspected, you had around a bazillion questions after the last video we released. So many, in fact, that we had to split this Q&A session in half. So, let’s see how Big Boss Rafal ™ answered them!

Question: Will there be guns or any other weapons?
Answer: As we stated earlier, there will be no guns and shooting mechanics in Drug Dealer Simulator. We are considering adding some specific and limited forms of self-defence and violence to DDS2, but this is not a promise. It's still WIP.

Q: What about bribing the police and making deals with other cartels?
A: There will be bribing of NPCs, including the police. There are also other criminal organisations in the game, but we'll share more on that later.

Q: Will police patrols and checks be as repetitive as in DDS1?
A: No, we are improving the system in a few ways as well as adding a few types of opponents instead of just one. We will share more info when we have them more polished.

Q: Can you decide on the hierarchy in your cartel?
A: Yes, you hire NPC's met and unlocked during gameplay. You either put them in the sales hierarchy to manage sales for you or assign them different tasks. You can also share responsibilities with other players in coop mode, obviously.

Q: Will there be cartel wars or cartel politics?
A: No "wars" per se, as we do not include combat in the game, but there will be a decent share of roleplay and politics in the gameplay and main storyline.

Q: Will we be able to beta test DDS2?
A: We are not sure about a beta, but it's possible. We do not have any specific on that yet. Stay tuned!

Q: Will there be a demo?
A: There is a demo in plans, but we don't have any specific to share yet. Stay tuned!

Q: Can we customize our character?
A: There will be two default story characters to choose from or a custom one to create. We will include a basic character creator. Also - the game has exchangeable clothes which change your looks as well as stats and inventory.

Q: Will we be able to choose our character in co-op or will we both be playing as Eddie?
A: You will be able to choose from two default story characters and a custom character of your own.

Q: Will the game be easier with more people joining in from coop or does it not affect it whatsoever?
A: It is somewhat easier on one hand, but with more players, we also scale up the gameplay. Every player will have their own requirements for items, tools, clothes, housing and consumables. This means more work, more cash, more questing and exploring. There is both cartel progression as well as individual progression.

Q: Is there a limit of people being able to join in?
A: There must be some limit, but we have not yet decided on the exact number. Many factors need to be considered when making this decision (hosting, balance, optimization and more). We will decide on that when we have the mechanical core, netcode and balance fully finished. The code base is designed to handle multiplier players, but we need a bit more work done to make the final decision.

Q: So traditionally in single player if you got arrested it would skip your night in jail, with co-op will the other player literally have to wait for their buddy who got caught to be set free while they are stuck in a jail cell?
A: We have w new system in place, without the time skip that fits both single-player and coop, but being honest - I just don't want to spoil it yet :) I think you'll really like it tho.

Q: Will you be able to play against each other in a PvP mode?
A: No, there will be no competitive PvP mode. The game is based around PvE cooperation and progressing your cartel together, with a common goal.

Q: If your partner gets arrested can you break them out or bribe the police to release them?
A: We have a new interesting system for handling arrests for both single player and coop, but we will share more details in the future :) It will be very unique from DDS1.

Part 2 coming soon, stay tuned!

COOP – CONFIRMED

Hi there, dealers! Ready for the beans?

And oh boy, do we have news for you.

We’ve seen some of you already picking up on clues, hints, and a stray tag too. And yes. Drug Dealer Simulator 2 features coop – CONFIRMED.

Here’s a word from the big boss Rafal. Let’s hear what he has to say.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

When planning Drug Dealer Simulator 2, we knew we needed something more, something that will be “higher level” so to speak. It was important to keep the heart and soul of the original gameplay loop, but at the same time improve and expand it on many levels. Having the new game architecture set up from the ground up, with all the gathered experience – we had the perfect opportunity to introduce coop to the project.

I believe that playing games in coop is the future. Experiencing everything the game has to offer on another level. In a way, you keep the immersive intimacy of a single-player game but live the adventure together with your friends. Running your own cartel with companions with the new, expanded world and features is in my opinion a real game-changer for the franchise.

Obviously, the player will be able to choose if he wants to dominate the Island alone in a single-player playthrough, start his journey with friends or maybe start solo and invite members on the way. We are working on delivering a flexible drop-in drop-out system. You set up your cartel, you’re the boss, others may join or leave when you feel like it, it’s all up to you.

Even now with a few core mechanics still in development, we are having lots of fun playtesting the game together. From what we have now and where this is going - it will be so much more than JUST a sequel…
