Eyes of Hellfire Update: Here's what we're thinking about this week

[h3]Hey, Early Access players![/h3][p]We’re kickstarting a new week here at Gambrinous after celebrating our Launch Party last Friday. It was a super night all around and really wonderful to celebrate the milestone of reaching Early Access (We even had themed cocktails!). [/p][p]This week we’re back at it, and having a mull over a few things as usual, thanks to your feedback. Keep it coming.[/p][p]==================================[/p][h3]Signalling![/h3][p]While we’re proponents of discovering things and puzzles on your own, there are definitely elements of actual gameplay that deserve stronger signalling to help the player understand why / how things are happening. Be it an explanation as to why you’ve suddenly appeared in another room after getting hit by an enemy, or trying to explain that an item is more powerful/rewarding than the one you have in hand. We’re on it.[/p][p]==================================[/p][h3]Settings[/h3][p]Currently, we have basic settings in place, which we prioritised for the Early Access launch, but we intend to expand on them. We are also planning accessibility consultations as we continue to build our game. While we don’t have the scope to implement everything, it’s still something we’re conscious of.[/p][p]==================================[/p][h3]Some nice reviews this week:[/h3][p]“As an avid tabletop gamer who has played many of the games that inspired this one, I can see the vision. I honestly adore the vision. It is attempting to do something very unique, and I am excited to see where it goes.”[/p][p]“Absolutely love this game. They nailed the board game style, mirroring the style of Mansions of Madness and Betrayal at House on the Hill. It's intense, action-packed at times, and has a cool way to allow your team to figure out next steps. The atmosphere is creepy and sets the mood. Few good scares in it too. Build 0.1.2025.9.11 patch notes

  • Fixes for a number of soft locks in the host table. The Host really didn't want you taking his cards!
  • Fixed a duplicate wine bottle in the wine rack puzzle screen. There was a 1 in 20 chance the puzzle was unsolvable
  • Removed a leftover wine bottle quest item that had no use in the game. Sorry AndradaCat from Discord!
  • Fixed objectives not advancing after placing the paints
  • A couple of fixes for stuck Monsters/Players during fights
  • Fixed Monsters not always exhausting after an Attack
  • Fixed Masterpiece texture stretching
  • Fixed Shrouds/Living Paintings not patrolling
  • Rebalanced XP gains and requirements. Level 2 will be a breeze!
  • Fixed objectives not cleaning up after previous session
  • Fixed not being able to return to main menu after the ruins transition
  • Fixed not being recognised as having taken an offer after the revenge offer
  • Prevent dropping items/cards in the tutorial, as it can break the scripted tutorial flow
  • Typos and wording edits
  • Temporarily disabled music during Masterpiece fight


Known Issues:
  1. Sometimes you can get a "lobby not found" message when attempting to join a lobby with a code. A workaround for now is to join the game from a steam invite while you are in the create/join screen.
  2. XP gain in the end game summary screen does not always reflect the actual XP gained in some cases
  3. Sometimes you can get stuck moving between sections if using keyboard. Clicking in the destination section should get you unstuck. We are continuing to investigate

Localisation, Boss Fights and Curses: Here's what we're thinking about

[p]Thanks so much for all the love on our previous posts, where we reintroduced ourselves and for all the feedback you’ve been giving us so far. [/p][p]Here are some things that you’ve been talking about:[/p][h3]Localisation! [/h3][p]These are planned for Early Access and we’re already spec'ing this out behind the scenes. As you can imagine, there are some systems we need to get rocking on before the translation becomes available - and testing too - so it’s not just a simple task![/p][p]We’re excited though to hear what you think when the time comes. Let us know what languages you’d love to see.[/p][p]==============================================[/p][h3]The Eyes of Hellfire ‘curse’ [/h3][p]We’re thinking about this one for sure. All of our curses in-game are quite distinctive, and this one is a bit trickier to portray. But in a nutshell, whoever has the ‘Eyes’ must keep extra vigilant throughout the game and see what other players are up to. There are bluffing elements too, and this is where our proximity chat shines where players can try to get others to reveal what curses they are doing accidentally. [/p][p]Has a player made a comment about completing their curse? [/p][p]What were they doing? [/p][p]Have you noticed them stealing a bit TOO much? [/p][p]Or getting wounded far too often? [/p][p]Hmmm suspicious… [/p][p]We’re really thinking more about how we present curses and there are lots of ideas swirling around![/p][p]==============================================[/p][h3]Save States[/h3][p]Yes! We want them, you want them. Rest assured, they're on the way. Take a look at our roadmap here.[/p][p]==============================================[/p][h3]The Big Boss[/h3][p]We’ve been having some mixed feelings about the main boss fight. Sometimes it’s too easy, sometimes it’s very satisfying (with the right build) and sometimes it’s just annoying and too hard. But we need fresh eyes - We want to improve it and to do that we want to hear from you. What do you like about it? What don’t you like about it? Let us know. We’re all ears. Build 0.1.2025.9.5 hotfix notes

A small hotfix patch to fix a couple of issues

  • Fix for error notices after starting a second game in the same session (including tutorial)
  • Fix for seals still being clickable in some instances after already picking a seal in the Host's Table

Build 0.1.2025.9.3 patch notes

Here's the latest patch, so don't forget to update your builds!

  • Seals actively being used in the host table are no longer stealable
  • Mini seal inventory in host table now updates live, so you can see when someone takes a seal out of your pockets. Keep your eyes peeled.
  • Fixed hangs in host table if the pool of available cards for a seal has been exhausted!
  • Fixed a crash when a player joins from a steam invite while not in the join lobby screen (still cannot join the game this way yet though!)
  • Fixed not being able to discard cards for Vigour if previously exited the tutorial early
  • Fixed issues with not being able to see some players after rejoining a game
  • Fixed one instance of getting stuck when moving sections, allowing you to use mouse to move
  • More interaction detail images
  • More sounds added
  • And lots more...
