What does the Shifting Lodge mean?

[p]Today we want to share a bit more about what is meant by the Shifting Lodge. This update is a direct result of feedback from Early Access players calling for more variety in their playthroughs. [/p][p]While future updates to the game will have completely new environments, we're also making more immediate alterations to the Lodge that will change each time you play with your friends. [/p][p]Variability already exists in Eyes of Hellfire from the Curses you start with, the characters you select, and the party you play with, but we all want MORE. If you think you already know the layout of our Hellfire Club, think again, new subjects![/p][p][/p][p]Every time you start a scenario, the walls of the lodge will be shuffled, so room layouts and interactables are not always the same. This means you'll have to change your strategy for navigating with, or without, your companions. [/p][p]It also results in alternate strategies for how you use your cards, as well as the implementation of the new Curses (more on those to come).[/p][p]Along with the literal shifting of the Lodge, there will be a new character, new Curses, a new game mode, and more. So for returning and new players alike, this update will make the Lodge feel fresh each time you play. [/p][p]We can't wait for you to experience the Shifting Lodge update. Stay tuned for more information to come, and be sure to check out our last teaser post for a few additional hints.[/p]

Inching Closer to our Spooky Drop: Here's what's on our minds right now

[p]Hey Early Access players - did you see our spooky news last week? TL;DR: We have a thrilling new update coming THIS HALLOWEEN called the Shifting Lodge Update. But if you do want to read the teaser in full (which we recommend), you can here.[/p][p]A reminder about this mega update: because we've switched things up quite significantly and there are many changes in-game, your current game save states will not be compatible with the new version.[/p][p]So if you want to play the game as is for all those memories of tripping Patrick and relish in what certain things used to look like, get your games in soon because once we update… well… you’ll see! [/p][p]We’ve been thinking about all sorts of things, and being a small team in Ireland, we have different levels of priority and so our focus right now is fine-tuning our upcoming big drop. We're EXCITED and we hope you are too.[/p]
By the way, here’s a reminder of who’s who on our core team at Gambrinous!
• [p]Colm Larkin - Game Director[/p]
 • [p]Fred Mangan - Art Director[/p]
 • [p]Owen Canavan - Lead Programmer[/p]
 • [p]Andrew Hynes - Senior Programmer[/p]
 • [p]Angelo Nikolaou - Lead Game Designer[/p]
 • [p]Len Cunningham - Lead Writer and Narrative Designer[/p]
 • [p]Gary Keane - Composer and Sound Designer[/p]
 • [p]Mario Sena - 3D Artist and Animator[/p]
 • [p]And me, (Úna-Minh Kavanagh), Lead Producer![/p]
[p]What are you most looking forward to in our new update? Let us know![/p]
Here are some nice things you’ve been saying:
[p]“Very cool game, the gameplay is super fun. The friend's pass is a real plus for the value/price ratio. For now, there is just 1 level, but more is coming! I was already a fan of Guild of Dungeoneering, through which I discover this game. Eyes of Hellfire is completely different but the quality remains very high.”[/p][p]“Super fun game and excited for more content. This spooky game comes in with fresh ideas, cool puzzles, and increasing danger as time goes on. Plus, a lil bit of sabotage never hurt anyone... too badly. Probably.”[/p][p]We’ve gotten all sorts of great feedback from players, and we always have them on our topics of discussion. We also do appreciate all the random and very specific lore you've been coming up about Patrick by the way hehe.[/p][p]Thanks again for all the support! It’s much easier for us to work with you to track bugs through our Discord, rather than the Steam discussion page, because you can send us player logs and other vital information that way. We're here to help![/p]
One last thing:
[p]If you would consider giving us a positive review for our Early Access game, we'd love that too! We're working hard and it means a lot to us to hear what you love and helps us to keep going.[/p][p]Onwards and upwards.[/p][p]~ Úna-Minh[/p]

[p]We’ll have a full breakdown soon of exactly what’s going into this terrific new drop this Halloween, but trust us, you will want to keep an eye out for our posts and connect with us on Discord. [/p][p][/p][p]Do what thou wilt…[/p]

Movement and Challenging Encounters: Here's what's on our minds

[p]Hello there, Early Access players! Spooky season is upon us and we’re hard at work on some terrifying and thrilling updates for you all. The Halloween season is on our minds. By the way, we’re an Irish studio and did you know Halloween is very much an Irish festival? More on that down the line...[/p][p]As for Eye of Hellfire updates, keep your eyes peeled, you won’t want to miss out this spooky season. [/p][p]Here’s what we’re thinking about this week:[/p]
Getting from A to B
[p]Movement is something we’re continuing to mull over in-game. Here at Gambrinous, we're heavily influenced by board games and card games (all our previous games are), and we love trying out those types of mechanics in our works. We love the idea of planning strategic movement, though we totally understand how it can be hard when you’re moving between sections while simultaneously trying to escape monsters. [/p]
 • [p]Do you prefer clicking over dragging?[/p]
 • [p]Do you prefer larger sections?[/p]
 • [p]Do you plan your cards in advance?[/p]
 • [p]What would you love to see? [/p]
[p]Let us know. While we have a core vision for our game, we always love hearing suggestions and constructive feedback.[/p]
Combat (and waiting)
[p]We’ve gotten feedback about when you’re engaged in combat and if you don’t have anything left to do, i.e. all cards gone, no vigour left, can’t escape, it can be quite a wait to get the enemies to hit you. [/p][p]We agree! There is a lull and waiting around and twiddling your thumbs is not a great experience, especially when your friends may not be as quick to end their turn. We’re playing around with ideas e.g. speeding up timers so that you can decide to just take a hit when things like this happen. What do you think? What would you like to see?[/p]
Challenging encounters (a hint!)

Heads up: Don’t read this if you don’t want to hear about our mini-boss enemy!
[p]We’ve been watching lots of folks streaming (thank you!) and tackling the Ballerina! [/p][p]We’ve loved seeing your reactions to her creepily making her way out of the fresco and into the fight space and it’s been very cool to watch your differences in playstyles.[/p][p]Some teams breeze through, and some folks don't. If you’re struggling, one thing to bear in mind is if you trigger the ballerina on your own, then that more than likely will be more challenging for you. Also, she does dodge (not everything but you might lose out if you throw all your fight in)! So you need to think about what else you can do in her combat screen.[/p][p]Most players we've seen trigger her fight with at least 2 players in the room. In fact, we originally had her health a bit lower than what it is (it scales now depending on how many players are in game), and it was proving rather too easy for players![/p]
And here are some lovely things you’ve been saying this week!
[p]“We kept hitting each other and losing our minds. 10/10”[/p][p]“This was such a fun game to play with friends and it's honestly so rare to find games with free friends passes! If you are looking for a fun game to spend an evening, get it you definitely won't regret it”.[/p][p]“If you like Arkham Horror Card Game, this game is a close digital clone and has great art style and world building. They say more content is coming and if so it's a sold buy” (Yes! More content is coming!!)[/p][p]Thanks again for joining us on our Early Access journey![/p][p]We will continue to squash those bugs but in the meantime, join us on Discord. We’re very active there and we’re listening![/p][p]~ Úna-Minh[/p]

Build 0.1.2025.10.2 hotfix patch notes
