Next Fest Demo Extension + Extra Content Update

Hello everyone! Next Fest is over but I'm extending the demo for a week until Oct 23. And as a special thanks to those of you who enjoyed it despite the jank and bugs, I've added some extra content for you. New version is 0.2.28 and it is available now.

(If you are wondering why not just leave the demo up, it's because I find the quality unacceptable. And content makers will make videos using this. When the game is in better shape closer to release, I will upload a permanent demo up.)

New Stuff
✊ New mission "Break Free." Instead of being rescued, the prisoners break out by themselves and use their FISTS to overpower the guards.
😡 New mission "Outpost Defend." As Capital, you're defending the outpost against worker terrorists. This one is VERY HARD and intended for those who have completed everything else in the demo.

Balance
🔰 Cost to escape lowered from 4 AP -> 2 AP. I'm still not happy with this design so this is just a temporary tweak until I figure out how to make escape more interesting and tactical. (Phenomenal View)
😨 Fearless Trait (unit cannot be Suppressed) will not protect from flashbangs. (Abloobloo)
🛩️All units will run from airstrikes a little earlier, increasing chance of survival. As always, Suppress them to pin them in place.

QoL
🎨 Suppression wheel colors tweaked: turns red when Suppression below 100%, purple when below 200%, and black when below 300%. (therewolfmb)
✨ Various UX improvements (Sparalem, Kirrim, SwfDelicious)

Bug Fixes
🐛 Fixed bug that sometimes caused grenades to not explode. (Beaglerush, James)
🐛 Fixed bug where Mission 2 said you failed even if you successfully stole the dropship. (Agent O.Y, Chernobog, Braylord)
🐛 Fixed bug that displayed chance-to-hit behind other UI elements. (Maltavius)
🐛 Fixed bug that caused enemies to flee too quickly (Unoriginal_NameYT)

Steam Next Fest Patch + Mini Tutorial Video

Hi everyone, I just updated the demo with a couple of new things, difficulty rebalancing and some QoL. You can read full patch notes below.

Also I know it's not a substitute for a proper tutorial (which is coming!) but for now I made a little video explaining the most important mechanic in the game: suppression. I hope it helps you make make sense of the demo.

Patch Notes - Version 0.2.26

New Stuff
🏃Escaping the battlefield now works differently. When you are at the edge of the map, you can spend AP to make progress toward fleeing. After spending 4 AP, you can then escape. Ending the turn on anything but an edge tile will reset your progress.
🛬You can now use airstrikes on Forlorn Hope mission. (therewolfmb)

Balance
🥪Jailbreak Express is now a little easier as reinforcements only come from one side, instead of sandwiching you.
🫡Outpost Assault is now harder with two additional reinforcement waves in the later stages of the battle.
🤹‍♂️Caliver suppression reduced by half. (PressureLine, therewolfmb)
🧀Removed cheesing the aim cone. Now the size of the cone doesn't change over distance. (nyanarchist, CaptKufy777, therewolfmb)

QoL
🔍Icons above units now scale with zoom. (SwfDelicious, Kirrim)
⌨️Added keybind to remove UI from the screen when taking screenshots and thumbnails. (JDee)

🎥Camera will now follow thrown enemy grenades. (arth)

Bugs
🐛Fixed major bug where moving units simultaneously would sometimes eat your AP without doing anything. (Warclops)
🐛Fixed bug only affecting gigachads: if you killed everyone instead of running away on Jailbreak Express, game will count it as a win. (Tiruin, Drumheller)
🐛Fixed bug preventing Hunter trait from working with melee. (PressureLine)
🐛Fixed various other bugs.

Mars Tactics will be participating in Next Fest!

In this demo specifically for Next Fest, you can try three exclusive new scenarios – Jail Break, Jet Set, and Outpost Assault – along with key improvements across the game, including new weather effects, smoother graphics, and improved suppression systems. Next Fest runs from October 9 - 16.

In Mars Tactics, the Red Planet is entirely at war. Lead Capital's corporate army or Labor's worker revolutionaries and wage war across a vast strategic map, then assume direct control in turn-based tactical battles featuring artillery, vehicles, and fully destructible environments.
