Please join us for a new Live Dev Update on Retro Gadgets Discord Server, on April 8th at 6:00 pm CEST / 12.00 pm EDT / 9.00 am PDT! Make sure you don't miss it and get ready to join our Q&A session!

Community Game Jam: "Firsts in history"

We are very proud to bring you news about an awesome community-led event:

The Retro Gadgets Game Jam Server is hosting their first big game jam and would very much like you to join them for this gadget creation contest!
QuickHow does it work?
Follow the theme: "Firsts in history" and create a gadget to celebrate the pioneering times when people have produced the first of something. This can be anything from the first game programmed, to the first person into space.

You can submit your work on the game jam server until July the 8th, every submitted gadget during the event will be graded on four categories:

Creativity
This is subjective to the judges, but it will be how original your gadget is, and how well it stretches the theme. Graded out of ten.
Functionality
This is how well every part of the device works together, from the input of buttons, to the reading of a display. Graded out of ten.
Aesthetics
This will be exactly as it sounds, how good every part of the gadget looks. Good use of colour, and even sound, will help to get points in this category. Graded out of five.
Experience
This category will be based on how intuitive and easy the use of the gadget is. Graded out of five.

You will find detailed information about the contest on the RG Game Jams server.
Have fun and good luck, Gadgeteers!
REMINDER: This is an unofficial, community-led, game jam organized by the RG Game Jams Discord Community. Get in touch with the organizers on the RG Game Jams server for more info.

Introducing the "Retro Gadgets Game Libraries"
You can now quickly import to you gadgets a set of selected libraries to simplify your development adventures!

The first library is the RG Game Library.

We specifically created this lib to help you build games inside our game!
RG Game includes tools for:
:art: Sprite motion and animations - so you can learn how to implement simple animations in your projects
:dart: Simple collisions for sprites (circle and box shapes) - that you can check out with the "Debug" button
:gear: Easing library to smooth out your gadgets

But there are more libs for you to use! This update also includes two libraries:
json.lua
[https://github.com/rxi/json.lua]
A lightweight JSON library for Lua
xml2lua
[https://github.com/manoelcampos/xml2lua]
Additional Highlights:
- :tools: The *"Import Library"* feature will enable us to add more libraries in the future.
