📝 (Hotfix) UI improvements - EA 2025.02.12 📝

Hey settlers 👋

We've rolled out a hotfix to polish up some UI elements and streamline your gameplay experience. Check out what's been tweaked:

  • The toggle button for the full construction view now starts correctly on small monitors.
  • Added missing items to the construction UI’s generation procedure info.
  • Item lists are now neatly sorted.
  • You can now use work time tasks in scenario reallocations even without a community centre.
  • Fixed a missing translation in the animal catch AI description.
  • Updated the streamer-friendly music list due to a musician’s policy change on YouTube.
  • The world load/save box has been enlarged to support longer save game names.
  • Fixed an issue where existing save games couldn’t be manually overridden.
  • Improved the button theme for dragged buttons, making text more visible.
  • Reduced the grass requirement for building huts.

📝 UI Improvements, Additional Mod Support & Bug Fixes - EA 15.01.2025 📝

We’ve been busy polishing your experience with better UI, more flexibility for modders, and crucial bug fixes. Check out what’s new below!

Patch Notes 2024.12.17:

Tooltip & Mod Support:
  • Added extended tooltip functionality for ‘accept task’ prompts.
  • Modders can now customize button text for those prompts.


Apprenticeship Adjustments:
  • If ‘Train Children’ is enabled at the guild house, only children ages 6–9 will start an apprenticeship (duration still 4+ years).
  • This prevents older kids from getting locked into an apprenticeship until well past 16.
  • If both ‘Train Children’ and ‘Train Adults’ are enabled, everyone can start as before.


UI Enhancements:
  • Retired individuals, apprentices, and babies are now clearly marked in the UI.
  • Workload info is more transparent for these special statuses.


Additional Fixes & Improvements:
  • Fixed an incorrect tile on the frozen island map.
  • Made titles, text, and descriptions optional for CheckDay entries in scenarios.
  • Improved house locking mechanics and the eviction system for more consistent behavior.
  • Resolved rare crashes related to job scheduling, working hour inspections, and faction class counts.
  • Fixed an issue where a dead animal could spread sickness if thrown into the barn.

It’s time to raise your sails and embark on an exciting new journey! 🌟 The Risenna Scenario is here, inviting you to explore distant islands and establish trade relations with a faraway kingdom.🗺️ Plus, we’ve added chickens to your settlement — because what’s a village without a few feathered friends? 🐔

This update also brings improved visuals, bug fixes, and balance changes to keep your settlement thriving.

⚓ New Scenario:
The Risenna Scenario lets you explore new islands and build trade routes across the seas.

🐔 Chickens Arrive:
Welcome chickens to your settlement and enjoy a new source of eggs and meat.



🎨 Improved Visuals: Enhanced the Kerzoven story intro and Eliane of Kerzoven visuals.

  • Faction animals that can’t find a path to their home now display a local warning instead of a map-wide one.
  • Balanced the tailor storage upgrade cost from 10 planks down to 5 per year.
  • Improved the detail text in the Journal quest UI for multiple subtasks.
UI Fixes & Improvements:
  • The wealth of extinct/joined factions now correctly shows 0 in the UI.
  • Fixed an issue where recently deceased people were briefly counted as unemployed in the faction UI.
  • Improved Kerzoven story intro visuals and Eliane of Kerzoven visuals.
Modding Support:
  • Added the ability to get items from anywhere in the faction if a quest is marked accordingly.
  • Added TaskTitleMark for quest accept prompts.
  • Added support for timed accept quests and long accept prompt question texts.

📝 Fixes and File Access Compatibility - EA 2024.12.04 📝

Hey settlers👋 ,
We have made some things clearer in the education system and fixed some rare bugs.

We also noticed that some players did not have read or write permission in the games directory. We now detect this and move the configuration files to the local account's application data directory.
For most people, nothing will change and the file access is the same as before, except for one thing: unfortunately, due to the way the engine works, we can not use two custom engine configuration paths and we cannot move the file manually.
This will reset your engine settings to the default configuration (you keep your keybinds or other settings). You either can reconfigure your settings in the game or manually move the settings.cfg from the game directory to “user\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Of Life and Land”.

[h3]Patch notes:[/h3]
  • Added support to run the game when installed in unexpected locations with insufficient read and write permissions.
  • Improved space in the storage UI.
  • The production UI can now show all items stored in the inventory.
  • The Community Centre will now push unneeded items to the output at least once a day.
  • If an adult is still in training, their work requirements will now count as inherited.
  • Fixed a problem where dragging the speed slider while using the scroll wheel at the same time could cause the game to crash.
  • Fixed a potential edge case where the location of an agent was already being read by another thread while the agent was not fully initialised, causing the dirt influence to be assigned to the wrong location.
  • Added additional information when assigning a static object to an already assigned cell.
  • Fixed a potential issue where a visual scene node could not handle being deleted and initialised by different threads at the same time.
  • Improved the layout of quests in the journal UI.

📝 AI Improvements & Balancing Update - EA 2024.11.25 📝

Hey settlers, 👋

The game has become easier and easier with the many new features in the updates. The last education update in particular brought efficiency improvements as well as features that improved the management of the settlement. Since we are currently improving the AI in specific areas thanks to your feedback, it is a good time to bring the level of difficulty towards the right direction in a first round. 🤗

Let us know how it feels and what is still too easy or too hard.
If you want to play with the old AI and difficulty level, you can switch to the “previous” branch on Steam to play on the old patch. ☺️

  • Humans and animals are now more intelligent when choosing sleeping spots if they lack homes.
  • People wake up if too cold and seek a warmer place.


Education System
  • Balanced education bonuses as some were too strong.
  • Apprenticeships extended from 1.5 to 2 years.
  • Apprentices pause education when moved to maps without education policies.


Production Improvements
  • Improved synchronization for farms, foresters, gatherers, and wineries.
  • Balanced crafting requirements across all production sites.


Other Changes
  • Increased pregnancy age limit from 36 to 38.
  • Humans now start feeling “old” at 43 instead of 40.
  • Tailor gets more storage upgrades.
  • Marketplace now refunds materials when deconstructed.
  • Slightly reduced late-game clothing strength.


Bug Fixes & UX
  • Fixed navigation issues for naval reallocation tasks.
  • Butcher shop now shows preserved meat output.
  • Improved Accept/Reject UI prompts.
