Get the boy.vox file and load the contents
In the world of Teravit, you can freely explore using the avatars you create with MagicaVoxel.

This time, we will be sharing the voxel data for “Boy” (boy.vox), Crimrose (crimrose.vox) from CosmicBreak and Lady Shizuka (shizukagozen.vox) from Onigiri.
First, download the data you are interested in, and load the data in MagicaVoxel.
* This article will show you how to create your own original character using “boy.vox”.

Once the download is complete, you can load it into MagicaVoxel by selecting “Download” from the folder icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

When the “Boy” avatar appears on the screen as shown in the image below, loading is complete.
Let’s create an original character
There are a few things to keep in mind when using MagicaVoxel to create a character for the Teravit. For example, the “Boy” consists of the following components.

・body0 : Body + Two Hands

・body1 : Two arms + Two legs

・face0 : Face (Normal)

・face1 : Face (Eyes closed, Sleeping)

・face2 : Face (Happy)

・face3 : Face (Damage, Death)

All of these components are body parts that move independently of each other.
If you create an original character from scratch in MagicaVoxel and want it to appear in Teravit, be careful to create it in separate layers as described above.

* We are currently making adjustments to “face2 : Face (Happy)” with the goal of displaying various emotions on avatars for the official release. Please note that the changes made will not be applied to the avatar in-game.
Create your own character by painting it different colors
MagicaVoxel has two types of screens; the Modeling Screen, where you can create three-dimensional objects using voxels, and the World Screen, where you can freely move and place voxel objects in 3D space.

Modeling Screen

World Screen

Click the “▲ ” (Triangle) button in the upper right corner to switch between the “Modeling Screen” and the “World Screen”. You can also switch between them by pressing the “Tab” key.

Firstly, select your character’s face [face0 : Face (Normal)] in the “World Screen” by left-clicking on it, and then click on the “▲” (Triangle) in the upper right corner or press the “Tab” key to switch to the “Modeling Screen”.

When you switch to the Modeling Screen, only the selected area (layer) will be highlighted, so you will be able to repaint the voxels or add voxels, as shown in the image below.
Let’s make colors
In MagicaVoxel, you can use the color palette on the left to select colors, but currently only shows the colors used by boy.vox.
If you want to use a new color, you can do that by creating your own color.

1. To create a color, select one of the palettes in the color palette.

2. With the palette selected, select “▼Color” under the color palette to see the colors labeled “H: S: V:”.

3. You can add colors to the palette by adjusting each of the “H: S: V:” to match the color you want to create.

[POINT]
The number under HSV is the RGB value (A way to represent colors consisting of the three primary colors of light). You can also create a new color by changing the value here. Here we have created a yellow color by entering the RGB value of “255 255 0”.

How to paint
Once you’ve added the colors you want to use to the color palette, it’s time to create your own original character by actually repainting the boy.

1. With the color you want to use selected from the color palette, select “Paint” from the “Brush Tools” on the right side, which you will use to apply the color.

2. By clicking on “Boy“ (Object) while it is selected, you can paint it with the selected color, and draw any pattern or picture you want.

[POINT #1]
Using the functions in the Brush Tool, you can select the same area as the color of the selected voxel, or fill the selected voxel with the color selected in the color palette.

Useful Tools (Some)

You can select the same area as the color of the selected voxel.

The selected voxel can be filled with the color selected in the color palette.

[POINT #2]
If you click on a voxel while holding down the “Alt” key, you can extract the palette of the selected color. This is a useful feature to reconfirm which colors were used.

3. When you have finished coloring, go back to the “World Screen” and select another layer by left-clicking on it. Switch to the “Modeling Screen” and create your original character by repainting the colors and patterns just as you did for “face0: Face (Normal)”.

[POINT]
By using the “Layer function” on the left side of the “World Screen”, you can change the character’s facial expression (face).

The ● to the left of the number indicates the currently displayed layer, which can be toggled visible or invisible by clicking on it.

Layer1 : face1 - Face (Eyes closed, Sleeping)

Layer2 : face2 - Face (Happy)

Layer3 : face3 - Face (Damage, Death)

4. When you have finished painting everything, your original character is complete.

After completing your original character, don’t forget to save it.

[POINT]
To save your work, press “Ctrl” + “S” (or “Cmd” + “S” on a Mac).
When you save the file, a file save dialog will appear, so don’t forget to save it in the vox folder in the same folder as the MagicaVoxel application with a file name of your choice.
Conclusion
This concludes how you can create an original character using MagicaVoxel. The characters you create can be used to freely explore the world of Teravit.

To make them appear in Teravit, select "Settings" from the title screen, go to "Skin" and use "Upload vox data" to load the .vox file you saved. Finally press "Save settings" to apply.

Developer's Blog #2

Hello everyone! Thank you very much for following us!
As you can see, Teravit is a game with a very unique first impression, so we were worried whether it would be received well, but we’re really glad to see the responses we’ve received and will continue to make improvements!

Now then, let’s move on to the introduction of Teravit’s voxel art which we previewed last time.
I’m sure everyone is familiar with Minecraft, which we can consider the pioneer of voxel art games that brought about it’s popularity among the general public. With that in mind, we will be showing you the difference between Teravit and Minecraft’s voxel art.
The Minecraft voxel appears as a 1㎥ cube that is represented by a simple polygon model with a 2D texture such as a cube with a 2D texture in the style of a dot photo.
Teravit uses voxels which are 1/4 of the size at 25㎤, with each voxel assigned a 2x2x2 3D textured color pattern.
You can see the distinct differences in this illustration. (Left is Minecraft, Right is Teravit)

Doesn’t it look completely different? The details of the Teravit voxel can be seen much more clearly. The reason why Minecraft and other titles do not implement such detail is because the heavy load that is required. If 1 block is equal to 1 voxel in Minecraft, then 1 block in Teravit which contains 64 voxels with super high density will require 64 times the computing power from the memory and CPU.
Teravit has resolved this issue through determined optimization.
As a result, we were able to draw all the objects in the stage as pure voxel models. This is what makes Teravit’s voxel art completely distinct from other sandbox games.

Just like the illustration below, the patterns are completely formed by voxels and placed on the ground or the walls. It feels just like the map chips in classic RPG titles.
(* The voxel models were completely designed using the voxel modeling software MagicaVoxel.)

The Teravit block shape (Cubic) can also be manipulated to the voxel model shape of your liking and placed down.

You can even make gigantic objects such as a ship using the voxel models.

Now, the expressiveness of Teravit’s voxels is not only in their detail.
Teravit’s voxel are defined not only by their color, but also by the material quality. In addition to wood, stone, metal, and others, swaying voxels like grass, glowing voxels like lamps, rippling transparent ones like water, flames, water splashes, and even flowers are arranged as voxels.
Since it is difficulty to illustrate this using an image, let’s take a look at this video. In this video, we placed blocks at random on the screen, but we hope you can get a feel for the material.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

* As a side note, the tool used in this video is called the World Editor. This is an in-house tool used in Teravit’s development, but we are planning to release it to the public in some form.

This concludes all the features and framework related Teravit’s voxel art.

In recent years, major games have been released with amazing technical capabilities and development scales, and while Teravit is not a title which can be considered to be different in direction, the unique and difficult to replicate system will provide users with an experience and surprise that cannot be experienced in major titles, so stay tuned!

The concepts explained in this entry may be difficult to understand, so we would like to talk about something simple and introduce the cute voxel characters that appear in Teravit for our next blog entry!

Developer's Blog #1

Hello everyone! In this blog, we will be introducing Teravit through the eyes of the developers to provide insight on the in-game system and contents, how it is created, and other interesting details about the game.

Teravit is a brand new multiplayer open-world RPG released by CyberStep. After 3 years in development, Global alpha testing will begin in October 12th, 2021. The development team continues to work on the vast amount of development items for testing, and are working together to further improve the quality of the game.

While Teravit can be classified as a sandbox game in the same genre as titles such as Minecraft, a major difference is the detailed and beautiful presentation of the vast landscapes that can be found in the world.
This is because of the voxel engine which we’ve invested a majority of our time to develop. We’ll go into more detail about that later, but for now, we would like to show you what kind of sceneries you can find in the world of Teravit.

Teravit is combination of the fantasy-like West, mixed with the romantic atmosphere of the East. It’s comprised of vast deserts and wildernesses, jungles and tropical areas, savannas, lava fields, ancient civilizations, floating continents and more, totaling more than 10 different zones. No matter how much you explore the vast world, you can never get enough of the beautiful sceneries that await you.
With that said, we would like to show you some in-game screenshots of Teravit!

First, a landscape full of colorful flowers. This is called the “Flower Zone”.

Deep in the jungle is an enormous tower.

A Japanese-style house can found in a field of Japanese pampas grass and cherry blossoms. It’s the scenery of a Japanese field.

Resting under a cherry blossom tree. This one is a personal favorite.

A sacred water temple with the setting sun behind it. Could there be something hidden inside?

A pyramid can be seen far beyond the wilderness.

Pass through the jungle to find a mysterious ruin.

A mysterious object lies between the totem poles.

As illustrated by this image, Teravit has huge underground and indoor fields.

These are just some of the sceneries you can find in Teravit.
Teravit is a randomly-generated, super vast world in which you can explore the various landscapes described above. As a regular feature of the sandbox genre, you can also destroy anything you want and build anywhere you want as well.

Teravit is still under development, but we will continue to push forward at a greater pace so that users can everyone can enjoy it as soon as possible!
We’re looking forward to your participation in the Alpha Test! With your opinion and feedback, we will be able to further development Teravit and take game to another level.

Finally, we would like to introduce some concept art that were created in the early stages of Teravit’s development. It’s a voxel representation of a boxy garden filled with as much of the world as possible. We have been developing Teravit for a long time since the initial concept art and we are relieved and excited to finally be able to announce our game with confidence.

In the next update, we would like to talk about the voxel art that makes up the world of Teravit, touching on some of the technical aspects of the voxel engine we mentioned at the beginning!
