Patch 0.5.14b - Deeds & Dams
Howdy, howdy y’all!
Put on your hat and hang on to it ‘cause we have been working on our biggest update yet. Since last time we have listened to the feedback from playtests and made sure to include your suggestions in our roadmap for the game. This update has everything from new quests to worktable reworks and even spooky ghosts! Let’s dig in.

After watching many new cowboys aimlessly roam the open prairie we thought that a more guided introduction would help with some of the basic mechanics.

At the start of the game, you will arrive at your uncle’s ranch and discover that a lot of things have been left in shambles and it’s up to you to settle the score with a little guidance from a cheery new friend.

With this update, we want to emphasize what it means to own land. We have added the concept of Deeds which will work as proof of ownership over a piece of land. You are not able to build on a piece of land unless you own the deed for it. This feature is in a very early stage and will evolve as development continues.

The prairie is expanding, and along with it the number of townspeople in Tumbleville is growing. Hearing about the opportunity for fame and fortune, folks are starting to turn up ready to shoot their shot. Friends or foes? You decide!

With this update, we are introducing Recipes - documents that teach you to craft new items. Some recipes will be given (or rewarded) to you by master crafters that you will meet, and some can be found by exploring the prairie and beyond.

One such master crafter is Yong Tienjiang, the blacksmith who has joined the growing community of Tumbleville. Besides being a master at bending metal to her will, she might provide you with critical quest clues and a recipe for building a smelter.

Are you itching for the latest hot Tumbleville gossip, and strangely also in need of woodworking tips? Then make sure you stop by Lars the Carpenter - a master craftsman of the wooden arts and a tireless blabbermouth who can’t resist sharing people’s secrets.

We have introduced random events to put back the Wild in ‘Wild West’ - what does this mean for your adventures?

Well… brace yourself for some good ol' fashioned cowboy chaos! You'll be bumping into bandit camps, crossing paths with wild animals, lending a hand to folks searching for their prized horse, and dealing with ruthless Gritt Corp. schemers trying to snatch up and ruin this pristine land of ours. So saddle up, and get ready for a wild ride through the ever-changing landscape of the Wild West!

In your quest for fortune, you’ll need precious metal, meaning you’ll have to dive deep into the mines. The mines have received a massive overhaul (and are still a work in progress) where we have moved away from randomly generated mineshafts to unique handcrafted levels.. Expect danger, darkness, and deposits of gold.

Want the latest top-shelf weapons and tools? Then you gotta get yourself the best worktables and that means upgrading them with the latest technology. Doing so will also give you access to more crafting materials to build unique decorations for your ranch. Venture into uncharted territories, lend a warm hand to those in need, or lend some cold lead to some bandits.
By doing so, you might be rewarded with upgrades for your worktables.

First of all, a big thanks to all of you who have tried the Playtest already. Your comments, feature suggestions, and bug reports will make sure Don’t Die in the West is a phenomenal Western adventure when we launch into Early Access. Based on your suggestions on Discord we've started to work on dun dun dun.... a Ghost Town. While still in a very early state, make sure you drop by and check in with your friendly neighborhood ghosts. There are rumors about Crazy Pete having trouble with treasure stealing coyotes, maybe you can lend a helping hand.

Another frequently requested feature is to have the natural resources of the prairie respawn. Previously, you could run out of harvestable resources on the prairie, but now we've implemented respawning for grass, and animals. Trees and mineral deposits are currently in the works with more tweaks planned for future patches.

As Gritt Corp expands its greedy hold on the land and poisons its very essence, the people are in dire need of a hero to put a stop to the injustice. As everyone knows, the first step in a revolution is civil disobedience - like peeking over a fence,

Or blowing stuff up

As they say, the prairie is your oyster!

The prairie keeps growing as we add more features. Make sure you check out the update and let us know on Discord all of your thoughts.

If you haven’t joined the Playtest already, don’t waste any more precious time and hop on. The Playtest is live and kickin’ as we speak (you read), drop by our Discord and ask for a key in the #request_beta_key channel.

Mini Patch Notes 0.4.4b - New Quest Log

Howdy, folks!

As promised in the previous patch we have continued our efforts to update the UI. For this mini patch we have implemented the following:

 • Quest log UI beauty upgrade

 • Removed leftover barn behind the house
 • Changed some recipes that were referencing resources that are not yet ready: refined hardwood, hardwood shafts, and iron blades (so now they don't)
 • Fixed an issue where worktables & bonfires could not be activated after going to the main menu and starting a new game

In the end, we want to give a quick shoutout to one of our community members mike_the_tundra on our Discord who made this glorious historically accurate football (soccer) field, stadium included.

We are excited to see what else y'all can create. Make sure to join our Discord if you haven’t already and show us your creations.

In case you haven’t started playing already, what are you waiting for?! The Beta is LIVE right now so make sure to go sign up for a key on dontdieinthewest.gg/signup or join our Discord and ask for a key in the #request_beta_key channel.

Warm howdies,
The Don't Die in the West team
