Devlog#3: Frozen Castle Concept Inspiration
This week we delve into the concepts for our first zone - Frozen Castle. We wanted to create a compelling and engaging game and the Frozen Castle, being the first zone of the game, was critical to set the tone and establish the game's core mechanics. It was essential to ensure that it seamlessly transitioned from the opening sequence to provide players with a consistent and cohesive experience.
For the Frozen Castle zone, we aimed to create an environment that evoked the look and feel of an old British-era castle. We drew inspiration from various historical castles and estates, including those found in the United Kingdom. We looked at the architectural details, such as the turrets, walls, and gates, to ensure that they reflect the style.

The transition from the opening level to the Frozen Castle zone was a crucial aspect of the game's narrative and gameplay experience. While the opening level features a bright, colorful, and cozy environment, the Frozen Castle zone provides a stark contrast with its cold, empty, and melancholic visual design. This contrast helps build a sense of mystery and establishes that the players are now far away from their home.

The use of a subdued color palette in the Frozen Castle zone also plays a critical role in keeping the focus on the game's fundamental concepts and mechanics. By minimizing distractions through the use of a muted color palette, players can more effectively engage with the game's elements and gameplay mechanics. This approach helped create a gameplay experience that is both immersive and challenging, drawing players into the game's world and mechanics while providing an exciting and rewarding experience.
We included various elements to add to the game's sense of mystery and intrigue, such as the mystery of who turned on the lanterns in the castle or the large egg shell found in one of the zone levels. We added this detail to add to the overall atmosphere of the zone and keep an element of exploration and discovery about the game's world and its secrets. The zone's design also features a gradual transition from the outside to the inside of the castle featuring different times of the day
