- CHAPTER #14 - CHRONICLES

All stories, although different, can be related to each other and the actions you take in one story may affect another story in the future. They also all share the same background, a general story or lore that describes the world and the most important characters that inhabit it.

With this new update I seek to emphasise and strengthen the background that they all share, giving the game's lore more richness and being now more present than ever, so that the players get to know the world that forms HB&P.

In order to make the stories more connected and the general lore more present, new general locations such as libraries have been added, where players can learn more about this world, and also some decisions that have an impact on different future adventures.

The game has many choices and options, as well as procedural elements that may or may not appear in the stories. That's why it is difficult to test everything the game has to offer and there are always some bugs that slip through the cracks. In this new update I've taken more time than I should have to test everything thoroughly again, trying to fix as many bugs as I've found. Below is the list of fixes, as well as the improvements and changes that this new patch brings to the game.

Changelog 0.7.2:

IMPROVEMENTS
- From the options, players can now choose to increase the font size of the main text in the adventure.
- The code of old buttons from the first adventures has been refined for a better behaviour of the game when pressing those buttons.
- A small code has been added to some spells when used in events to avoid bugs.
- A small code has been added to some items when used in events to avoid bugs.
- The image of the hunter character (male) has been modified and improved.
- Increased the delay time for turning the page when talking to the Mushroom folk, for a better transition, in the story ('The Labyrinth'). (Also fixed for the gnome if this should appear).
- Improved the size of the dead gnome image.
- Improved the image transition of the rolling rock trap.
- Improved page transitions when using items in the dungeon tower where King Arlon is being held ('Song of Kings & Wars').
- From now on players with Priest class will not be able to hit the 'spitting horse' if they encounter it in the story 'The Barbarian'.
- Many texts have been improved.
- Some minor improvements to the Options panel.

ADDED
- Added new general location that could appear in several adventures: Library. Libraries allow you to find books about the history of the Known Kingdoms, their geography or about the Gods.
- Added 11 new items: 11 books that tell the history of the HB&P world, its geography or about its gods.
- Added a new event. If you leave the queen's son in the Goblin King's castle in the story 'The Labyrinth', the child may appear later in the story 'The Funeral March'.
- Added a new option to enter the Serpent Tower if players give a coin to the town's vagabond. ('The Barbarian' Story)
- Added the possibility to find a bone key in the pile of bones in the frozen cave in the story 'The Ring of King Agmar'.
- Added storm sound.
- Added gallop sound on some pages when using the horse.
- Added new texts to some options in different quests.

CHANGES
- Changed the image of the -1 Spear to the +0 Spear (and vice versa).
- Changed the image of the +1 Sword to the +0 Sword (and vice versa).
- The texts on the player's arrival at the dwarven forges have been changed. ('The Ring of King Agmar' story)
- The text of the traitor in the story 'Song of kings & Wars' has been modified to improve the background of the story.
- The text of the first meeting with the member of the Shadow Guild has been shortened. ('The Ring of King Agmar' story)
- Modified slightly the text on the first page of the story 'The Labyrinth' to give more details about the location of the labyrinth.
- Some minor changes in some texts.
- The image of one of the mountains has been slightly modified.

BUGSFIXES
- Fixed a bug when choosing quest difficulty, where the difficulty bonus or penalty for the player also counted for the enemy when attacking.
- Fixed a bug that kept showing the full inventory icon even when you lost ingredients while cooking or alchemising on the level up page.
- Fixed a bug that kept showing the inventory icon full even when you made use of the Sands of Time in 'The Cobra's Ark' quest and they were no longer in your inventory.
- Fixed a bug that still kept the bonus of an amulet when it was discarded in an item substitution.
- Fixed a bug that did not show the number of the obtained ending, nor the total number of endings the quest 'The Funeral March' had when you finished it.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the 'Search in the forest' option on the first page of the 'Song of Kings & Wars' story from working correctly if the Aslona faction was chosen.
- Fixed a bug that gave you double points when using the Levitation spell in the Peak of Storms. ('The Ring of King Agmar' story)
- Fixed a bug that gave you double points when using the Levitation spell in the Swamp of the labyrinth. ('The Labyrinth' story)
- Fixed a visual bug that could cause the clergymen that accompany Ragnar's funeral march to appear behind the carriage. ('The Funeral March' story)
- Fixed a bug where the assassin character's image did not appear when looking in the mirror. ('The Labyrinth' story)
- Fixed a bug that prevented using a spear equipped for fishing on the coast of Serpent Island. ('The Cobra's Ark' story)
- Some texts have been corrected

I'm creating a new adventure for the game, which is very advanced, that you will be able to enjoy probably at the end of next month.

- CHAPTER #13 - THE RING OF KING AGMAR

A ring of sorcery was forged for Agmar, the father of King Arlon. This ring hides many secrets inside, but it corrupts its wielder. Coveted by the kings and queens of the Three Kingdoms, you have been tasked, as a hero of known prestige, to take it to the dwarven forge of Thai-Fandir, in the Impassable Mountains, where it was forged, and the only place where it can be destroyed.

Most of the new features have come from feedback from two players: Almarod and Wolvie. Thanks friends!. Wolvie was the first player I know of who managed to discover all the endings of all the stories, with a Bard-Sorceress-Warrior equipped with the +3 legendary spear, the Glacial Blast spell and a very heavy armour. The greatest heroine ever seen in the history of the Three Kingdoms! Thanks for everything, Wolvie.

This update for the game is the biggest update ever made to HB&P. It not only adds a new adventure, but also introduces a new mechanic: 'Mining', the ability to play in windowed mode, and the biggest list of improvements, additions and fixes yet.

[h3]IMPROVEMENTS[/h3]
- Possibility to play the game in windowed mode!.
- The alignment of the right-hand page has been slightly improved.
- In normal game mode, if a player selects a difficulty for their game, this difficulty is now maintained for all adventures until the player decides to change it again.
- Improved loading system. This will now prevent some errors that could occur when loading a game from a running adventure (Credit: Lost Wisdom).
- Experience points for spells used in events throughout the game have been revised.
- Now whenever an item has no value, it will show a value of 0 at the time of sale instead of an empty value.
- Revised the list of spells granted by alchemists, witches and towers of magic. It is now more balanced and varied.
- Improved the system for buying spells in the markets. Character class is now taken into account a bit more. From now on any character with a level higher than 11 in Wisdom can access them.
- The button system on some pages of the 'Your first Adventure' story were outdated, and I have improved them to fit the new code. This can avoid exploits or bugs.
- Improved the code for the central room of the Serpent Tower (The Barbarian story), and added sounds to the possible actions.
- Improved the appearance and performance of the 'Road to the City' page in The Barbarian story.
- The image of the rune stone location has been improved by adding more details (Various adventures).
- Improved pond images (Various adventures).
- Improved pit image.
- Improved images of the gardens of Caebrend ('Song of Kings & Wars' story).
- I have changed and improved the image of the great inn in the story 'Song of Kings & Wars'.
- Many other images have been improved with small details.

- Added a message to inform the player that they can change the difficulty of quests to their liking on the quest selection page in free play mode.

- Added the possibility that when drinking beer in taverns, if your character proves to be a real drinker, the tavern keeper will return your coin and give you another one.
- Added a new option in the story 'Your first Adventure' to be able to complete it without having to fight (All stories can now be completed without having to fight).
- Added the option to give Kraken Meat to Aslona's witch in the story 'Your First Adventure'.
- Added sounds when using Levitation or LightSpell in the adventure 'Your first Adventure'.

- Slightly increased difficulty 'Impossible Level', for players who want a real challenge or have powerful characters. +4 -> +5. (Feature inspired by the player Wolvie)
- Changed the Wizards's initial spell from Invisibility to Levitation.
- The class 'Priest' now also has access to the spell scrolls of the markets from the beginning.
- Minimally increased the chances of finding armour during quests for combat characters (now slightly more likely).
- Wizard Towers will now only give direct damage combat spells to characters with a low Wisdom rating, if they hand over a magic scroll.
- The price of buying horses in the stables has increased to 5.
- Selling a horse in the stable will give you 4 coins instead of 2.
- Increased +0 Flail damage. 6 -> 7 . As well as the gold gained from selling it. 8 -> 10. (Legendary weapon)
- Taking out guards with a bow or spear now grants more experience points.
- Reduced the amount of experience points the player gets when using spells to put guardians to sleep.
- Looting the corpse cart on the road leading to the city in the story 'The Barbarian' can now grant a +1 Sword instead of a +0 Sword.
- Modified the text of the description of the next adventure to develop: 'The Lost City'.
- The texts of the locals in the big inn in the story 'Song of Kings & Wars' were not quite to my liking, so I have changed them.
- Some of the text of the Last Inn has been modified to match the lore of the game in general ('Your first adventure' story).
- The Assassin character, despite starting the game as a neutral character, now starts with a +1 Evil Point and is closer to becoming evil through actions.
- The name of the Crowburg's Priestess has changed from Evanore to Serena.
- Changed the image of the Serpent Tower and the image of its entrance.
- Changed the image of the +3 Mace.
- Changed the Gold Necklace image.

[h3]BUGSFIXES[/h3]
- Fixed a bug that could prevent the player from advancing through the main corridor of the Cobra Temple (The Cobra's Ark story). (Credit: Wolvie)
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from continuing a quest if the knight serving the same lord as you gave you a +0 Mace in the 'Song of Kings & Wars' storyline. (Credit: Wolvie)
- Fixed a rare bug that prevented you from getting the benefit of amulets earned if you had 8 items in your inventory, or a full inventory.
- Fixed a bug that prevented characters with a high WIS value from acquiring max level spells when giving magic components to alchemists and witches.
- Fixed a bug where a player who continuously swapped a bow with any other weapon, and had a quiver in their inventory, would have the bow deal infinite damage.
- Fixed a bug in which, when you unequipped the +3 INT amulet (legendary item), the game would increase the character's INT by +3 instead of subtracting it.
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from buying a net from the barbarian blacksmith if you only had one free slot left in your inventory (Credit: Almarod).
- The location of the money changer had no text. One has been added.
- Fixed a text when digging the grave in the story 'The Barbarian' that indicated you got a skull when in fact the game gave you a strange idol.
- Fixed a small bug that could appear in the text when you found Grauler's hut ('The Cobra's Ark story).
- One of the common forests that could appear in the story 'Song of Kings & Wars' had no text of its own. This has been corrected.
- Avoided a sound conflict that could occur when using the shovel.
- Some typos fixed.
- Some smaller arrangements.

- CHAPTER #12 - THE BACKGROUND TO THE STORY

These weeks I have received good advice and feedback from the player Almarod, and from the game designer of ArchRebel: Tactics, Ularis Badler. Thank you, my friends.

This update includes a lot of improvements, among which we can highlight the change of the combat music, graphical improvements, and above all an improvement in the background of the HEROES OF BOOK & PAPER stories, emphasizing the lore in general.


I also want to tell you that the next story 'The Ring of King Agmar' is well underway, and I hope to have it completed and uploaded in a few weeks. The wait will be worth it, as I'm making it with a lot of love and care, trying to make it a great story down to the smallest detail. Thanks for your patience.

- In anticipation of having different types of dragons in the future, the only one dragon in the game (for now) is labelled as a 'Green Dragon', and has the attribute of poison.

BUGSFIXES
- Clicking on failed end-of-adventure messages could cause the player to not leave the page, and forced them to click elsewhere. This has been corrected.
- Fixed a bug in the adventure 'Your First Adventure' that could change the encounters by the well, if the player looked at the inventory, or if they returned from the inn to the well again.
- Fixed a bug where if a player looked at their inventory while drowning in the sea, they would be directed back to a different page.
- Correctly aligned the red cross that sometimes blocks the option to press the escape button.

- CHAPTER #11 - THE ASSASSIN

I am a whisper in the wind. I am the shadow you don't see. I am the executing hand and I will carry to the other world, during the silent night, the souls of those who are named in my orders.

This new update adds the last remaining hero to be designed: The Assassin. Players will now be able to play using this class.

As always I take advantage of the update to add more content and improvements to the game. I hope you enjoy them.

THE ASSASSIN
- The assassin is the character with the highest DEX skill value in the game.
- The assassin can choose two unique weapons at the start of the game: the Lethal Bow and the Double Daggers.
- The assassin gets special options to take out guards or set up ambushes, as well as to go unnoticed using stealth.
- The assassin, despite starting with a neutral alignment, is closer than any other character to becoming evil.

Changelog 0.6.7:

IMPROVEMENTS
- Spell images flickering when a player chooses a spell in the character selection screen has been avoided.
- Slightly improved the image of the Rogue player character.
- The skull image on the end of adventure or end of campaign page has been aligned correctly.
- Some adventure texts have been enriched for more literary content (Some adventures).

ADDED
- Added new character: The Assassin!.
- Added a message at the end of a failed quest to indicate to the player that they still have their level and items despite not completing the quest.
- Looting Beldar in the story 'The cobra's Ark' can now give you a +1 spear in addition to the other possible weapons that can be generated.

- Fixed a bug that could cause when playing a campaign, and loading a Freeplay game from the campaign, the freeplay game would turn into a campaign.
- Fixed a bug where in the dead forest of the quest 'The Barbarian' a message did not appear when you found a rope.
- The image of damage caused by flocks of birds has been correctly aligned.

- CHAPTER #10 - CAMPAIGN MODE

Campaign mode has been added!

From now on HB&P, players will be able to enjoy two types of gameplay: Normal and Campaign.

Also, these weeks I have received very good feedback from one of our players: ElVillano. Thanks to his ideas and suggestions, I've been able to make a lot of improvements.

- Fighting in the barbarian arena can now only be chosen once per adventure (Credit: ElVillano).
- Now, in the story 'The Funeral March' each cleric that reaches the end of the story grants +5 XP extra to the player.
- The graphics of the necropolis in the story 'The Barbarian' have been changed and improved.
- Changed the standard turanian warrior image.
- I've changed the image of an orc that didn't quite suit me.

BUGSFIXES
- Fixed a bug that could cause a game crash when using the numeric keypad to select options in combat.
- Fixed an issue that prevented the correct selection of options in the quest 'The Funeral March' with the keyboard.
- Fixed a bug where the initial 'Sing to the Beast' Hunter spell would not display its information when moused over.
- Fixed a bug where the reflected image of the Hunter character in the hall of mirrors (in the story 'The Labyrinth') was not displayed.
