SMALL INVENTORY PATCH

This small patch fixes a couple of bugs in the new inventory code. I've also taken the opportunity to make further improvements to it.

Changelog:

IMPROVEMENTS
- When you mouse over an equipped weapon in the inventory panel it also shows its damage and combat attribute.
- When you mouse over an equipped spell, the inventory now also shows you its data.
- The inventory code now makes sure to correctly clear the data displayed when the mouse leaves the object.

ADDED
- Added description of a future new story.

BUGSFIXES
- Fixed a bug where changing the weapon could not correctly display the damage it does when hovering the mouse over it in the inventory.
- Fixed a bug that directed the player to the wrong page when using the lockpick to get to the goblin king's tower ('The Labyrinth' story).
- Fixed a small bug where the name of the equipped weapon could rarely be displayed in the inventory without any interaction with the weapon.

- CHAPTER #9 - INVENTORY & INTERIORS

*Note: I had to change a lot of the game code for these improvements, so it is possible that when loading a save game, some armour may not display correctly, some items may get stuck in the inventory, and the currently equipped spell may fail in some events. I RECOMMEND STARTING A NEW GAME. Please forgive any inconvenience this may cause.

Some players have suggested me to improve the Inventory system, and players are the most important thing for a developer. I have also received advice on some very good improvements to incorporate into the game. HB&P is a game made for those players, and I want the experience playing it to be the best possible, so I got to work on it. You will see in the changelog which players have contributed ideas and now they are also part of HB&P.

This update focuses on completely changing the inventory system, adding a lot of improvements. This is very important, because from now on, equipped items no longer take up space allowing the player to carry a total of 12 items instead of 9, you can now sort and delete empty slots, and you can cancel the mode of deleting items or selling them by pressing the same button again (and more improvements).

I have also modified the interior location graphics. They look much better now.

And as always, I have added some new options, some new items, and some improvements.

IMPROVEMENTS
- The design of the inventory page has been improved.
- Equipped weapons, armour, and spells do not take up inventory space now (Credit: Paladin Ecko).
- When you get a new item or spell, and your inventory is full, the game system now allows you to replace the newly acquired item with another item that was already in your inventory (Credit: Manuelcooby).
- Added a button to sort the inventory.
- Now when you click the remove items from inventory button again, you are returned to the option to select items.
- In character selection, you no longer need to click on the weapon to see the damage it does, just hover your mouse over it.
- In character selection, the image and description of the spell the mouse is on, is now displayed immediately after choosing a weapon in the same slot. (Credit: Sogtul)
- Now you can see a button to press to go to the options from within the game (Credit: Manuelcooby).
- The volume control bar has been improved for better sound control (Credit: Manuelcooby).
- Pressing the ESC key now also exits the options menu.

ADDED
- Added new armor: Wizard Cloak (a very rare armor hard to find only for characters with a high Wisdom value).
- New weapon: -2 Battle Axe (Very rare to find. Only for characters with high Strength value).
- Added a small possibility that one of the starting villages of the adventure 'The Cobra's Ark', instead of an inn, generates a stable.
- Added possibility to give Kraken Meat to the witch in the story 'The Funeral March'.

CHANGES

- The ending of the story 'Your first Adventure' now depends on the direction the player takes in the cave.
- All images of the castle interiors have been changed.
- Changed the image of the interior of the taverns (Several stories).

- Enhanced an image of a steppe (Several stories).
- Changed the image of the entrance to the tower in the story 'The Barbarian'.

BUGSFIXES
- Adjusted the position of weapon and armour bonus numbers to avoid some weapons not displaying the number correctly and also to avoid visual glitches.
- Fixed a bug where the attack button did not display the attribute used on the first attack in the game, or on the first attack after switching weapons.
- Fixed an issue with the volume bar that could be reset if the player returned to the main game panel (Credit: Manuelcooby).
- Fixed a bug that prevented Wizards or Necromancers from obtaining one of the endings of the story 'The Funeral March'.
- Fixed a bug that could display an incorrect inventory icon when accessing the game options from the inventory by pressing the ESC key.
- Fixed a small visual glitch when closing the inventory.
- Fixed a bug in a location in the story 'The Cobra's Ark' where the player, despite having a rope, could not use it.
- Fixed a bug when you bought a horse and your inventory was already full.
- Some texts fixed.

What's next?

I'm still working to offer as soon as possible the Campaign game mode, which will add another different way to play HB&P, much more difficult, more interesting, and heroic!.

- CHAPTER #8 - THE FUNERAL MARCH

Ragnar, Queen Valeria's First Wizard and personal advisor, is dead. Queen Valeria wants you to accompany his funeral march from Caeb to Crowburg, capital of the Duchy of Kingshire, where the great wizards of Caebrend are buried. You must pass through territory claimed by goblin tribes, so be very careful

This new update includes a new story: The Funeral March.

Also like the other updates, this one comes with improvements and new options for the rest of the stories as well.

This is the changelog v 0.6:

IMPROVEMENTS
- The combat buttons have been improved to prevent players from over-pressing the attack buttons, which could lead to bugs or exploits in the game code (as the program could not read the code as fast). (Credits: Berni)
- The system for acquiring scrolls with spells in the markets now takes better account of the character's class.

ADDED
- Added new story: The Funeral March.
- Added new weapon: +3 Sling. (This weapon is available to the Bard at the start of a game).
- Average enemies now have more loot options.
- The player now has options to avoid ambushes if they are previously discovered.
- Added as a possible enemy in the catacombs of 'The Barbarian' story city: Giant Rat.
- The hunter now generates an option to survive by hunting when on a deserted island (Various stories).

- Some class-specific options have received an overhaul of the experience points they award (more experience points are now awarded).
- It has changed the image of a generic wizard.

BUGSFIXES
- Fixed a bug where if a bard was injured and used the rest option in a tavern, the bard would start singing instead.
- Fixed a bug in the EXPEL UNDEAD spell that didn't work on a specific type of zombie (it worked on the others).
- Fixed a small bug that prevented you from buying Primordial Essence from the nomadic tribes of Turania if you had exactly 8 items in your inventory ('Song of Kings & Wars').
- Some of the text on some buttons has been aligned.

And What is the next?

The next update is very important as it will finally include the CAMPAIGN MODE.

Campaign mode is the basic way to play Heroes of Book & Paper. The game selects 5 different stories and the player must complete them in the given order, and cannot fail any of them! This would result in the campaign being considered a failure. The first story will start on easy difficulty, and gradually the difficulty of the stories will increase to very hard.

Completing the campaign is only for true book and paper heroes.

- CHAPTER #7 - THE HUNTER

Aslona is known for its strong and tough hunters. The life of a hunter is very routine, but sometimes they feel the call of adventure.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HUNTER
- The hunter may begin their adventures with a -5 Hunter's Bow. This is the only bow in the game that deals 3 points of damage per attack (although it takes a -5 penalty to hit).
- The hunter gets an automatic option to hunt prey in hunting events, even if he/she does not have the right weapon.
- The hunter does not receive evil points when hunting.
- The hunter can find shelter to avoid flocks of birds.
- The hunter can automatically set traps in events that require it, even without the right objects.

IMPROVEMENTS
- Enlarged text width in the text box to improve readability and the possibility of enlarging some paragraphs.
- The image of the text frame has been improved.
- When players now hover their mouse over the alignment icon, text appears indicating whether they are Good, Evil or Neutral.
- Reduced the volume of combat impact.

ADDED
- New selectable character: The Hunter
- All inns now offer the option to rest whenever your character is wounded.
- The city tavern of the story 'The Barbarian' can now generate the option to 'challenge to an arm wrestle'.
- Added sound when talking to the Prophet of Doom.
- New phrase for the Prophet of Doom in the story 'The Barbarian'.
- New sound when the player sets up a trap.
- New sound for birds.

CHANGES
- One of the end of adventure texts of the story 'The Barbarian' didn't convince me and I have changed it to make it more literary. (I'm your father)
- For the same reason I have changed the final texts of the story 'The Labyrinth'.
- I have changed the icons of the character alignment.
- Using bow or spear to overcome events now gives more experience points.
- The image of the +1 Spear has been changed.
- The image of the Quiver has changed.

BUGS
- Fixed a bug where poisonous creatures would not apply their poison when attacked by a spell.
- Fixed a bug where an ally from a previous adventure could appear in a fight in the current quest.
- Small correction in the volume control.
- Some texts corrected.

VOLUME CONTROL

Thanks to a suggestion from [OCD] Mbutu Otutu player, I have uploaded a small patch with volume reduction for all music and added in the options the possibility to control the volume.
