🐻 Animals and the best ways to hunt them 🦌
Howdy, Chiefs and Chieftainesses!
As you may know, the paleo diet consists not just of vegetables, roots and the like but also animals. As per our last update, it’s now time to have a look at all prey available in the game, and best equipping yourself and the tribe to respond to their behavioural pattern and choosing how to tactile your ambushes!
🐔 Junglefowl
One the most common animals you first encounter when starting the game. Quick, nimble and easy to frighten away. You don’t need much strength in order to attack and It may well be one of the best target practice. It’s slow and vulnerable to all type of damage your weapons may provide: Blunt, Slashing, and Piercing.

With our Second Era updates, you will be able to tame the animal and have them in your settlement for eggs and meat. How exciting!
🐇 Wild Rabbit
Cute and just as easy to shy away once they spot you, these cuddly fellows speed away at the slightest provocation. It’s also rather easy to subdue and proves an easy source of meat at the start, and with all available weapons. Be sure to carve it right and you may be greeted with your first furs!
🦌 Caribou Deer
Requiring definitely more tactic than just brute force, deers are most susceptible to more advanced weapons with Piercing damage such as Javelins, Bone Spear, and Arrows. It would be best to circle them or drive them to a narrow pathway, cliffside or otherwise take their exit route out of the equation. They’re your first premium source of meat, bone and hides, as well as the only antlered animal in the game so far.
🐺 Dire Wolf
Congrats, you just crossed paths with the first predator in the game! Beware their sharp fangs and claws as wolves attack you on sight and their key advantage is numbers. Circling their victim, they will aim to tire you out and make sure you cannot draw distance to fire Piercing weapons at them. Be sure to bring your tribe along to fight back, and persevere.
Also, remember to fetch some meat from your previous hunt – thanks to our newest update, you will be able to tame them into loyal hunting companion!
🐗 Wild Boar
This battle will be legendary! Boars are small, nimble and definitely ferocious in guarding their forest territories – though small, they may be of the toughest enemies to master! Evade their sharp tusks, roll away and remember that their pursuit of you doesn’t end before you either run away or you defeat them in combat. They are resistant to mere Blunt or Slashing damage thanks to their thick skin.
Their bodies offer fat that you can use in crafting recipes, and once seduced with some treats, they are happy to join your growing farm.
🐂 Aurochs
Thought to be the ancestors of today’s cattle, aurochs are stoic animals – that is, until they spot you trying to come closer to the herd. Once seen, they are guarding themselves to death and will charge at you without provocation. Approach with caution and only once you are a capable hunter – their hides make them more resistant to early stage weapons, and attacking them requires good communication with the tribe as direct Blunt damage doesn’t do much harm.

Bribe them with food, and you can start your cattle empire back at the camp, providing you with meat, milk, antlers and more!
🐯 Tiger
The majestic beast that for sure hunted our ancestors’ nightmares! Beware this predator when alone as it will attack on sight and will not stop before either of you is dead, or you successfully evade it beyond its interest and sight. Nimble and a master hunter using their paws and sharp teeth, it’s best to rear clear of its territory before you get experience and bring your tribe people up to speed and same level of weapon mastery as your character. Picking up Blades and Piercing weapons are your best choice against them.
🐻Brown Bear
Definitely not the friendly Yogi bear but rather a deadly machine! Bears, just like tigers, will attack on sight and will not stop unless you best them, or run away. Remember, they are tougher and more menacing opponents as Slashing or Blunt weapons do little against their thick furs. Due to their size and magnitude, their corpses once carved offer you the most meat, bone, sinews, fat and fur, compared to previous types of animals.
🐘 Mammoth
Legendary, woolly and deadly! Mammoths used to roam the earth thousands of years ago and you can definitely see why they were the prize hunting animals for our ancestors. Prepare to be stomped on, charged at, and pierced with sharp tusks – this particular animal fights with all their might, and they will not go easy on you. Ready your best weapons and combine different damage types against their ferocious attacks, as their weaknesses do not lie in one single type of weapons but rather tenacity and tribe cooperation.

Mammoths are the sole source of ivory for the game which you require in the later stages of your tribe to produce figurines out of polished ivory.

We hope that this quick repertoire of the animals and best tactics on how to approach them aid you in making your tribes prosper and flourish! Tune in for our next updates and understanding the ins and outs of the low poly world of Polylithic!
