Supraworld News

Sorry, we're slow.

I know many of you are waiting for Early Access and I predicted october at some point.

We're like "we only need to do those 4 things, then act 1 is ready", but then you find problems in code you did 1-2 years ago and happen to rework it completely for performance reasons and another month went by with no real progress.
Things just take more time for it to be good.

I was also personally busy moving to a new home from june to october, which didn't help.

We're currently doing a lot of optimisation. I already have the FPS quadrupled on my machine, which is pretty cool, because I was really worried about performance for a long time, but it's getting very good now. Btw, it's not so much GPU stuff. The bottleneck is still in inefficient code running on the CPU.

Besides that, most core features are almost done. So at least development speed will dramatically increase once we've finished those fundamentals and optimised a lot.

You might also have heard about Unreal Engine 5.5 and some of the new features. We're looking forward to try those out, especially Megalights can make a big difference for us as it is currently a big problem that we cannot have many lights at the same time. It will give us so much more freedom in the world design.

I would say Early Access should definitely happen in early 2025.
Sorry to everyone waiting, but we have to make sure it's good!
See you in the next apology news post :D

Sandbox sequel Supraworld gets loose release date, bringing its shrunken hero to early access this year

"Honey, I shrunk the first-person puzzler. Twice." This is how I like to imagine the designer of Supraworld explaining the hijinks that unfold in his life. Supraworld, the sequel to toybox explorer Supraland, is going to hit early access this year, say developers Supra Games in an update post on Steam. These are happy words for anyone who enjoyed 2019's dander among the sandcastles and erasers. A lot of games offer a "sandbox" but in Supraland, the entire world really did take place in exactly that - a sandbox out in a garden, full of toys. The sequel's launch into early access "might be in october," says the post. "We'll see."

Supraworld Early Access date

Due to the recent daily deal and summer sale on Steam, Supraland got a lot of new friends. It had the highest player
peak since 2020 even.
If you haven't yet, please wishlist our upcoming game Supraworld which is in the works since 2021.

Then next step for Supraworld is to finish act 1 (out of 4) by the end of august. At first we will test this version privately with a few people and then expand the testing group a bit. When we think act 1 is solid, we want to release it to Early Access. That might be in october. We'll see.

We go Early Access because
- the experience from Supraland was that making the game while people are playing it to be a great advantage for feedback and motivation reasons. Seeing people play what you're making, you are being reminded why you're actually doing this and try to give people a better time instead of working on something in isolation forever.
- we also simply need the Early Access income because we're working on the game for 3 years now and production is expensive.

If you now think, if we're only finishing act 1 after 3 years, acts 2-4 will take forever: no, there is a lot done in them too, but it's just lots of loose bits that are not connected yet. You will see stuff around the Early Access area that we'll block off for now though. Some might take that as a challenge.
Most of the work on the game is independent from the acts though. It's mostly fundamental stuff of the game mechanics, performance optimisations and things like menus; nothing act specific.

Every like on this post reduces development time by 1 minute, as usual. Really.

Supraworld progress estimate April 2024

When Supraworld is done? I dunno! But I made this graphic with a vague estimate so you get an idea where we're at.
When the Fundamentals and Act 1 are done we can basically start playtesting up to that point, which would happen in the form of Early Access here on Steam.

Liking this post decreases development time by 1 minute.
