Halve Devlog #0

Hey hey!

Welcome to our very first Devlog of Halve - the puzzle platformer where you have to control two characters at once!
Our plan with these Devlogs is to showcase you, our players, the development process, and how we tackle different development scenarios.

I'm Airidas, a Game Designer/Developer from the Moonleaf studio, and I will try my best to post these updates at least once a month, so if you're interested in learning more about behind the scene's stuff, join me for a ride!

The Team

As this is the initial Devlog, I think that it's only natural that I should introduce the people who are working their hardest to make the game a reality.

We are Moonleaf studio, a small group of Indie Developers from Lithuania. We have been working on different game ideas in the past, but none were as ambitious as Halve!

There are four of us in total at the moment:
  • I'm the Glowing Things guy with a Twist. In other words, I do Game design for the project, as well as VFX Art and develop some stuff here and there
  • Eligijus is our Code magician - he does everything related to those 1's and 0s to make the game work behind the scenes.
  • Migle is the Visionary Mastermind. She brings all the visions to life with her mesmerizing concepts and creative vision.
  • Gantas is, as we like to call him, the Vertex king. He's a madman who can do anything that's related to 3D stuff. Oh yeah, and he does environments as well.

Long story short, we're a team who are extremely passionate about everything game related. For instance, we keep on getting involved in Game Jams ever since the first day we tried out the competition. I can't even remember how many projects I was a part of during these events.

Halve

It's actually quite a funny story to how we even got to the point of creating Halve.
Since we love taking part in Game Jam competitions, and we did just that about a year and a half ago - we took part in the Global Game Jam 2022. The Theme for that year was Duality - and you can probably already see where this is going by now :D. We brainstormed loads of ideas, bashed them together, and got the inspiration to create something similar to an old flash Co-op game Fireboy and Watergirl, just with a unique twist. Which was to make the game single-player, where the player would have to control both of the characters at the same time.

There were actually some other nuances as well - so if you'd like to know more about the story, and how we actually went from the small Game Jam prototype to where we are now, be sure to check out the Devlog video down below!
