Paper Perjury: Case 6 (first half) has released!

Today is the day! We are releasing the first half of Case 6!
[p]For those unaware, we intended to release the full case today, but due to circumstances outside of game development, we couldn't finish the full case. Rather than make everyone wait, we are releasing the first half now while we finish the second half for later this year.[/p][p]We understand that some people will not play case 6 until it's completely finished, and that's okay. We will keep working on case 6 until it's completely finished. We give us just a bit more time.[/p][p]We apologize for any disappointment in this delay and our team would love nothing more than to finish this case. We simply need more time, and we hope that effort in the first half of this case shows that we are working hard to make this case the best in the game.[/p][p][/p][p]What does this new patch have in store?[/p][p][/p]
New characters:
[p]A trio of brothersAn arson detective...[/p][p]A new rival to match wits with...[/p][p]And more.[/p][p][/p]
New Achievements:
[p]All the new achievements are in case 6. We didn't want to force players to replay cases 1-5 just for achievements. [/p][p]We intend to add achievements to the second half of case 6 as well, but those will come out when case 6 is complete. As of right now, players can get 100% achievements with only the first half.[/p][p][/p]
New Music:
[p]We are new music to Paper Perjury! There are three full songs added, two of which are exclusive to Case 6. [/p][p]The third song is "Between the Lines ~ Presto". This song will be added to cases 3-5 during the final sections of each case to add more dramatic flare. [/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]This was a song that the Director James wanted for the first release, but it was cut due to needing the time (and money) to make more important songs for the rest of the soundtrack. The final song composed for the original release was the Ballade ~ für Justina, which James felt was more important for the game. With the new DLC, there was time (and money) to add it back in.[/p][p]There is one more song, but it's more of a remix of another song. Players will know it when they hear it.[/p][p][/p]
Other Updates:
[p]In cases 1-5, we had characters refer to a "Chief" of the station. We are changing this to "Lieutenant" in all but one insistence. We want the police station to reflect modern police stations, and noticed that "Chiefs" tend to include all the precincts in a city, while a Lieutenant is in charge of a single precinct. And who knows, maybe future content will make this change worth doing... [/p][p][/p][p]The only exception to this change is Owen Eubank saying, "One phone call to the Chief of Police, and I'll ensure you never work in this city again!" We feel this fits his character because he would go to the top of the chain to fire Detective Hunt. [/p][p][/p][p]Thank you to everyone who has played Paper Perjury so far. We hope you enjoy the first half of Case 6 and look forward to the full case later this year.[/p]

"Between the Lines ~ Presto" is now on the Paper Cat Games YouTube Channel

Composed by Dante Gofar, this song will be in the upcoming update to Paper Perjury. It is also the song that played during the release date trailer last December. For those who missed it, see below.

Currently, it it only in cases 3-5 during the final sections of each interrogation section. When we finish the second half of case 6, it will show up as well.

We hope you enjoy the song and look forward to the first half of Case 6!

An update to Case 6

Hello everyone,

This is James, the director of Paper Perjury.

Previously, we announced the release date for Paper Perjury case 6 to be February 22. We are sorry to say, we will not be able to finish the whole case by February 22.

To be exact, we have the means to release the first half of Case 6 by that day, but that's it. Similar to case 5, case 6 has four parts (parts 1 and 3: Investigation Phase, parts 2 and 4: Interrogation Phase), there has been a snag to part 3.

During the editing, polishing, and everything in between phase of part 3, a major life development happened for our team of two main writers. For privacy reasons, I won't go into the details. This has, for the most part, stopped development of case 6. In truth, we don't know exactly how long this delay will last as it's still an ongoing issue that is likely to remain for the foreseeable future.

I was hoping it would be resolved by now... but it hasn't.

We do still have the first draft of part 3 and 4, but we won't be happy with releasing those parts as is, even with minor editing. We want to use the full edited version of part 3 and 4... but that's not an option for a while. Again, for privacy reasons, I won't go into the details.

That leaves us with one of two choices, not release anything on February 22 and delay the whole thing without a release date...

Or release the first half of the case and leave the second half of the case as a cliff hanger until we finish the case at an unknown time.

As director, I have decided to release half the case on Steam on February 22 with a note at the start of the case giving context.

Why not wait until the full case is done to release it? Because I simply can not say when it will be done. It may take two more months, it may take longer. Between the composers who made more music for this game, to the artists that worked on the new characters, I do not want to hide all their work. Paper Cat Games is mainly just me and Rebecca (my co-dev for the writing, programming, etc), but we employ contractors who can't release their work unless we release something. It wouldn't be fair to them.

We deeply apologize. I can answer every question in the comments, aside from explaining the privacy reasons.

Update based on feedback

[p]Last week, Paper Cat Games released a survey to get feedback on the Paper Perjury. We got quite a number of responses with a range of opinions. We are very thankful that people took the time out of their day to write such detailed answers. (link to survey for anyone else who would like to fill it out.)[/p][p][/p][p]While we can't change too much about Paper Perjury, we do plan to use these for future content. [/p][p][/p][p]That said, there was one response recently that we do want to address. Case 5 is the only case with two different investigation sections. One response stated that some of the dialogue in part 3 still had the same text from part 1, despite already knowing the answer. So we are addressing it here.[/p][p]Patch notes (and spoilers) ahead:

After Fie confesses to having been inside the Eubank building, new dialogue appears when you investigate the desk in the Eubank lobby.

Justina thinking "(Now we know that Fie was here, and the cat toy belonged to Toasty. I really hope I never have kids that good at hiding...)

In part 3, inside the garage, new dialogue appears when you investigate both Anton's and Lowell's car.
Anton's car:
Justina "We found out why the car was damaged. Turns out, Lowell was the one who tried to drive it."
Justina "And since he couldn't drive stick shift, that's what led to the tail lights being damaged."
Meg "See, I told you no one could drive it without being taught."
Sophie "Sorry that his recklessness got you involved in this."
Meg "Not at all! I should be thanking him. I get paid based on the damage."
Meg "If he backed it into the wall one more time, I could have charged his family twice as much."
Justina thinking "(You know what, I wish he did. Meg deserves that extra pay.)"

Lowell's car:
Meg "Never in a million years would I think Anton's body was placed in Lowell's trunk."
Justina "Solving this case would have been so much easier if we had broken into his car like I suggested."
Justina "I'm not saying we should have broken into it, but..."
Sophie "And if we did, the evidence wouldn't get past any judge. So we had to do it the hard way."
Justina "I know. I just wish the hard way wasn't so... hard."

We are also updating Meg's design so that the redness in her face isn't as pronounced. She will still have red cheeks when she's nervous or sad, but that makes sense for those emotions.

This is the only change to her design.

Thank you to everyone, and we hope to get more feedback in the coming weeks before Case 6 releases next month.

Paper Perjury Feedback form

[p]We are looking for feedback for future Paper Perjury content. [/p][p][/p][p]Here is a form for anyone who would like to fill it out. [/p][p][/p][p]We plan to release a version of this after Case 6 launches. This version is just for cases 1-5.[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you to everyone who provides feedback.[/p]
