MASSIVE Spirittea 2.0 Update coming Dec 4th!

[p]Hi everyone,

[/p][p]I hope you’ve all been well and have been enjoying your time with Spirittea.  The Spirittea 2.0 is almost here, bringing with it more customization, spirits, riddles, character building, and more![/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p]
Beasts of Stone
[p]After booting up the update, you’ll be able to find six new animal statues around town.  These statues are linked to a new spirit that can be found in the “park” (the little area above the school with the bench and the checkerboard). [/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]This new odd-looking spirit, named Aramachi, will pose riddles to you which, when solved, reward you with scrolls depicting Divine Formations as well as a few other great prizes.  As you can see below, a new Riddle tab has been added to the Collections section of the in-game menu.  Think you’ve got what it takes to solve Aramachi’s riddles?[/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p] [/p]
Divine Formations
[p]A new system has been added to managing the bathhouse.  Divine Formations are specific arrangements of spirits in the various baths of the bathhouse.  The arrangements are based on the spirits’ seasons, which will now be indicated next to their little mood bubble (so long as you’ve dug up their respective spirit tome).  Achieving a Divine Formation (i.e. seating spirits in a way that matches a particular formation) will reward you with Divine Currency, a precious resource sought after by a new kind of spirit, new to this update. [/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]The in-game menu has been modified.  The Friendships sections (with the photos of the NPCs) has been removed and replaced with the above-pictured Formations section.  The Friendships section was in the game since its early days of development but became a bit obsolete once the Town Pamphlet was added to the game (showing the hearts and friendship levels of each NPC).  Speaking of the NPCs...[/p][p] [/p]
New NPC Portraits
[p]
NPCs have received updated textbox portraits, courtesy of my wife (the artist of the original portraits).  Not only will each NPC receive a new portrait, they will have a total of 4, with each NPC’s portrait changing as you achieve different friendship levels with them.[/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]I hope you’ll love the new portraits as much as I do.  I know my wife did her best to visually bring these characters to life and let their personalities shine through.[/p][p] [/p]
Mountain Ruins and New Spirits
[p] [/p][p]Ascending the mountain hiking trail you’ll now be able to find some new ruins in the meadow just to the west of the mountain’s top.  Using Spirit Vision you’ll meet a Grun, a being the spirits refer to as a Divine Builder. [/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]Work with the Grun to restore the ruins on the mountain and you may just encounter some new spirits at the bathhouse.  Four new spirits, to be exact, each an “abnormal” bather, meaning they bring unique challenges to running the bathhouse.[/p][p] [/p][p][/p]
Town Improvements
[p] [/p][p]After restoring all of the ruins on the mountain you can work with the Gruns to fix up/improve different areas of the town.  These upgrades require loads of Moolags and unique ingredients/materials, so you won’t likely be able to upgrade the majority of them until later on.  They give a little something for late-game players to work towards![/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p]
New Customization
[p]New character and house customization items have been added to the game including:[/p][p]-3 new faces to choose from in the character customization screen[/p][p]-ponytail hairstyle (brown, blonde, pink, blue)[/p][p]-afro hairstyle (black, orange)[/p][p]-new clothing items including: cat ears, joggers, underwear, shorts, a skirt, a shirt and tie, striped dress, sleeveless shirts, and boots[/p][p]-fish tank item that can display up to 3 fish[/p][p]-insectarium item that can display up to 3 bugs[/p][p]-3 new wallpapers[/p][p] [/p]
Promise Ring
[p]One of the shops around town will now sell a special item called a Promise Ring.  Give it to an NPC you really care for and see how they react.  They might even have something to say when it comes time to leave town.[/p][p] [/p]
Revised Spirit Bathing Emotes
[p]The bathing emote has been revised to make bathing spirits’ happiness and mood clearer.  An arrow next to the emote indicates the direction a spirit’s happiness is moving and the emote itself shows the overall contentment level of the spirit.  Additionally, spirits whose Spirit Tome you’ve unearthed will show their season beneath their emote, making it easier to keep track of who belongs to what season.[/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p] [/p]
Appendix
[p]An Appendix has been added to the in-game menu, providing a very useful resource to refresh yourself on certain game mechanics.  Previously, some useful information only appeared in a brief text box pop-up, so the Appendix provides a place for you to re-read the information whenever you need it.[/p][p] [/p][p][/p]
Bug Fixes
[p]In addition to all of the items above, loads of bugs have been squashed in this coming update.  There remain a few elusive ones due to complex nature of the game but overall, the game is more stable than ever.  I appreciate all of the bug reports over the last couple of years and all of the patience granted to me in polishing the game.

[/p]
What’s Next?
[p]This update has been in the works since March and all of my focus has been on adding all of the new material and refining the game.  When it comes to updates, however, this may be the last that adds new content to the game.  I’ll continue to fix bugs to make Spirittea as great an experience as I can, but I feel like, 6 years later, I’ve finally achieved the experience I was going for. [/p][p]Not all of my original ideas made it into the game, and some design decisions were questionable, but I’ve learned so much from seeing this project through to completion.  I feel like I’ve grown as a designer, programmer, pixel artist, writer, and in so many other ways, due to all of the hats I was wearing. [/p][p]I’ve got some fresh ideas brewing for future projects and I hope you’ll join me when it comes time to bring them to life.  In the meantime, I’ll be balancing starting a new project with raising my son, and figuring out how all of that changes once my daughter arrives in November. [/p][p]My sincerest thanks to everyone who has played Spirittea and/or talked about it in one way or another.  I hope that it was a fun and memorable time.  And thank you to all of the fantastic members of the Spirittea community.  I’ve never met a more helpful and kind group of people. [/p][p] [/p][p]Take care.[/p][p] [/p][p]-The Cheesemaster[/p]
