Mission Objective: Beta
Welcome back, Mech pilots!
[p]We’re getting close to releasing a Steam demo, but before that we are opening a beta demo on itch.io to gather feedback and run broader hardware testing.[/p][p]If you’ve been curious about the game or waiting to see how everything fits together, then this beta is meant to give you a solid feel for the full experience.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
What’s in the beta demo?
[p]This beta introduces the opening of the procedural campaign, including:[/p]
 • [p]How missions connect across a campaign[/p]
 • [p]Pilot rank-ups and skill progression[/p]
 • [p]Early strategic decisions that carry forward[/p]
[p]It’s built to showcase the game’s core loop without spoiling later systems or late-game content (such as the rival empires, they’ll come in later).[/p][p][/p]
Why the beta is on itch.io
[p]Releasing this version on itch lets us:[/p]
 • [p]Collect early feedback to improve the game[/p]
 • [p]Test performance across a wide range of hardware and configurations[/p]
 • [p]Fix bugs and improve stability before the Steam demo goes live[/p]
[p]All of this directly feeds into making the Steam demo the best it can be.[/p][p][/p]
Your feedback matters
[p]Player feedback has already shaped Drop Command in big ways. Since the alpha demo, we’ve added: colourblind accessibility options, 360° turret rotation for tanks, and improved infantry survivability. [/p][p]If you played the earlier alpha demo, this beta goes well beyond the Hot Drop combat sandbox, introducing the campaign structure and progression that were missing before.[/p][p]We’re especially interested in feedback on campaign clarity and whether the early progression feels motivating. This is still a small-team project, and early feedback helps us decide what to focus on next.[/p][p][/p]
Steam demo coming soon
[p]A Steam demo is coming soon, once this beta phase helps us iron out issues and polish the experience.[/p][p]If you want to help shape what comes next, or just want an early look, please give the beta demo a try today: \[https://pillbuggames.itch.io/drop-command].[/p][p][/p]

We’ve been hard at work refining mechanics, expanding content, and ensuring every engagement feels like a proper battlefield command experience. Positioning, firepower, and tactical foresight make all the difference between victory and defeat.
Drop Command: Tactical Warfare at Its Finest
Built for those who love the challenge of commanding heavy war machines in battle, Drop Command blends mech piloting, squad tactics, and high-level strategic decision-making in a procedurally generated campaign spanning an entire star cluster.

 • Lead from the Front: Command squads of mechs, battle-armored infantry, and VTOLs in real-time tactical combat, where terrain, positioning, and combined-arms tactics determine survival.
 • Fight Across the Stars: Deploy across scalding deserts, lush tropical archipelagos, frozen wastelands, and other hostile alien landscapes, each requiring different tactical approaches.
 • Customize & Adapt: Outfit your command unit with modular loadouts, balancing mobility, heat management, armor, and firepower to match the mission at hand.
 • Rise to Command: Start as a lone warrior and ascend to battlefield commander, directing entire operations while still keeping your metal feet on the ground.

Every battle is a test of your tactical skill and piloting prowess. Can you outmaneuver the enemy, manage resources wisely, and command your units to victory?

Your support has been incredible, and wishlisting helps us tremendously! If you’re ready to take command, wishlist and follow the game on Steam today.

Updated Release Date

August Update

Greetings Mech Pilots, time for another Drop Command progress update!

Audio

Our biggest focus since the last update has been adding game audio. This includes a new soundtrack, weapon and combat SFX, and a combat computer voice. All Systems: Operational.

New Biomes

Introducing three new biomes to spice up combat across the star cluster:
 • Volcanic/Ashlands: a desolate wasteland with high heat and poor visibility from volcanic ashfall
 • Archipelago: an island paradise peaking above the waves of a water world
 • Megafauna Graveyard: ancient corpses of spaceborn megafauna litter the planets of the Hyades Cluster

As part of the Archipelago biome, we have added water to Drop Command. Units in water will have a much reduced movement speed, making them easy targets when caught out crossing a river. However, Mechs can sink heat much faster while submerged, so that entering water is a double edged sword.

Updated Launch Date

We are excited to announce we are close to release for Drop Command! We previously had a placeholder date of January 1st. Development has progressed to the point where we are close to the final stages, and we can confidently state our release plans. Keep your eyes to the sky, for Dropships inbound! We are updating the launch date to November 2025.

We are hard at work getting Drop Command ready, and I cannot wait to share more with you as we make more progress. For more updates, check out our YouTube channel, where we post devlogs and progress updates: @PillBugGames

From the Lightest Scout Mech to the Heaviest Assault Mech

June Update

Greetings Mech Pilots, time for a Drop Command progress update!

Our biggest focus since the last update has been adding game content, with a lot of time also spent polishing game feel.

New content includes: new weapons such as the Anti Missile Systems and Auto-Laser Turret, new pilotable units such as the Zorilla Light Mech and the Mantis Assault mech, and new planets and biomes.

We have also been adding functionality to the tactical map. The tactical map will allow for calling down reinforcements where you need them, for issuing general battlefield orders, and to request orbital bombardments.

For game feel, we've been sanding the rough edges of piloting giant war machines. We have implemented more responsive controls, juicier movement, and a free-look mode so you can look around your cockpit. As well, we have added visual effects polish, improved battlefield debris, cockpit UI polish, and plenty more.

The Zorilla Light Mech is the smallest, fastest flanker this side of the Hyades Star Cluster. It has a primary load-out of 4 Anti-Infantry Flamers, and a heavy duty Mech sized Gatling Gun. Ideal for scouting the battlefield, hunting infantry, and harassing the slower heavier units.

The Mantis Assault Mech on the other hand, is a towering behemoth of a Mech. A bastion of raw firepower with more armour plating than a dropship gangway. The primary load-out of this monster includes 2 Auto-Laser Turrets, 36 Unguided Missile Launchers, and 4 Light Plasma Cannons. The Mantis can hold its own against a small army. Or two.

There is still a ways to go before the demo is ready to launch, but every day we are getting closer! I hope you are as excited as I am for the future of Drop Command, and I cannot wait to share more with you in the coming months.
