There have been some gameplay adjustments for all characters as well as system mechanic tweaks – many of which will be revealed the day of the playtest. Are you even good at a game if you can’t post about it on social media? The team at Diesel Legacy is here to help your sense of accomplishment!

There will be a Player Ranking System (name pending) waiting for you in the NextFest Demo. Through this, you’ll be able to see where you are in comparison to your friends and the top players!

Dev Blog: Mechs, Minigames and Much More! (March 2024)

Good Morning Iron City!

The Diesel Legacy team has been hard at work on new features and modes, adding all new fighters, and polishing the existing content in the game. You’ll all be able to get your hands on it soon! We’ve got a lot to show off for today.

 • New Character Teaser
 • New Stage Select
 • Story Development & Minigames
 • Stage WIP Teasers
 • Diesel Legacy on the Road

Let's get right into it! How about starting off with a new character tease?!
New Character Teaser
Diesel Legacy's biggest newcomer will put the pedal to the metal.

This hulking playable character has a bit of a soft side, and a LOT of firepower. Keep an eye out on our socials for upcoming updates!
New Stage Select
It's fun to spin the wheel, just remember-- there are people waiting for you to play the actual game.

The dev team is always cleaning up the streets of the Iron City-- so why not add a spinning carousel? Choose your stage with style, or just leave it up to fate with random. The game will feature over 25+ stages and many variations on those themes!
Story Development
Surely, the scary dude in the plague doctor mask can be trusted!

The team has been hard at work creating a story gameplay for both casuals and hardcore fighting game/beat em up players. In the released version, you’ll be able to play both single player AND co-op-- both couch and online!

You’ll be able to choose any fighter for this mode, building into an overarching narrative, to discover the beauty ᵃⁿᵈ ᵈᶦʳᵗʸ ˢᵉᶜʳᵉᵗˢ of New Libertis, the Iron City.
Story Minigames
Ruby, no! Look out for the placeholder graphic! She can't hear us!

Tired of beating up people all day? Well then you’ll love some of story mode’s varied challenges. Destroy defenseless cars or race against the clock to deliver your parcels. These unique challenges are part of each character’s story mode. As always, keep an eye out for more info later!
Stage WIP Teasers
"Abandoned Floor" and "Tower Street"

There's already a ton of hand-created stages for Diesel Legacy, but take a look at what's upcoming! As in true Iron City fashion, these stages stretch out extremely wide-- giving you full access to the whole stage at any point. These two locations will be intregal to the story, stay tuned for more.
Diesel Legacy on the Road
We're also proud to announce that we're finally taking Diesel Legacy to a number of events (including fighting game majors) for 2024! We'll let you know which ones we'll be at soon. Come hang out with the devs, meet the community and perhaps win some prize money from our tournaments!
That's All, Folks!
The Iron City’s Future: Playtest 2 Summary

Thank you for helping us stress test Diesel Legacy in our latest playtest! We’ve been listening to everyone, and are proud to announce some upcoming additions and changes in the future.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1959140/Diesel_Legacy_The_Brazen_Age/

There’s a ton of fancy stuff in the works, but here are some that you can look forward to:
 • Redesigned Lobby System
 • Redone Interactive Menu System
 • New “Traditional” Menu System
 • Gameplay Balance

For additional characters and stages, keep an eye out on our upcoming devblogs and socials to be the first to find out what we’ve got planned.
Lobby Behavior
Lobbies will be going through a complete redesign, ensuring that you can always find a match whenever you want.

Many users have reported the inconsistency in being able to instantly find a match. The reality of the matter is that while there were matches going on, you wouldn’t be able to queue up unless an additional 3 players filled up another match.

With our upcoming updates, players can expect to be able to see a list of open lobbies and potentially join a queue while spectating another match (if the host allows queuing). players will also be able to substitute players for CPUs to be able to start a match early.

Another upcoming feature is that players will also be able to play nearly every mode in the game, while simultaneously searching for an online match. Once the match is over, you’ll seamlessly transfer back to the previous mode you were in.

When a mode is currently looking for players to fill, a pop-up for that mode will show, indicating that matches should be immediately joinable.

In addition, a quick match option will be available– finding the first available match within the various game modes.

For example, players can play in story mode, pause the game and set to search for a casual match, then go back to playing. Once the game finds a match, it’ll pause the game if you want to accept the match. If you accept the match, you’ll play in it until you’re done, and the game will drop you off right at the point you left story mode.
Menu System
We’ve received a lot of great feedback regarding our interactive menu system:
New players had issues finding and understanding the features of the game.
There was a general request for a traditional menu system.

During the playtest, we released a new update that took the main gameplay out of the basement and put it right in front of where the player spawns.

In future updates, we will continue to organize options into more accessible formats. We will also include miniature descriptions of every menu option to help players understand what each option is capable of.

For example, we are considering consolidating all online options into a singular “online” choice that will spawn off into all the modes. Upon highlighting this option, a description will show that this choice includes Matchmaking, Lobby Meet-Up and more.

For those looking for different menu options, Diesel Legacy will include both the interactive Juice Bar and a traditional pick-and-choose menu, choosable at the title screen. This traditional menu option will allow players to immediately pick their desired modes.

More on the original interactive menu system, we are planning on doing more for a social experience, but more will come soon.
Disconnections
A few consistent cases of disconnecting were found during the playtest. The cause of these were either from desyncing or players intentionally quitting, causing the entire game to come to a halt.

While there was a playtest update that allowed the game to continue, there will be additional fixes for disconnects to ensure players will have a 1:1 experience from offline to online.
Gameplay Balance/Features
While the game was out for only a limited amount of time, we will be making slight changes to moves that are currently underutilized and slight changes to moves that lock down opponents in the prototype 2v2 three-lane landscape of the game.

We have been listening to feedback, and want to make sure characters will be able to shine even further in their own unique archetypes. Future content pieces may hint to what some of these changes will be.
Looking Ahead
The future of the Iron City is bright! We’re working with online FGC scenes to build the game that YOU want to play, however you want to play it. Casual, competitive– no matter who you are, we want you to love the game.

Our team will be providing occasional updates via a devblog that will highlight more of what you can look forward to.

Patch Notes: Major Quality of Life Updates

Your taxpayer dollars are going to work in the Iron City!

We've updated Diesel Legacy with a major patch addressing UI/UX changes, continuing gameplay after disconnections, a vast amount of additional gameplay mechanics for ghosts and gameplay tweaks.

See below for more details!
Update notes:
• Redistributed the icons in Juice to place the online icons near the start; no more basement.
 • Single-person disconnects now don't end the game, or the meetup; instead, the character is KO'd, but the game continues.
 • Facing direction lock no longer counts players in different lanes as "close" to you; your character will remain facing the same opponent until another opponent enters your lane, or you enter their lane.
 • Ghost Buster (burst) and Ghost Guard (parry) are now possible immediately after being KO'd, rather than having to wait for yourself to hit the ground.
 • Ghost Buster no longer unalives your ghost forever, instead it reduces the maximum ghost HP to 50% and has the same recharge period as running out of HP in any other way; however, you still can only use it once.
 • There are now 3 types of Ghost Buster depending on how much health the ghost has: 80-100% starts up in 6 frames, wall sticks, and is plus on block; 40-79% starts up in 12 frames and is slightly negative on block; and 1-39% starts up in 18 frames and is pretty easily punishable on block. All of them scale damage to minimum and place the opponent near the end of any juggle limits.
 • You can now Ghost Buster when your teammate is in blockstun, but it cannot produce the fastest version of the move, only the second-fastest.
 • Ghosts heal more slowly when their teammate is in hitstun or blockstun.
 • Ghost Vengeance (assist special attacks) are possible sooner after parrying, and Ghost Buster is always possible if the other person is hit, even while a parry ghost is out.
 • Fixed various bugs related to dashing: you can now jump out of your dash after a superflash, e.g. vs Rotwang's Teppichband (command grab Meltdown super); removed the ability to convert a straight dash to a lane-change dash by pressing the direction after the dash has already begun, so that crouching attacks can be done more easily by immediately pressing Down and attacking directly after dashing.
 • Redid the button config screen, should make much more sense now.
 • For clarity, the button tooltip at the bottom the screen now alternates between displaying keyboard, gamepad, and in-game button icons.
