Dev Diary | Puma Region Sneak Peek

Hello, survivors!

It's been a couple of months since the game was released in Early Access and you started your journey in the world of 16th-century explorers. We know you're waiting to continue the adventures, and we've been working hard to develop the upcoming third region as soon as possible. Today’s the day for a little sneak peek of what you might expect there (including some atmospheric screenshots).

The third region is a tough and challenging place where you'll go in the footsteps of the lost expeditions. Be prepared for various challenges whether it will be ancient puzzles, dangerous animals, unwelcoming weather conditions, or heavy-going pathways. A reward for a skillful survivor is iron deposits hidden in the depth of the Iron Island that will open numerous crafting blueprints for some of the finest items in the game. Looking forward to upgrading to a good iron axe, aren’t you?

The Iron Island with inexhaustible lava streams was a home for one of the tribes before most of their homes were taken by the sea. They gathered valuable metal and coal and built impressive temples connected to the system of caves that hold great treasures. That's probably where members of your crew are camping too.

Deep into the sea, over the thick fog and dangerous riffs lies the mysterious Foggy Island covered with shipwreck. Some say it is impossible to leave it. Certainly, there must be something of value and rumors could be just talks of some unlucky sailors.

Cliff Island is a labyrinth of rocky passages populated by hostile creatures and full of valuable resources to gather. Be as careful as you can as passes between cliffs could be deceiving and treasures could be heavily guarded.

Are you a good sailor? To move between the islands, you’ll have to bypass all those reefs, which can be tricky. At least, be sure to stack some ship repair kits. Never too many of those.

That's it for today! We hope that you are eager to experience this content that is releasing in the first half of August. In a couple of weeks, we're also planning to tell you more about one of the upcoming features — traps, so stay tuned! And once again, we want to thank you for your constant support and interest in the game!

Patch 1317 | Building Bug Fix, Balance Changes, and More

Hello, survivors!

We've got a patch for you that should make your experience with the game more enjoyable. It includes some important improvements, mainly the fix that should resolve the modules' demolition issue. Please try it and tell us whether it worked on your constructions that you were not able to destroy before.

We also balanced some features in Hard and Very Hard difficulties making them more challenging. Thanks to our hardcore players for expressing the need for these tweakings!

It’s been very exciting to see so many people appreciating what we've done, leaving reviews, making content, and spending hours and hours in the game. Right now we continue working on bug fixing and improving the game, while also preparing the third region to be able to deliver it to you as soon as possible.

Enjoy the new update!
NEW FEATURES AND POLISHING
• Added a tutorial slide for cartography. It’s a very important and helpful in-game feature, and we tried to explain how it works so that players would use it more.
• Simple resources (flowers, fruits) are now collected instantly.
• Light from Torch prohibits insects from biting the character.
• Added Auto-setting of kindles in the campfire menu.
• Added information in the interface about possible upgrades for machines.
• Added hand animations when dragging items.
• Changed names of some items.
• Improved visuals of buildings’ layouts.
• Improved visuals of house modules’ markers on HUD.
• Added ability to switch to "empty hands" even if all weapon slots are occupied.
• Improved quality of art asserts on POI
BALANCE CHANGES
• Balanced Hard and Very Hard difficulties: reinforced animals, less weather protection from equipment, less weight bonus from backpacks, faster accumulation of weather statuses.
• Increased Solar Distiller's water production, which, let’s be frank, was a bit small before.
• Added more puffball mushrooms in caves. Be sure to complete that survival task on cooking Mushroom Soup now!
• Short-eared dog goes on the attack earlier. When it sees the character and starts barking, it now waits a little less before charging to attack, so keep that in mind if you want to fight it (or run away, no one will judge).
• Balanced the weight of flasks, so there would be the motivation to upgrade them.
BUGFIXES
• Added a fix to disassembling house module issues. If you have some modules in your house that you couldn’t dismantle due to the supporting issue, you should be able to destroy this crookedly built part of the house and rebuild it.
• During sleep, more health was restored than it should have been.
• Fixed character’s fainting after loading a save.
• Fixed Jackal Fangs not dropping from Jackals.
• Fixed Solar Distiller not working in a locked area.
• Fixed Solar Distiller not generating water while the player was in another area.
• Fixed “Home” status not appearing in large houses.
• Items were stuck inside the stone textures when dropped off.
• Fixed vitals decrease when loading a save.
• Fixed Buffalos keep attacking after the character fainted.
• Forge can now be placed under the roof.
• Fixed soaked status not disappearing after fainting.
• Fixed "dead zones" in the inventory when moving resources into cells.
• Fixed “fps rate” and vsync conflict in game settings
• Fixed the places where the character could get stuck in ancient scaffolding.
• Fixed Dorado Carcass falling to the bottom when dropped.
• Fixed some localizations’ issues.
• Other minor fixes
WHAT’S NEXT?
Next up is the Puma region where you'll be able to continue following the story of the Santa Maria crew and the Fountain of Youth. The content update introducing this region is postponed for the first half of August — we’re sincerely sorry about the delay but additional time is needed to properly test all the new content and features and catch as many bugs as possible before releasing. We've been working hard in order to deliver some quality stuff to you, hopefully, you'll enjoy the next portion of adventures!

Patch 1291 | Animals Respawn Fix, Timings Tweaks, and More

Hello, survivors!

It’s time for another hotfix, in which we tried to cover most of the reported issues so far. Of course, it doesn’t include everything that has been brought to our attention, but some nasty bugs and quality-of-life improvements need more time and resources to be implemented, so we’ll be addressing them in the next patches.

As a special request from our QA guys: please continue to report issues you encounter! The whole team is eager to crush bugs and make the game a pleasant experience for you and new players to come.

With that out of the way, enjoy the full list of fixes and changes below!
MAIN BUGFIXES
• Fixed the issue with animals not respawning while the character is in another region. Now animals can do that without you monitoring them.
• Fixed some problems with construction demolition. We understand that currently house building may cause some frustration. Please note that further improvements are still in progress.
• Fixed problems with timings stopping for those who have spent over 60 days in the game. Stopping time would be a nice superpower, but we’ll do without it in the game.
• Cart mockups can now be moved/dismantled. Time to get rid of all those accidentally placed mockups!
• Fixed the issue with the skinning skill allowing to collect more than one loot item. Receiving two head trophies from a jackal was nice, but a bit unrealistic.
• Fixed Excellent Tanner Workbench not giving copper ore after deconstruction.
• Fixed the issue with 2 shells dropping from one tortoise. Those mutant creatures are out!
• laughs in Krang*
• Fixed the issue with machines taking more water than specified in the recipe.
• Fixed bugs with disappearing markers on maps.
• Fixed the issue with the ‘To item’ button not working in the Survival tasks menu.
• Fixed the issue with date palms not restoring the amount of sap after the game session is restarted.
• Fixed the issue with Stone Hammer that could be ignited. Don’t try to imagine it.
• Fixed the description of the Water Distiller: it produces 5 units of water per hour.
• Fixed the issue with Hut Made of Leaves not protecting from the sun.
• Fixed the issue with the Cartographer's Tower not adding enough advantage to mapping.
• Fixed the issue with the character gaining experience crafting only one item from the stack (when using machines).
• Fixed the issue with experience points not counting for the shooting skill after a successful crossbow shot.
• Fixed a bug with Leather Hood and Hood with Copper Plates having the same durability.
• Fixed the issue with drying skill not reducing time to dry food.
• Fixed the issue with the Charcoal pile, Pillar, Half Pillar, and Primitive Oil Lamp not giving resources after disassembling them.
• Fixed the issue with an incomplete Juice Collector collecting Juice.
• Fixed the issue with Bandolier and Belt not automatically being taken into Inventory after losing durability.
• Fixed the canopy layout protecting from rain. You have to fully build it now for that.
• Fixed the issue with Palm Juice Collector window not having the Drink button.
• Fixed the issue of losing clear water in Improved Tanner Workbench after upgrading it.
• Fixed the issue with no information about collectible items appearing on the gamepad.
BALANCE IMPROVEMENTS
• Decreased gathering time for a number of resources and food. No more spending the whole day collecting flowers!
• Increased the number of basic resources in the nodes (small sticks, small stones, massive stones, obsidian).
• Increased regeneration speed for a number of resources in the nodes. Yes, including copper!
• Tweaked crafting timings for a number of resources, food, and house modules.
• Changed the number of resources given after disassembling some modules. Now you’ll get 100% of resources returned.
• The initial amount of water in Natives’ water storages is increased.
• Cartography is faster now: the mapping time depends on the mapping radius.
ONBOARDING IMPROVEMENTS
• Added a third pile of stones within the range of the Cartographer Tree near the starting area.
• Moved one stone deposit within the range of the Cartographer Tree near the starting area.
• Added a broken rainwater collector near the grotto. It can be disassembled for resources.
• Improved quests on the Island of Hope:
1. Changed the quest for finding a rope from the ship (to climb the Cartographer Tree) to crafting a rope
2. Added a step for waiting until the dark in the ‘Find Spyglass’ quest
3. Added a quest on finding Obsidian and crafting an item from it
OTHER TWEAKS
• Reduced block response time. That being said, we are thinking of making more serious changes to the combat system in general.
• Made access to the Catamaran boxes a bit easier.
• Fixed several places where the character could get stuck.
• Changed the location of Cartographer Trees on Copper Island so that all 3 copper mines can be mapped easily from them.
• Added a hydration forecast for drinking from flasks.
• Various visual improvements.
• Minor performance fixes.

Patch 1267 | Saves Issue Fix, Balance Improvements, and More

Hello, survivors!

Huge thanks to everyone who has reported an issue, shared suggestions, and sent us screenshots/logs. Today’s minor update brings a number of requested fixes and tweaks to existing features.

Please note that some of the reported issues need more time for reworking until they can be implemented, so if something is not addressed in this hotfix, it doesn't mean that we're not working on it. After today’s release, we immediately start preparing for the next patch.

And now to the good stuff!
SAVES FIX
Some players have encountered a very unpleasant issue with being unable to load their saves. We’re sincerely sorry about it. We took measures for this problem not to appear again. After this update, you may see this save that you had problems opening before (it will have an exclamation mark). If you click on it, the window will open with the ability to load an earlier save. Just pick the one, open it and it should work fine.

Again, we are truly sorry for this bug and the inconvenience it brought to our players.
MAIN FIXES
• Animals (most importantly, those good ol’ snakes) don’t block harvesting processes when they are too far away. But they are still able to attack if you come too close to them, so be careful.
• More rocks! We added more rock piles on the island of Hope and on Copper Island. Also, you can now track them with a special marker on the resource map.
• It takes less time to light a fire after a failed attempt: the time of the next attempt is reduced by 60%. Burn them all!
• Added smaller rotation steps for layouts, so machines and buildings can be easily placed parallel to the walls of the house. We dedicate this fix for the sake of perfectionism.
• Carry more! The weight of all equipped items is not counted in the overall inventory weight anymore. Belts and bandoliers are now even more useful for giving those additional weight-free slots.
• No more accidental destruction of a flask when drinking! A confirmation pop-up is now shown when trying to destroy a flask. And you will now get resources back when disassembling coconut and bamboo flasks, as well as a charcoal pile.
• Destroying a badly constructed sloped roof should not be an issue anymore.
• Fixed a bug with the carpentry workbench not accepting logs, if the previous process was incorrectly canceled.
• The solar distiller doesn’t work at night anymore. Had to follow some physics laws here, sorry.
• Tweaked the sounds the character made when receiving a sunburn status. Too much moaning, sounded a bit creepy.
• Steam Cloud saves are now available. However, it is a Steam feature with some known issues, so use it cautiously.
BALANCE FIXES
• Added a slot for one additional item to take from the ship on Very Easy mode
• Increased carrying capacities for Hard and Very Hard modes
• Fixed resources received from disassembling the mapping tower
• The charcoal pile is not automatically ignited after being built
• Fixed descriptions for islands concerning the location of certain resources (horseweed and anteaters)
• Tweaked damage received from falling
• Fixed description for the water distiller (numbers are now correct)
• Changed the description for harpoons (added information on the type of fish)
• Increased shark HP
• Decreased repair requirements for some items
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
• Fixed dock boundaries
• Added a tooltip for the gamepad on the resource-gathering page
• Added a check that there is no obstacle when resurrecting near a bed
• Numerous UX/UI improvements
• Numerous visual improvements
• Minor performance fixes
• Localization edits
