Hotfix 1371 | Saves Issue Fix, Bats’ Tuning, and More

Hello, Fountain Seekers!

Hope you are enjoying your adventures in the Puma region! In the meantime, we released a small patch fixing some of the most important issues reported so far. Thank you for your numerous and thorough feedback! It will help us make the game more pleasant for you and other players to come.
Here is what we've addressed in this patch:
• Added Water Tank to Heart with a Pot on Schooners
 • Added a possibility to craft a Saber with a Saber Blade
 • Fixed the issue when it was impossible to load some saves
 • Tuned bats' aggro radius; reduced the number of bats in a group
 • Fixed Hydrilla giving Halymenia resources in the Bird region
 • Muted weather sounds inside volcano, temple, and underwater temple in the Puma region
 • Tuned Great Jackal’s behavior and animations
 • Reduced requirements in baits
 • Some house upgrade fixes
 • Localization fixes
 • Other minor balance and visual improvements
Known issues
• If you take a Set of tools from a crate near Foggy Island, it will go to Inventory, not the ‘Special resources’ slot. You must drop it on the ground and take it again, so it goes to the right place.
 • The Throwing book that can be found on Iron Island doesn't open the second throwing effect.

Please, continue to report any issues you encounter with the game!

Captain’s Trail Update | Puma Region, Iron, Second-Tier Housing, and More

Hello, Fountain Seekers!

Here is the Captain's Trail update with a whole range of new content, improvements, and bug fixes. So, grab your pickaxe, and a couple of coconuts for the road, and sail to the new lands!

Hot steam bursting from the ground, chilling fog embracing old shipwrecks, occasional howls echoing off the rocks...

Do you dare to venture into the Puma region and brave its challenges?

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Puma Region
Welcome to the Puma region! In these unfamiliar lands, mastering the knowledge of its conditions and inhabitants is essential if you want to survive. Strong wind chills to the bone and lowers the chances of igniting. Large pumas and fast bats only await to wound and poison every wanderer. Dangerous cliffs and shipwrecks trouble sailing between the islands. So, be ready to improvise, adapt, and overcome to unravel the story of your missing crew members!
Second-Tier Housing
Be sure to gather as many Iron Tree Branches in the Puma region as possible, if you plan to upgrade your house. Second-tier houses are not only a joy to look at, but also provide Improved Home Comfort status and protection from cold compared to first-tier houses. Moreover, your body fights illnesses and your energy is restored faster when you're in it. One more thing: no holes in the walls, in case some creepy tortoise decides to watch you.
Spanish Schooner
It is enough to build a schooner only for its looks, but it also has increased durability, speed, and storage containers compared to all other vessels. What is more, each schooner has a high mast that you can climb to observe and map the area for sea resources.

Please note that schooners are significantly bigger compared to all other sea vessels in the game so far, so you may need to rebuild/move your docks a bit so it is possible to moor.
Iron
Copper is no longer the highest-tier material in the game. Use iron ingots to craft the sturdiest tools, equipment, and that nice-looking schooner you saw above. Further adventures call for upgrades!
Great Jackal
A new challenge that may make you finally use that block feature from the tutorial - Great Jackal. It is the first boss in the game, with minions and a fearsome arena decorated with huge bones. Be sure to bring all your best equipment and weapons there!

What is the best in every boss fight? That’s right, the prize. After killing Great Jackal, in its carcass, you’ll find a key (those predators would eat literally anything!) to the chest with Macuahuitl, the elite Natives' melee weapon. You won’t find its blueprint anywhere else.

Important note: fighting Great Jackal is optional, so if you don't feel strong enough to face it (or you’re following a pacifist path), you can just stay away from that ominous and dreary part of the Craggy Island and let those wolfies live in peace and keep their treasure.
Traps
If you saw our Dev Diary post on Traps recently, you know that this update also brings traps as a new method of acquiring animal resources. No more direct fighting to get those precious tendons - just prepare a bait, set a trap, and wait a bit!
New Skills & Perks
Survival abilities of the fourth rank are open for upgrades! Moreover, there are new survival tasks to complete, and get additional Survival Points to spend on learning them. Feel like doubling your Concentration mode radius or unlocking the Bird Potion recipe?

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger! A thorough exploration of the Puma region will also reward you with new skill books.
New Content/Improvements
• Instant gathering and regeneration of natural resources, including mushrooms and underwater resources. A regular supply of Mushroom Soup, yum!
 • Hint Catalog. It’s okay not to know something - just check the Journal tab with all the tutorial slides collected.
 • New crafting recipes to keep you busy, including machine upgrades, food, iron weapons, and tools.
 • New animal decor set. You already want that Great Jackal trophy on your wall, don’t you?
 • Quicker campfire ignition from torches. You asked - we delivered!
 • Slowing down instead of stopping when overloaded. It may take you an eternity to bring all those 32 pieces of iron ore to your camp, but you’ll get there.
 • Improved Smelter to produce copper and iron and visual changes to the old one.
 • Useful crates and barrels can be found in the new region, so explore as much as possible and thrive!
New Languages
We added Spanish and Japanese as supported languages, expanding the number of localizations for the game and making it accessible to more players worldwide. More languages to come in the future!
Polishing and Balancing
• Added confirmation when destroying all items
 • Lowered graphics preset for Steam Deck
 • Added map markers for underwater resources
 • Increased skunk attack range
 • Jaguar in the cave on the Windy Island became stronger
 • Added ability to build on flat rocks in the sea
 • Replacement of materials on buildings and machines
 • Improved volumetric lighting in the distance
 • Prohibited the removal of the cannon barrel from the Santa Maria ship
 • Banned finishing a book when it's dark
 • Improved display of paper drawings
 • Improved crossbow speed and accuracy
 • Predators run away after an attack without turning on the spot
 • Optimization of jellyfish
Bugfixes
• Fixed bugs with house modules compatibility
 • Fixed bug with jackals stopping to revive in some places
 • Fixed several places where you could get stuck
 • Fixed vitals rolling back when loading a save
 • Fixed bug with multiple collectors that could be installed on a single palm tree
 • Fixed work time resetting in some machines
 • Fixed bug with Clay and Egg Ointment not requiring a tool
 • Fixed disassembling of Cart and Improved Cart
 • Fixed bug with negative status not taken into account when calculating vitals
 • Fixed bug with not getting home comfort status inside a house
 • Fixed Concentration mode not illuminating Stone Cutter
 • Fixed shark trophy not requiring a tool to get it
 • Fixed the bug with the slider when selecting the lowest item on a gamepad
 • Fixed bug with foundation modules that could not be disassembled
 • Fixed bug with small sticks spawning vertically
 • Various visual improvements
 • Sound improvements

As always, we wish to thank you all for being a part of the development with us. Your feedback has helped shape the game and your bug reports have been invaluable in tracking down some tough-to-reproduce issues. Feel free to report any problem you encounter with the game!

We hope you enjoy this update and are excited for what's still to come!

Dev Diary | Traps

Hello, survivors!
Simfest is here!
Until July 24, Survival: Fountain of Youth participates in this year's Simfest, an event full of amazing sim games. It's an excellent chance to find some hidden gems of the simulation genre and add them to your library!
And now, how about some light Friday reading?
Tired of chasing those chickens? Not confident enough to face a jaguar? With the upcoming update, we're introducing traps, an ultimate way to get animal resources without brandishing a spear and getting hurt. Although, you’ll need some patience. And a bait.
It's a Trap!
The trap has a range. If an animal's spawn area falls within the trap's range, that animal may be trapped. There are four types of traps: the higher its tier, the more various animals it can capture, from sneaky crabs to scary pumas.
What are the chances?
The chance of triggering is checked once a day and is calculated depending on various factors: the type of trap, the type of animal it is set to catch, how long ago the trap has been set, etc. The trap didn’t catch anything? Check it the next day!
Don't forget the bait!
Every trap needs a certain bait to lure an animal you’re hunting for. Want to know how to catch a jackal with some petals? You catch a chicken with a couple of sage flowers, and then a jackal — with a chicken’s carcass.

The trap is automatically marked on the map with an icon. On hover, it will also show the radius of the trap and what animal areas it covers.
One at a time
Catching an animal in a trap does not affect the number of animals in the area. And with no live animals around, the trap can still catch one. One more important thing: in one area, you can only catch one animal at a time, no matter how many traps are there.

The trap can only be triggered if it is not within the player's line of sight. No way to cheat the game here, even if you hide really-really well.

We hope that you enjoyed this little guide on traps and you're eager to try them when the time comes, and it is coming already in about two weeks. If you have questions about traps, the upcoming region, or anything else, bring them in the comments!
