News Update + New Game Announcement
📢 Dev Update: A Message to Tomb Explorer Fans + New Game Announcement
Hey Tomb Explorer fans —
It’s been a couple months since our last update. After more than 8 months of continuous updates, polish, and new content, we can confidently say that Tomb Explorer VR is a completely different game than it was at launch. Many of you have noticed too — as reflected in reviews — It now stands as a full release-quality experience—aside from some ongoing development of the in-game save system, as requested by the community post launch."
But let’s talk about the reality behind the scenes.
🎯 The State of Early Access & PCVR
Early Access was once about supporting cool ideas in development, but now it’s treated as a guarantee of polished, AAA-quality games — even from tiny indie teams. These expectations are not sustainable, especially for PCVR developers. Gamers are just not investing anymore to help build something.
And here’s the hard truth:
Tomb Explorer VR makes almost no money.
We’re just two indie devs, self-funded, building games out of love for PCVR. Despite almost no algorithmic or influencer support (unless you're sponsored), we’ve delivered:
🔹 15+ PC quality maps
🔹 AAA visuals & new VR physics tech
🔹 Various Weapons + Tools [ Bows / Pistols / Bull Whips / Fire Torches ]
🔹 Full soundtrack
🔹 Tons of enemies, traps & puzzles
🔹 Two bosses
🔹 A complete story campaign with cinematic dialogue maps
That’s far more than most Early Access VR titles, which often launch with one, two or three levels max, government funded studios with multiple team members and then iterate post-success. We’re old-school — we build first, then release. That was our flaw.
💡 What’s Next?
We’re adapting. To survive, we’ve split efforts:
👷‍♂️ One of us is still working on Tomb Explorer VR updates - [ gradual integration of per level in-game save system + new content ]
🎮 The other has built something new: The Descent VR
And don’t worry — Tomb Explorer VR is NOT abandoned.
In fact, we’ve got a big update and sale coming this May!
We’ve been on Steam for over five years, and every game we’ve released has gotten long-term support — more than we can say for some bigger studios.
⚠️ A Quick But Important Note:
Lately, we’ve seen suspicious negative reviews — new accounts with single reviews, often arriving during sales using cheap currency conversions to make one off reviews, likely linked to bad actors who’ve previously harassed our brand over the years in reviews, forums, and discord.
It’s a known tactic in the already brutal PCVR market, where Steam’s algorithm gives little support to small indie VR devs building EA Games.
If you’ve enjoyed the game, please consider leaving a review. It helps fight back and makes a real difference for us.
🔦 Now Announcing: The Descent VR
Built solo by one of us (with some help from the other), The Descent VR is a tighter, darker horror adventure. It’s much smaller than Tomb Explorer, but packed with atmosphere, tension, and mystery along with the high quality you expect from our games.
