EA Update 9: The Big Relic Overhaul!

[p]Hello everyone!

We're back with a huge wave of balance changes and fixes, in what will be known as...

[/p]
🏆The Big Relic Overhaul Update!
[p]
For a long time, we've wanted to make underused relics more viable, and we finally got the chance! This update reworks over 25 relics, making them easier to use, more fun, and generally more rewarding. We also adjusted the rarity of many relics, mostly downgrading them so the relic pool feels more diverse and more accessible during your runs. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We're always looking for ways to keep the game fresh and interesting, and the next area we see great potential is enemies and mobs. Expect redesigns, new mechanics, and a few fresh modifiers coming in the near future!
[/p][p][/p]
🖌️New Art for Areas, Events, and More!
[p]
The new background animations are here! ...well, we teased a preview in the last update, but this time all events have received brand-new art and animations. We also adjusted some issues with backgrounds in Areas 2 and 3, and fixed certain events showing the wrong background art. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]But there's even more: several menus have been revamped, including boards, the finish-turn button, dice shadows, and a few special slots.[/p][p] [/p][p]Also, we squeezed in a handful of non-relic–related balance changes and bugfixes for good measure. If you want to dive deep, let's me show you the absolute unit of a changelog we got ready for you...[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
🗒️ Full Changelog for Build 102.0f2 (4.2.6)
Q&A Time with the Frog Reporter and Summer Sale Discount!
🎤 The Frog Reporter is back with a special episode: it's Q&A time!
[p][/p][p]In this latest video, our intrepid reporter answers community-submitted questions about Die in the Dungeon, covering everything from game development and design decisions to deep lore, character trivia… and even the frogs’ favorite food!? 🐸🥗 [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]Prefer reading over watching? We’ve got you covered! A full transcript will be posted at the end of this post. [/p][p][/p][p][/p]
💸 Die in the Dungeon is now part of the Steam Summer Sale!
[p][/p][p]That's right, the game is currently on discount during the Steam Summer Sale![/p][p]There's no better time to jump in, whether you’re just starting your dungeon-crawling journey or returning to discover all the new features we’ve added since launch.[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Tell your friends, your family, and your frogs: the dungeon is awaiting newcomers![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
🤔 Q&A Transcript
[p][/p][p]1. How’s the "J" in Jaun pronounced?[/p][p]It doesn’t matter, because everyone calls me Juan anyway.[/p][p]Just kidding, it’s pronounced with a Spanish “J” (known as jota in Spanish). Think: jalapeño.[/p][p][/p][p]2. What’s your favorite color?[/p][p]- Jaun: Orange[/p][p]- Alarts: Black[/p][p][/p][p]3. Will there be other pets/companions to get?[/p][p]Definitely! We love the two cute critters already in the game and are excited to add a few more. We already have some ideas for new pets that will accompany our frogs on their journeys through the dungeon.[/p][p]We’re also working on one related to a very special thing happening in August, stay tuned...[/p][p][/p][p]4. When will we get a pet Croissantpillar?[/p][p]Croissantpillars appear cute, but they’re actually incredibly hard to tame. They’re quite dangerous and usually only listen to their creator.[/p][p]That said, there are rumors of a particularly docile flavor of Croissantpillar hidden in the dungeon, even we haven’t found it yet.[/p][p][/p][p]5. What are the three playable characters’ favorite foods?[/p][p]- Cinder: Plain bread. Though she used to love lily-pad salads…[/p][p]- Lisver: Spicy pineapple pico de gallo (served on tacos, of course).[/p][p]- Mango: Anything sweet! Chocolate chip cookies, croissants, cheesecake, crème brûlée…[/p][p][/p][p]6. Why was Cinder’s name changed from CLASSIC?[/p][p]Actually, Cinder’s name was never revealed in CLASSIC. During development, many players wanted to know the frog’s name, so we added an easter egg:[/p][p]There’s a question in the Trivia Spider event that asks about your name, but it’s just a joke, since all answers are marked correct.[/p][p]So no, Rana (or Frogget the First) is not Cinder’s original name, but it’s a cute name nonetheless![/p][p][/p][p]7. When are we getting a more proper story to the game, if there is any?[/p][p]There’s already a lot of lore written for Die in the Dungeon, and we plan to introduce it gradually and subtly.[/p][p]This helps us ensure each new piece fits the larger story.[/p][p]You, the player, will discover clues about what happened, and why you’re in the dungeon in the first place.[/p][p][/p][p]8. Is Mango based on a particular amphibian?[/p][p]A frog, duh! 🙂[/p][p]But seriously, the closest real-world frog would probably be the Burmese Squat Frog.[/p][p][/p][p]9. What is the Potion Mimic’s favorite food?[/p][p]Careless adventurers who try to drink from it without realizing it’s a mimic![/p][p][/p][p]10. Does Lisver have the red thingy on both sides of his face?[/p][p]It’s a scar...[/p][p]No, it’s not on both sides, and he really doesn’t like to talk about it.[/p][p][/p][p]11. How do the devs plan all the development and changes?[/p][p]We already have several features and systems in mind that we want to add, each with a timeframe listed on our roadmap.[/p][p]However, the schedule can change if something urgent comes up that needs to be addressed first.[/p][p][/p][p]12. If you were in the dungeon, how long do you think you’d survive?[/p][p]Seeing a Flyfant in real life would probably be a very traumatic experience…[/p][p]So yeah, not long.[/p][p][/p][p]And finally, a bonus answer for the readers![/p][p][/p][p]13. When are we getting bigger dice?[/p][p]We’ve always wanted to add bigger dice with more faces, but they require a lot of time to balance properly, especially with all the different boards, character abilities, relics, etc.[/p][p]For now, we’re focused on polishing the current game and preparing for version 1.0. After that, we’ll experiment with how bigger dice feel in play.[/p]

EA Update 8: Summer Is Coming!

Hello everyone!

Summer break is nearly here, and while the ATICO team is gearing up for a bit of rest, we couldn’t leave without dropping a fresh patch first. So grab a Watermelon Slice and let's dive in!
🎲 Difficulty D7 + Two New Relics
Any veteran frogs over here? Your next challenge has arrived! D7 difficulty adds a brutal twist:

- Scarcer healing. Fewer opportunities to recover HP, so time to treasure those Heal Dice!

To compensate a little, you will receive a brand new Legendary relic when completing this challenge: Lazarus Heart! And what about the other relic? Feast your eyes:

Grinding Leaf introduces a new mechanic: permanent modifiers! These modifiers persist between battles, letting you snowball power across an entire run. Big thanks to youtuber TimeToGrind for the collaboration!
🧪 Potion Labs Winner!
Our Potion events are officially over! In the first event, players (and testers) raced to unlock the Grand Brewmaster achievement... filling all spots on the leaderboards in less than 24 hours!

On the other hand, the potion labs were brewing with ideas in the past weeks, with more than 100 very original entries! Among the 10 most upvoted, it was hard to pick only one to implement into the game. After much bubbling and tasting, the winner is…

The Ghost Super Potion is a powerful, build-up blast that will make even big mosquitos shiver in fear!
🎮 Controller Support in [beta]
The first controller-ready build is live on a beta branch for anyone who wants an early peek!
How to opt-in on the [beta] branch:
1. Right-click Die in the Dungeon in your Steam library → Properties.
 2. Open the Betas tab.
 3. Enter the code "enterditdbeta" and select the branch.

A new "Controller Support" category has been added to the in-game feedback panel, please report anything wrong or wonky. We're aiming to gather notes and ship a polished, default-branch build later this summer.
🗒️ Full Changelog
• Added full controller support with graphical input prompts.
 • Added D7 difficulty level.
 • Added new relic: Lazarus Heart → Every time you overheal, add the overhealed amount to the value of this relic. At the start of the turn, deal that value as damage to all enemies.
 • Added new relic Colorful Leaf → Add your healing to this relic's value. If 40 or more at the start of battle, gain 1 permanent positive modifier.
 • Added new potion Super Ghost Potion → Deal 3+(1d4) to the target enemy for each enemy killed after obtaining this potion.
 • Added "uses" indicator to relic UI.
 • Added new term tooltip: Permanent Modifier.

 • Modified relic Tungsten Hand → Once per turn, you can unlock 1 dice on the board.
 • Modified relic Promo Ticket description → Next forge will include two free relics. This relic will be discarded after use.
 • Modified potion reward logic to avoid offering two potions from the same family (e.g. Minor + Major Health).

 • Modified potions price in the shop (now reduced to base 3/7/11).
 • Fixed loading screen visible in the background on certain resolutions.

 • Fixed new runs incorrectly inheriting rewards from the previous run if you quit during tile loading.
 • Fixed softlock on Obtain Curse reward when player already has all curses.
🔮 What’s Next and a Merch Poll!
That’s all for today, but plenty is simmering for the summer: new enemies, brand-new mechanics, the long-awaited Endless Mode, and more! We want to iterate on every feature to make sure they are just right, and we make it with the help of our amazing testers (thank you guys!). If you’d like to join that crew, hop into our Discord!

But there's not only testing on our server! We also run regular polls, events, and sneak-peeks there. This is our current question to the community:
