New Dawn - Release Date

Greetings, Survivors!

New Dawn, the update that will change Under A New Sun in almost every way and determine its further path into the future, will release on July 22nd.

The originally announced second quarter cannot be fully met, for which I'm truly sorry. Although I believe it's worth the wait — whether you're looking forward to official co-op support, new discoveries, exploration, sailing with a huge ship, story elements, or something else — this update has something for everyone!

Controller gameplay improvements, electrical switches and more (v0.7.2)

Survivors,

a new update is now available.

This update enhances several aspects of playing with controller, making the gameplay smoother and adding features that were previously only accessible with a keyboard, such as moving stacks to a chest or viewing item details within your inventory.

Additionally, you can now find and use electrical switches. This new feature rounds up working with the electricity system and especially with multiple electrical devices. You can place a switch wherever you like and connect it between two wires, giving you greater control over where your power flows and how it’s used!

Update to v0.7.2:
  • New item Electrical Switch
  • New building Electrical Switch
  • New loot locations
  • Controller's D-Pad can now be used to navigate through menus, including the inventory (this allows for faster interaction)
  • Holding the Y key (on a controller) will no longer show the watch when inside the inventory
  • Pressing the Y key (on a controller) will now trigger the item info window inside the regular inventory
  • Pressing the Y key (on a controller) will now transfer whole stacks of items when inside the chest inventory menu
  • New minimum value for life when reloading in a game (so that you will always start with at least this minimum of life and not reload the game die immediately, before having a chance to interact with anything, because the game got saved with very little health left).
  • A fish trap's time counter until it catches something will now be saved and reloaded (a fish trap will catch something eventually, even when only playing in short sessions)
  • Fish traps will now save and reload if they caught something
  • Fixed that controller users could not click on the 'read' button when interacting with a note
  • Fixed that trigger running on a controller would not drain stamina
  • Fixed that breaking a beach torch drops the wrong items
  • Fixed some air tanks (as loot) sticking out of containers
  • Fixed a loot box's location that could be opened, but the items could not be reached
  • Fixed that pressing ESC to go out of the Pause Menu will not work properly

Co-op updates:
  • When near to other players, you will now see their name-tag above their head
  • Fixed that pressing buttons while interacting with the Pause Menu etc. will also trigger player functions (e.g. hitting, jumping or change tool)

  • Fixed that the gender of players already in the game will not replicate properly for joining players
  • Fixed that wires will not reload correctly for joining players

  • Fixed that players with a high ping could sometimes harvest objects multiple times
  • Improved Gameplay for higher ping connections

Thanks everyone for the feedback and support!

Co-op beta, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), QoL improvements (v0.7.1)

Survivors,

a new and exciting update is now available!

Together with multiple requested quality of life improvements, new birds nests, as a source for feathers and eggs, improved bow and arrow mechanics as well as the new FSR (FidelityFX™ Super Resolution) implementation as a performance optimization option, it is now also time to make a huge step in the direction of co-op in Under A New Sun.

And even though that the game is intended as a single-player experience, it's sometimes just more fun to play with friends or family. To make that happen, almost all functions and mechanics needed to be checked, changed or rewritten again. This took some time of course and is still far from finished, even more so as the game also progresses further and further in other directions.

To get a smooth co-op experience, it's important to test this mode under various conditions, find bugs, Gameplay balancing issues or other problems, and that is where the co-op beta is starting now! This beta is open for every owner of Under A New Sun, and can be accessed through the main game, once the update has been installed (see further instructions under the Co-op updates notes).

Feedback is crucial for the further progression of the co-op mode and therefore feel highly encouraged to join the Discord server (link on the Steam store page for Under A New Sun), leave a note on the discussion forum or write an email once you have noted or want to suggest anything!

The co-op mode for now is in its beta stage and not officially supported or promoted, do not buy this game to just play in co-op, when you expect a fully fleshed out and bug free co-op mode!

Update to v0.7.1:
  • New FSR (AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution) option in the settings menu (Off by default)
  • New FSR Quality option in the settings menu
  • Added description for FSR in the settings menu
  • Removed the resolution multiplier option in the settings menu (not compatible with FSR)
  • New birds nest objects (can be found all over the world)
  • New egg item (can be cooked over a fire)
  • New cooked egg item
  • Birds nests can be harvested for feathers (they will not respawn, once harvested)
  • Birds nests spawn feathers and eggs from time to time
  • Updated some bow and arrow mechanics (arrows should now be easier to recover)
  • Bows can no longer be drawn directly after a shot until an arrow could have been reloaded
  • Pickaxes can now damage entities
  • The coal in forges now burns 50% longer
  • Fish traps now work 50% faster
  • The watch on the players wrists can now be used while sitting on boats or chairs
  • The watch on the players wrists will now beep when switching modes
  • Added new resolution (5120×1440)
  • Tool racks can now be build under floors
  • Updated some elements of the settings menu

Co-op updates:
  • 'Ctrl + Alt + J' will open the multiplayer (experimental) menu, where co-op can be activated for the currently running game (this needs to be done every time a game has been loaded, it will not open to co-op on its own)
  • When co-op is active, the host can invite up to 3 online players (total of 4 players) to his running game, over the Steam interface (Steam needs to be running for co-op to work. By default, the Steam interface can be toggled by pressing 'Shift + TAB' in a running game)
  • When co-op is active and at least two players in game, the game can not be paused
  • The host may kick players out of the session, using the players list in the pause menu
  • When co-op is active and at least two players in game, players can respawn after death
  • A respawned player will start with low life, hunger and thirst
  • A respawning player will leave his complete inventory on his point of death (in a wooden chest, players can only take items out, the chest will disappear when emptied)
  • Respawn points can be set on sleeping locations
  • All players need to simultaneously sleep to skip the night
  • Only the game's host can save the game
  • Inventory and status of co-op players will save when the host saves the game
  • When interacting with a boat that is already controlled by a player, others will just get on top of the boat
  • 'Ctrl + G' will change your characters gender in game (since there is no new game settings menu for joining players yet and commands do only work for the host)
  • Tutorial steps 1-10 needs to be completed by every player alone in co-op
  • Tutorial steps 11 and beyond can be completed together in co-op (only if the players are at the same tutorial step, otherwise a tutorial step can be skipped like before to get to the same step again)
  • Chests can only interact with one player at a time
  • Players can damage each other
