Hotfix Patch

Hey everyone,

a new patch is now available.

  • New swing axe animation
  • New swing pickaxe animation
  • New swing hammer animation
  • Added a subtle camera shake when an axe, knife, or similar tool hits something
  • Added a subtle camera shake when the hammer hits something to build
  • Decreased durability of the container latches (one hit with a novillium axe is now enough)
  • Harvesting a tree may now drop a few more sticks
  • Bird nests now reappear from time to time
  • Adjusted collision on stick wall door frame (for easier roof building)
  • Adjusted collision on stick wall window (for easier roof building)
  • Adjusted collision on stick wall half (for easier roof building)
  • Added torch building locations on stick wall 2x1m
  • Added torch building locations on brick wall 2x1m
  • Added torch building locations on the outside of brick walls
  • Added torch building locations on the outside of stick wall pillars
  • Fixed deconstructing solar panels on a roof don't drop resources
  • Fixed deconstructing the bigger shelter variation don't drop resources
  • Fixed bird nests spawn items after reload even if it is no longer there

Under A New Sun - Current Roadmap

Hey everyone,

after 10 days the community survey has wrapped up – thanks a lot to everyone who voted! Here are the results:

  • Tech update: 35.6%
  • Fauna update: 22.2%
  • Building update: 21.3%
  • Flora & cooking: 20.9%


With the tech update clearly taking the top spot, this will be the next big update. The other three categories ended up in a surprisingly close race, with the fauna update landing in second place. I've also read through all of your added comments and taken lots of notes for further additions or improvements.

Based on that, here’s a breakdown of what’s coming next for Under A New Sun:

  • Tech update: 3D printer for crafting electrical components and other gear (some new and some that could previously only be found), electrical lights, wind turbine

  • Fauna update: a livelier world with more animals and new drone variations

  • Building update: general improvements for the building system, new plank structures to build, more furniture and decorative elements

  • Flora & cooking: more plants to discover and grow, craftable antidote, poison arrows, additional food variety and cooking mechanics

  • Islands / map expansion: more islands in various sizes with new things to explore and more wrecks that can be entered

  • Story: ongoing additions of narrative elements, discoveries, and signs of the crew (this point may not be included in a single update but happen over time together with other updates)

  • Character customization: more options to customize your player character

  • Miscellaneous: various quality of live improvements, expansion of the Fandom wiki, more diving sites and equipment


Keep in mind that some points may change over time with further development and that the order listed here does not necessarily mean that the updates will take place in this exact order nor that there won't be more additions than currently listed. And as always, any suggestions and feedback is very welcome!

I’m currently planning the next steps for Under A New Sun. Since the last roadmap from February 2024 is almost fully completed, it’s time for a fresh, updated one!

There are already a bunch of things on the list, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. You can let me know which features you’d like to see first—or suggest new ideas—via this survey:

The items in the survey are mainly about when things get released. There are plenty of other ongoing plans, like story progression and world expansions, that aren’t included here.

Hey everyone,

a new patch is now available.

  • Added debris floating over the Horizon 7 underwater wreck
  • Added graphic settings option to to disable head bobbing for walking / running
  • Added a warning message to the co-op menu when the game is not properly connected to Steam
  • Localized co-op menu in all available languages
  • Opening the game for co-op will now unpause the game
  • The game can no longer be paused once co-op is active (even if only the host is currently playing)
  • Adjusted displayed text for the radio to show that it can be toggled on/off
  • Fixed cooked food always spawns with 70% durability and not increasing with the cooking still after the last update
  • Fixed snake spawn rate on one part of the big island was too high
  • Fixed achievement 'I'm Back' not working retrospectively
  • Fixed achievement 'I don't feel very well' not working
  • Fixed achievement 'Stone age' not working in games where the tutorial was already finished

Achievements, faster loading times, progression during sleep and more (v0.8.1)

Survivors,

A new update has arrived, bringing exciting improvements and features to Under A New Sun!

A total of 28 achievements have been added, offering new goals to pursue while playing.
The save and reload system has been reworked to allow much faster loading times – to benefit from this change, each existing save needs to be loaded by you once and saved again.
In addition, the world will now also progress further during sleep, which is depending on the total sleep time.

Life on the sailing ship has become more convenient as well: it is now possible to build an air tank refill station, a water generator or a fridge directly on the ship, powered by the already existing solar array that can be built on the ships deck.

For smoother gameplay, the watch is now visible while diving underwater, a crouch ability has been added (making it easier to reach certain spots or build with more precision), and the wire building system received multiple improvements, including a maximum building length that is now three times longer than before.

Update to v0.8.1:
  • Added achievements to the game (28 in total)
  • Reworked some parts of the save and reload system to achieve much faster loading times (this will require you, to load every of your existing games and save it new)
  • During sleep the game is now progressing further (depending on the total sleep time)
  • Sleeping on a ship while sailing increases the traveled distance (not linear - for physics reasons it can only speed up to a certain amount)
  • Air tank refill station can now be build on the sailing ship
  • Water generator can now be build on the sailing ship
  • Fridge can now be build on the sailing ship
  • The players watch can now be seen underwater
  • Added crouch ability (makes it easier to reach some locations or while building)
  • Swapped the songs played by the space radio 9000 (to avoid copyright claims for lets players)
  • Fixed items spawned directly on the ground sometimes glitching through the ground
  • Increased durability for food items inside a fridge (+50%)
  • Increased max length for building wires (now max. 24m instead of 8m)
  • Building a wire will show up in blue until the max. length is exceeded or the attachment point is not available
  • Adjusted behavior of wires during building
  • Added a pop-up screen when trying to overwrite a save file that is not the one that was loaded
  • Added info that bottles filled with dirty water can be used to water plants
  • Increased drag speed for the sailing ship for easier handling
  • Increased building distance from 4.5m to 5m
  • Novillium ore now has a chance to respawn
  • Some synthetic fibers items now respawn
  • Added an indicator inside the fridges inventory, showing if the fridge is active or not
  • Fixed recipe not available for players in co-op following the tutorial, where another player has finished the previous task alone
  • Fixed the computer terminal for co-op games (can now be accessed by every player to achieve the security clearance)
  • Fixed rendering bugs for the female player version
  • Fixed players joining a co-op game while playing in singleplayer causing some of their items and buildings appear in the co-op game
  • Fixed drowning sounds and visuals persist even if an air tank is inserted
  • Fixed solar panel building on roofs
  • Fixed solar panel array on the sailing ship calculating wrong energy amounts
  • Fixed some problems where the sailing ship could start flying in the air
  • Fixed lightning would appear always on the same spot for co-op players (now synchron with the host)
  • Fixed cooking level and XP allocation to the player
  • Fixed snakes spawn in the river sometimes
