Southfield is getting delayed

[h2]Hey Buds,[/h2]

Despite our best efforts, we’ve had to come to the very difficult decision not to release Southfield on June 24th, and delay our launch.

Following our Closed Beta our community gave us great feedback, a recurring problem being performance. In response, we implemented a new way to make the game run more smoothly, which worked well, but created lots of complex issues over the past few weeks.

With a small team, the last thing we want is to put enormous pressure on them to fix these issues for launch and beyond - safeguarding our devs is very important to us. We also don’t want to release a game that isn’t ready.

Southfield doesn’t have a new date yet, and when we find that date we’ll let you know ASAP. This isn’t what we expected to do at such short notice, but we thank you for your support and understanding.

In the meantime, our video does go into some further detail about the reasons behind the performance issues, as well as what we’re currently working on to resolve them.

We’ve also given you a look at some of the many changes and improvements we’ve been able to make since you shared your feedback with us during our Closed Beta. Thank you again for all your comments and suggestions, and for helping our game grow!

[h2]What's up, Buds! [/h2]

Over a thousand new Buds joined us in our Closed Beta, and we welcomed back players from our original Next Fest demo. It’s been a pleasure to watch you all wibble and wobble around the Island, building, growing, exploring… and getting up to all kinds of physics-based mischief.



We’ve also been absolutely blown away by the positivity and support of our growing community. Our devs worked hard to deliver four separate hotfixes during the beta, and that was made possible due to the dedication of our community, and the high quality detail of their bug reports.

[h2]Team Frog VS Team Axolotl[/h2]

During our Closed Beta, we challenged our VIBs (that’s our Very Important Buds) to compete for points, building, growing, automating and exploring. As our first ever Creator Cohort, we were so excited to see what they’d get up to, and they did not disappoint!

[h2]🌈 Rainbow Farm[/h2]

We asked our VIBs to colour coordinate their crops, creating a rainbow farm, featuring as many of Southfield’s various vegetation as possible. We had some amazing submissions, and our team whittled it down to two positively perfect veggie patches.

Rhaps delivered a truly spectacular farm plot, organised by crop colour! They even included some vibrant trees, all crowned in a perfectly timed rainbow arching over Southfield. We took that as a sign that this submission was a true shiny!

Despite having a few setbacks during beta, Mama_Lumi bounced back like a Boinger crop to create a wonderfully vibrant Rainbow Farm. Lumi was very proud of her accomplishments, and for good reason! Just look at these cute little plots. Such variety and colour, a fantastic effort!

[h2]🏡 Till & Turf[/h2]

We challenged our VIBs to build their Buds a brand new crib during the beta. We loved seeing all the different uses of building materials, and the care our creators took in finding great locations with good views!

Chaos_n_Order opted for a stone and glass combination, with a large glass wall opening out onto the Pleasant Plains – bringing the outside inside! We also loved their use of arched pieces to do something a little different with the upstairs windows (and improve ventilation). The whole build was framed with a quaint little fence, carving out a place to call their own.

JaneDash blew our team away with her elevated home, using the Island’s natural landscape to add height and creating an impressive staircase entrance. Jane also included diamond shaped windows for epic views, balconies and a sky view when Bud needs to snooze under the stars!

[h2]🍆 Hurl Your Harvest[/h2]

We wanted to see how far our VIBs could send their Squapples on the longest conveyor belt Southfield has ever seen… and one submission was stand out, hands down, the best and longest conveyor belt ever build in our game!

RhapsPerhaps sent their Squapples, boinged their Boingers, and even bounced their Bud for miles. An astounding feat of engineering, 10/10.

[h2]🖼️ Picture This[/h2]

Our fourth challenge was called “Picture This”, where we asked our VIBs to capture a funny moment from their time playing Southfield in closed beta. Chaos_n_Order delivered with their screenshot aptly named “Praise C4 Tower”, showing their Bud raising their arms in the air while a great towering structure behind them looms.



Meanwhile, Mistie was having a very relatable “This Is Fine” moment, with her Axolotl Bud passed out on the floor, on fire, refusing to move. We’ve all been there, right? But there can only be one winner…

[h2]🎬 GIF That Keeps On Giving[/h2]

And finally, we asked our VIBs for a GIF That Keeps On Giving. The challenge? Capture a moment from the beta that best reflects your experience.



Lofi_Londy came in strong with a pride-perfect Axolotl stretch beneath a vibrant rainbow, making us feel all warm and fuzzy. Then the explosive submission from WaddlesToddles gave our whole dev team a laugh. Gotta be careful around those Kabume crops!

[h2]⭐ Honourable Mentions[/h2]
There were so many great submissions that didn't make it into this recap, and some great clips that might not have been part of our five challenges, but gave the whole dev team a good giggle regardless. From Mistie's community creating a compilation of her talking about her Boingers, to BillieTrixx noticing that the seedmaker sounds eerily similar to the Thomas the Tank Engine theme tune!

Also literally any time one of our VIBs set themselves on fire... Here we have AzureBay accepting her fate having clearly eaten some very spicy vegetables.



[h2]🏆And the winner is... Team Frog! 🐸 [/h2]
Congratulations, Chaos_n_Order, WaddlesToddles, RhapsPerhaps, BillieTrixx, and GeekyN8 - with the most amount of points won, Team Frog is taking it home this time!

And a huge well done to lofiLondy, JaneDash, Mistantics, Mama_Lumi, and AzureBay of Team Axolotl. In the end, the votes came very close. We enjoyed every stream and every silly clip... And can't wait to see what you get up to next! Both teams will be receiving an in-game medal for their Bud to wear with pride.

We're extending our Closed Beta

[h3]Hey, everyone! We're back again with even MORE news![/h3]

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all from me, Flop, the mod team and our devs for exploring the world of Southfield with us for our Closed Beta! The feedback you’ve all given has been super helpful in improving the game as much as we can, and we’ll be working behind the scenes to get everything ready in time for Early Access for you all!

To thank you for all your help, we’ve got some extra special news for you all!
(Drumroll please…)

We’re extending the Closed Beta until Monday 3rd June, 4pm BST! You’ll be able to wibble and wobble yourselves through the world of Southfield, all the way through the weekend! You’ll still be able to create content and stream the game up until then too, and we’d absolutely love to see what you end up creating!

Keep sending your bugs to either the #bug-reporting forum channel, or straight to support.southfieldgame.com and we’ll be gathering them up and sending them to our devs to help improve the game even further!

We also have a small hotfix incoming too, which is mostly just balancing and tweaking based on some of your lovely feedback throughout this beta period!

Hotfix | Keep Calm and Wobble On

[h2]Hey everyone! We’re back again for ANOTHER hotfix update. Didn’t think you’d see us back so soon huh?![/h2]

We’ve been loving the amount of love and feedback the closed beta has gotten in the last week, and our devs are continuing to work hard to fix some of the small issues a lot of you have been running into! We’re back for some smaller bugs to help smooth out your experience even more!

If you run into any other bugs that aren’t noted in our Known Issues thread, or mentioned in any of our hotfixes, you can go to support.southfieldgame.com to raise a ticket, which will go straight to our team. We also have a bug reporting forum in our community Discord. We’re a small team, so we may not be able to reply to every report, but we’ll keep you updated about any fixes!

  • Bud now moves faster in Ball Mode
  • Bud can now move easier in the air whilst in Ball Mode
  • Bud is now slightly heftier in Ball Mode
  • Fixed default settings confirmation screen popping up when scrolling through tabs in the menu
  • Fixed crops not being placed into a seeder when holding down the Y/ Triangle button (controller only)
  • Fixed Lop Hops being too shy. They are now above ground as intended!
  • Fixed some crops decaying in the wild
  • Fixed shiny crops not growing on the correct structure. Some shiny plants have shiny leaves now too!
  • Fixed the Quest Complete screen not going away once the quest is completed
  • Fixed the 'Something Strange' quest not being pinned after finishing the tutorial
  • Fixed a UI issue with closing and reopening the quest menu after pinning a quest
  • Fixed being able to accept multiple of the same quest at the notice board
  • Fixed the Shipping Bin being wrongly mislabelled as the Storage Chest

Hotfix | More Smoosh, No Problem

[h2]Hey buds, another hotfix whaaaat![/h2]

You might have seen we pushed a hotfix yesterday, where we added more poop to the game to resolve a hotfix. This time we’re here to stop the ground eating all your items, because that’s very rude tbh.

As usual, if you need to get in touch with us to report a bug not currently on our Known Issues thread, or mentioned in the fixes below, you can visit support.southfieldgame.com to raise a ticket. We also have a dedicated bug reporting forum in our community Discord.

Please be mindful that we are a small team and may not be able to respond to every report, but we’ll keep you posted on any fixes.

  • Fixed an issue where the game was not saving tutorial progress when reloading*
  • Improvements to performance (less stuttering)
  • The ground should no longer eat your items
  • I kid you not, we’ve added even more poop (Smoosh)
  • We’ve also added more Ooze (dropped from Ruffians, and purchasable)
  • Missing tooltips for certain items in Vendors now show properly
  • Fixed sliders in settings menu stopping player apply new settings
  • Reduced popping issues
  • Fixed the quest board breaking your quest flow
  • World will reset more often meaning more resources
  • More coal available around starting area*
  • More Boingers will appear around starting area*
  • Boingers will now grow faster (more Boingers for you)
  • Eat those Boingers, get more stamina (more energy, more footwork)
  • You no longer get given a singular pebble as a reward for the watering can quest (you get nothing, good day sir)
