Geralt rises again: Doug Cockle lends his voice to our favorite Witcher in Netflix's upcoming animated film

Netflix is developing a new animated film set in The Witcher franchise.

Titled Sirens of The Deep, Doug Cockle will reprise the role of Geralt from The Witcher series video games. A couple of stars from the live-action show will also lend their voices to the film: Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey, who star as Yennefer of Vengerberg and Jaskier, respectively. Christina Wren will voice a new character named Essi Daven.

“I am super excited to announce my return to the world of The Witcher voicing Geralt of Rivia once again,” Cockle told Netflix. “I’m thrilled to be able to share this next chapter of the White Wolf’s journey with fans of the Witcher universe. Mire taedh aen stráede.”

Got high hopes for Cyberpunk 2077's sequel? CD Projekt wants it to put the games on a Witcher-esque trajectory

CD Projekt is aiming to try and mirror the incredible transformation seen across its Witcher games with its follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077.

This is according to CD Projekt Red narrative director Igor Sarzyński, who told PC Gamer that, when it comes to working on Cyberpunk’s sequel, the studio’s collective aim is to emulate the kind of progression that’s visible across the fantasy series that put it on the map. “Consider The Witcher games and how much they changed with each instalment,” said Sarzyński, “We want a similar evolution here.”

The developer went on to explain that as CDPR’s first attempt at realising the vision of a new IP — with fresh elements in terms of gameplay, writing and art that marked a bit of a departure from what it had previously pulled off in other titles — the first Cyberpunk game was always going to serve as a bit of a proving ground.

The Witcher social media throws Liam Hemsworth under the bus

Netflix's season 3 of The Witcher is pushing hard on social media to get people to watch the hottest batch of new episodes. However, in doing so, it looks like new star Liam Hemsworth is taking a back seat to Henry Cavill.

Just one look at recent posts from the show's official Twitter account shows a collage of Cavill-centered real-world marketing. These ads, light shows that display Witcher promotion on the side of famous landmarks, point out that Henry Cavill is still featured in the latest season.

"Yes, he's still Geralt in season 3," is literally up in lights across the world. This says a lot about the current peculiar place the show has found itself in. Henry Cavill is beloved, and in the role of Geralt, he faithfully brought the character to life and garnered silver screen popularity over the past few years. It's no leap to say that he, alongside co-stars Anya Chalotra, Fraya Allen, and Joey Batey, became core to the appeal of the show.

The Witcher Season 3 has a brand-new trailer

Fans of The Witcher’s Netflix adaptation can eat their hearts out this evening, as a new trailer for the upcoming third season of the show has just been revealed at Summer Game Fest.

We’ve already seen a brief teaser trailer for the show’s third season, which also gave us the release date. Fans can expect to catch volume one of The Witcher season three on June 29, with volume two of the season dropping on July 27. We’ve only a few weeks to go, so it’s about time we finally got to see a little more of Geralt and his companions.

It’s also during the third season in which fans will be finally bidding farewell to Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, and instead welcoming in a fresh new face; Liam Hemsworth. This is to the dismay of many, including myself, but we can only hope that Hemsworth gives the role his all and does Geralt justice.
