METAL SUITS, background style, in-game UI, hidden elements, and new chapters

Over the past month, METAL SUITS has been applying changes that are close to metamorphosis.

With a new Head of Art on board, we’re making a number of design improvements and changes. Some of the biggest changes include

 • Changes to background style and in-game UI
 • Added hidden elements and collectibles
 • Added new chapter (planet) concept

Let me explain each of the additions/modifications.

------------------------------------------------------------
1. Changing the way backgrounds style and changing the in-game UI
In the previous version, we applied a square design that utilized the square grid when placing background blocks. Since the empty background blocks also had a square shape like the previous blocks, the overall image looked angular and sharp, but with this change, we changed the background to be smoother.

We also moved the character status UI from the bottom left of the screen to the top left, so that you can see your character's status at a glance.

Another change we made was to make the blocks outside of the player's movement area black to make them more focused on the game. We also made the actual block colors a little lighter, so that the areas where the character is moving are a little more highlighted.
2. Add hidden elements and collectibles
Overall, each stage contains a mix of combat elements and puzzles, and hidden elements and collectible elements have been added to provide a more fun game for those who play meticulously. There are two types of hidden elements that can be obtained.

.

When you destroy the UPC trophy box, the UPC trophy appears. At the bottom of the chapter selection screen, the number of collectible elements to be collected for each chapter and the number actually collected is displayed. (Currently under development, it is displayed as 0)

For extra life items, sometimes they come in boxes and sometimes they are placed on their own.

The hidden elements described above can be discovered as you progress through the game. As you can see by comparing the two images below, I found a life box inside a hidden wall. If you hit the box and break it, a heart that can add +1 to your life will come out.

In addition to UPC trophies and life boxes, there may also be suit boxes or item boxes, so it's worth checking them out if you come across a suspicious wall in your game.
3. New Chapter planet - Mushdora
This is Mushdora, the second planet of METAL SUITS.

Mushdora is a planet with many craters, valleys, and mushroom-like plants growing inside.

As the environment changes, 3 more enemies will appear in addition to the previously appeared Golida enemies.

(1) Golida Orc
Golida Orcs are larger and have more stamina than normal Golidas. When it spots an enemy, it actively approaches it, and when it comes within range, it launches a powerful shoulder dash attack.

(2) Golida Tri-pod - Laser & Missile
The Golida Tri-Pod is an attack robot that Golida rides on. It is classified into robots that fire lasers and robots that fire missiles.

The laser pod fires 6 lasers in rapid succession, so be careful. Missile pods only fire two missiles, but they are guided missiles and should be avoided or destroyed.

------------------------------------------------------------

In the next post, we will explain the new objects, gimmicks, and new chapters (planets) that will be added to Mushdora.
