METAL SUITS, New Planet Tenal, and Improvements

This is already the 10th dev journal of “METAL SUITS”. METAL SUITS is confirmed to participate in GamesCom(B2B, B2C) and Tokyo Game Show (B2C) exhibitions this year, and will participate in exhibitions at BIC (Busan Indie Connect Festival).

Today I am going to talk about the new planet Tenal and how it’s improved over the original game.

--------------------------------------------------
1. Tenal
This is Tenal, the fourth planet of Metal Suits.

Tenal is a planet made entirely of machines. As a factory planet in the Hellios system, it is difficult to tell whether it is day or night as it produces various mechanical devices.

Your mission this time is to defeat the Golida tribes who have conquered the planet Tenal, where you can produce various mechanical devices. As it is a factory planet, there are various obstacles, so you should always play carefully.
2. Objects added to the planet Tenal
(1) Portal & Portal Circle

Users can move to other areas connected to the portal through the portal.

The portal is configured to be able to enter and exit, but in the case of the portal circle, it is configured to only be able to exit.
You never know where the portal will lead, so always be careful before entering it.

(2) Jump platform

Climbing on a jump platform will make you jump upwards. It works by the same mechanism as the ‘Spring mushroom’ from the planet Mushdora.

(3) Steampipe

It is a steampipe from which hot gas is ejected. A small burst of steam is released from the cracked pipe before it erupts, followed by a large burst of steam after a period of time. Contact with steam can cause death, so be careful.

(4) CCTV Gun

It is a device with a gun attached to CCTV to defend against trespassing enemies. It cannot be destroyed, so be aware of the CCTV and move around while avoiding bullets.

(5) Electric guard

An electrical guard that is activated by default and impassable, but becomes inactive when certain conditions are met (using a lever, etc.).

(6) Responsive door

It is a responsive door designed to open when a certain area is reached. It doesn’t open that fast.
3. Added Enemies to the Tenal Planet
(1) Golida Jet and the Shockwave Machine

The Golida Jet is a Golida-type unit that attacks from the air with a jet engine attached to its back, and the Shockwave Machine is a mechanical unit that attacks by firing shockwaves at ground units. Shockwaves will be fired in both directions, so be careful.

(2) Golida Scientist

Golida scientists are purely research scientists so they do not attack.

(3) Mad Golida scientist

The Mad Golida Scientist will attack by throwing a red or blue flask. Red flasks turn into pillars of fire, and blue flasks turn into paralyzing gas.

(4) Robot Dog

The robot dog sounds an alarm when it detects an enemy. When the alarm goes off, enemies will spawn from nearby Golida Warp Doors. Also, watch out for the robot dog as it will lunge near Kevin.
4. METAL SUITS advancement work
METAL SUITS is under development, but since the exhibition is ahead, the overall game is in the process of upgrading. Added lights and improved various effects.

(1) Improved light, fog area, chapter 1 background, and added rain effect

(2) Improved effect when using Gatling Suit special skill

Significant improvements have been made to the overall UI and effects when using Gatling Suit special skills.

--------------------------------------------------

In the next post, I will focus on explaining the changes ahead of the exhibition.

Thank you for reading the development log to the end. If you are interested in our project, please wishlist it.

METAL SUITS, Share the improvements in progress

Hi all. Originally, we wanted to introduce the newly added planet at this time, but we would like to introduce the parts that are improving as new members join the team. Therefore, we will introduce the newly added planets the next time.
This time, we’re going to tell you about the company’s changes and the changes we’re preparing or improving in the game.

------------------------------------------------------------
1. Growth of Eggtart Inc
Around this time last year, members continued to be joined to our team, which had been producing metal suits with three people and now has become a large organization with seven members.
This year, a PD with 25 years of game experience, who is called a legend (?) in the domestic game development industry, has officially joined, and an effector/TA who will breathe life into the game to make it look more colorful, and a talented person who loves game development also joined.

Until the release of “METAL SUITS”, we will proceed with game production with a system of 7 crew. Please continue to support us!
2. Testing 2D lights
“METAL SUITS” is a 2D game, but in order to give a more sense of depth, we have completed testing to add 2D lights and are working on applying them to some stages.

Some stages and areas are being designed so that they can proceed by generating light in the dark, so please look forward to it.
3. Suit design improvements
(1) We improved the design by taking advantage of a few more characteristics of the suits I worked on previously.

(2) Change the idle animation behavior for each suit

Animations that were previously sprite animations have been changed to Spine animations. In the directing video below, the pixels look diagonal, but in the actual game, Pixel Perfect will be applied and they will look neat.
4. Effect improvements
(1) Improvements where enemy attacks were not visible in the explosion scene

There are various explosion scenes as the goal of game production is to make hot battles, but we are improving things that were not able to avoid enemy attacks due to being covered by explosives during play. (Before applying the build)

(2) Suit wear / destroy effect improvement

Previously, it was treated as a simple effect when wearing a suit.

However, this time, the suit-wearing and destroy effects have been improved as follows.

(3) Improved the effect when Kevin dies

When Kevin died, he died a little bit better(?).
5. Sound improvements
Previously, an audio listener was attached to the camera, and all sounds visible on the screen were played regardless of distance. As a result, it is difficult to play various sounds according to the character’s movement and there is no sense of distance. In order to solve this problem, we are working on improving it so that you can feel the sound change according to the environment by applying 3D sound and putting various sounds related to the environment at a certain point with each object.

------------------------------------------------------------

In this post, we told you about various sections that have been improved since new employees joined the company. In the next post, I will explain the new chapter(Planet) that is under development.

Thank you for reading the development log to the end. If you are interested in our project, please add your wishlist it.

METAL SUITS, New planet Elgnu
1. Elgnu
The third planet of METAL SUITS is Elgnu.

Planet Elgnu is a resource-rich planet that produces and supplies all minerals, which are energy sources consumed within the Helios planetary system.

Thus, the main battleground on the planet Elgnu is a mineral mining mine within a cave-like terrain. This mission is to defeat the Golidas who occupied the mines that produce minerals, which are energy sources in the Helios planetary system.
2. Objects added to Elgnu
(1) Mineral block

Mineral blocks with an emerald color are slightly smaller than normal blocks. If you hit it, it will burn, and if you touch it while it is burning, you will take damage, so be careful.

(2) Conveyor Belt & Mineral Generator

A conveyor belt placed in the middle of the map for the purpose of transporting minerals. Because it moves in the direction of the arrow, it moves fast in one direction and slow in the other. The mineral generators placed here and there are configured so that the minerals produced at regular intervals fall. If you get hit by minerals, you will die even if you are wearing a suit, so be careful.

(3) Moving block

A block that appears on the wall and disappears into the wall after moving a certain distance. They are placed all over the mine, but you need to be careful when using them because they disappear into the wall when you move.

(4) Presser

Pressers with different speeds are installed all over the map. Even if you are wearing a suit, you will die if you are crushed by the pressure, so you must move carefully.

(5) Blast furnace

There are also flaming furnaces placed in the middle of the map for mineral crafting. If you fall in to the fire, you will die instantly, so you must cross carefully.

(6) Electric barricade

There are electrical barricades that you simply cannot pass through. Some field barricades are configured to turn off by actuating a lever or de-energizing them.
3. Enemies and gadgets added to Elgnu
(1) Suicide drone

Red Suicide Drones guard the mines. The moment it recognizes the enemy, it is configured to rush and explode. Drones cannot change direction, so dodge them if they try to attack you!

(2) Golida Disk

An aerial attack unit, a single-person flying vehicle ridden by the Golidas. Fires single bullets in the air.

(3) Golida alert machine and Golida warp door

When a Golida soldier activates the Golida Alert Machine, enemies will warp to the nearby Golida Warp Door. If possible, act quickly to prevent the Golida soldiers from activating the Golida alert machine.

(4) Golida Worker

This is a robot used for mining in mines. Since it’s for mining, it doesn’t fire lasers or missiles, but it can attack by extending its arms.

(5) Golida paratroopers

Golida Paratroopers descending from the air. It is a unit that descends quickly, deploys its parachute before reaching the ground, and attacks quickly.

------------------------------------------
※ We received a pen art as a gift for the first time. The main character of METAL SUITS is handsome Kevin.
------------------------------------------

Many elements were developed and added in the last month. In the next post, I will explain the new chapter (Planet) that is under development.

Thank you for reading the development log to the end. If you are interested in our project, please like it.

METAL SUITS, new planet Mushdora

1. Mushdora

This is the second planet Mushdora explained in the previous dev log.

Today, I'm going to explain the added objects except for the 3 types of enemies that have been explained previously and

2. Objects added to Mushdora
(1) Spring Mushroom
Spring Mushrooms will bounce up high when stepped on. Not only the character but also the chasing Golida Orc will bounce up when stepping on the Spring Mushroom.

It is configured to move using spring mushrooms in some terrain.

(2) Poisonous mushrooms
Poisonous mushrooms will be exploded when touched or hit, releasing poison gas for a period of time. Anyone who enters the poison gas takes damage. However, if you get out quickly, you won't take any damage.

If you make good use of poisonous mushrooms placed between the enemy and the character, you can turn the battle to your advantage.

(3) Plant thorns
Just like the drill pod, if you get stabbed by a thorn while wearing the suit, Kevin's suit will be instantly destroyed. There are various thorny roads, so you have to move carefully so as not to get stabbed by the thorns.

(4) Power sources, wires, and connectors
A new device from Mushdora, the power source is a device that supplies energy. It is configured to transmit power through wires.
Therefore, when the power is connected from the power source, it can be connected and operated with various objects which need power.

If there is a connector in an unconnected place, a melee attack can rotate the connector, and power can be channeled through the rotated connector to drive the device.

Various puzzle devices using power sources and connectors will be provided, so please look forward to it.

(5) Foothold mushroom
Foothold mushrooms that can be climbed like bridges are growing in the middle of the wall. You can move down by moving your cursor down.

------------------------------------------------------------

In the next post, I will explain the new planet Elgnu and the enemies and objects that appear on the new planet.

METAL SUITS, background style, in-game UI, hidden elements, and new chapters

Over the past month, METAL SUITS has been applying changes that are close to metamorphosis.

With a new Head of Art on board, we’re making a number of design improvements and changes. Some of the biggest changes include

 • Changes to background style and in-game UI
 • Added hidden elements and collectibles
 • Added new chapter (planet) concept

Let me explain each of the additions/modifications.

------------------------------------------------------------
1. Changing the way backgrounds style and changing the in-game UI
In the previous version, we applied a square design that utilized the square grid when placing background blocks. Since the empty background blocks also had a square shape like the previous blocks, the overall image looked angular and sharp, but with this change, we changed the background to be smoother.

We also moved the character status UI from the bottom left of the screen to the top left, so that you can see your character's status at a glance.

Another change we made was to make the blocks outside of the player's movement area black to make them more focused on the game. We also made the actual block colors a little lighter, so that the areas where the character is moving are a little more highlighted.
2. Add hidden elements and collectibles
Overall, each stage contains a mix of combat elements and puzzles, and hidden elements and collectible elements have been added to provide a more fun game for those who play meticulously. There are two types of hidden elements that can be obtained.

.

When you destroy the UPC trophy box, the UPC trophy appears. At the bottom of the chapter selection screen, the number of collectible elements to be collected for each chapter and the number actually collected is displayed. (Currently under development, it is displayed as 0)

For extra life items, sometimes they come in boxes and sometimes they are placed on their own.

The hidden elements described above can be discovered as you progress through the game. As you can see by comparing the two images below, I found a life box inside a hidden wall. If you hit the box and break it, a heart that can add +1 to your life will come out.

In addition to UPC trophies and life boxes, there may also be suit boxes or item boxes, so it's worth checking them out if you come across a suspicious wall in your game.
3. New Chapter planet - Mushdora
This is Mushdora, the second planet of METAL SUITS.

Mushdora is a planet with many craters, valleys, and mushroom-like plants growing inside.

As the environment changes, 3 more enemies will appear in addition to the previously appeared Golida enemies.

(1) Golida Orc
Golida Orcs are larger and have more stamina than normal Golidas. When it spots an enemy, it actively approaches it, and when it comes within range, it launches a powerful shoulder dash attack.

(2) Golida Tri-pod - Laser & Missile
The Golida Tri-Pod is an attack robot that Golida rides on. It is classified into robots that fire lasers and robots that fire missiles.

The laser pod fires 6 lasers in rapid succession, so be careful. Missile pods only fire two missiles, but they are guided missiles and should be avoided or destroyed.

------------------------------------------------------------

In the next post, we will explain the new objects, gimmicks, and new chapters (planets) that will be added to Mushdora.
Thank you for reading the development log to the end. If you are interested in our project, please add it to your steam wishlist.
