Psycog 101 - Drawing

Hello Psycogs! And welcome to this new Psycog 101!

Victor is still with us, the best of coaches!

Drawing is one of the fundamentals of any card game, cards being your actions, it is primordial to have as many as possible.

"This is why it's mandatory to include drawing cards in your deck, either under the effects of some Mutants, Support or Building cards!"

The first introduction we have to drawing cards are Genetic Cycling cards that we obtain fairly early in the game.

Genetic Cycling all work the same and ask that you discard a Mutant of the same gene as the card.

"This card allow to quickly understand the ressource system of Mutants: Genesis, cards and especially our starter are our ressources!"

It is highly encouraged to use your ephemeral starter, that will spawn in your hand each turn, as a ressource when a card requires a discard.

"We shouldn't forget Bio-Recycling! One of my favourites!"

This card seems bad at first glance: who would like to sacrifice a Mutant and give its EVO to your opponent just to draw? Still it becomes very strong in certain conditions!

The first one is simple, using it on a invoke that is not a Starter or a Fantassin will not give any EVO to the opponent!

"The second one asks to play it on your Starter when the board is empty so you don't give any EVO!"

This card will easily be played in decks that invoke Mutants on the field.

There is finally a support card specific to Necro users: Astralgomancy.

This one allows to have a strong use of Bones in your deck with a huge draw !

"It's not an Ultra for nothing!"

Support cards aren't the only one that allow you to draw, there is also Buildings!

We can then talk about two cards you easily get access to: Data Bank and Data Fuse

The first of those one will draw a lot of cards but is an easy target with 3 HP and 1 EVO!

"The second one is a given draw but it's just one card. Still, it allows you to protect your building line with its Guardian ability."

Oh and don't forget...

"Oh I really like this one, reminds me of forests!"

... the World Tree !

This card is a very powerfull tool that allow you to draw each turn and heal your Psycore at the start of your round, it is one of the rare cards that can do this.

"Yes but don't forget that with only 4 HP it's pretty fragile, the World Tree also gives 3 EVO when it's destroyed!"

It's true. Talking about things that like to be destroyed, what if we talked about the Mutant that allows to draw?

"The Mutant?"

The Mutant, as there is only one at the moment. It's the Lichlock that once destroyed allows you to draw cards. The more ranks you have the more you draw!

"It's one of the cards that really shine with Mass Cannon. It's combos we talked about previously!"

Oh yeah that's right Victor! But to end this article, why is drawing so important?

"Because of the principle of Card Advantage. It's a slightly advanced concept but one you shouldn't ignore."

Card Advantage is a way to measure who has the advantage in the game or not. You say that a Player has Card Advantage when they have more cards and possibilites than their opponent. Drawing is a way to gain Card Advantage.

"I made you a drawing:"

Ahem yes... It's very... Explanatory. Even if its a bit caricatural, we can understand that Player A with 2 Mutants on the field and 5 cards in hand has 7 possibilities compared to the 5 of their opponent. We can say that Play A has a Card Advantage of 2.

This does not win you the game but Player A is in a better spot even if we don't know what Player B has in hand. If they have a lot of cards to draw, Card Advantage can shift!

Here we are at the end of this new Psycog 101! We'll see you for more articles!

Of course they did, of course. See you latter Psycogs!

Psycog 101 - Removals

Hello every Psycogs! Glad to see you for a new lesson!

Victor, your favorite teacher also makes his comeback!

"How are doing my favorite lasses and lads? Today's theme: Removals. A slightly technical term, maybe a bit barbaric, to designate cards that are made to manage the game board!"

Those cards are very important and often take the shape of Support cards. They must be used in most of the decks where they will play a primordial role in order to control the game.

3 of the most important cards in this category are available to all Psycogs almost from the start: : Explosion, Toxic Leak and Foul Play.

"Who doesn't like explosing things? I for sure like it! Explosion is perfect to handle any Basic Mutant that just appeared or to help out finish one that evolved a bit too much!"

To inflict 2 damages anywhere is very useful. Its versatility allow Explosion can also be used to destroy buildings! Making it a very important tool. If we wanted to be a bit more technical, more than a Removal,Explosion is what we call a Ping, it can inflicts damages to any entity.

Toxic Leak is definitely what we call a Removal, nothing resists it excepts Heroics.

"Be careful to not target your own Mutants or their will only be bones left!"

To play it, you'll need to sacrifice 2 cards. Ideally, one of them should be your ephemeral Starter that you get each turns as it is made to serve as a ressource. After that, sacrificing a card dead in hand that does not find any opportunity to be played is a good idea.

Finally, Foul Play is a main asset and defines actually a lot of the way to play the game!

"I think its name is fitting... Gmrpf"

Foul Play is very powerful but has very strong conditions in order to be played. If your opponent starts to play a lot of Mutants, it even might be interesting to wait and play it on a target with a lot of EVO. In case your opponent is just playing with 2 Mutants on the field,Foul Play might still be played in order to deal with a very annoying Mutant, even if no EVO is earned.

"Since Foul Play is in almost all Decks, you need to anticipate it: play a lot of Mutants at the right moment or play it safe!"

Into the Void is very simple in its use.

"You can deal with anything!"

It's a black hole. Everything disappear and nothing comes out! It's the perfect tool to handle with the worst threats as long as you are willing to sacrifice the EVO tied to the Mutant. If you were wondering which Heroic card to craft first, it might be this one!

Destroying or inflicting direct damages to Mutants is not the only way to deal with them.

"Yes, we shoudn't forget a way to do it that I particularly appreciate it. Cooking them! Do you know that I love BBQs?"

Incinerate is a Mythic card that has the ability to affect everything on the board. This is the perfect card to handle multiple Mutants with low HPs during the same turn.

Mystic decks can also play Set Ablaze that allow to apply Burn 3 on a Mutant, enough to deal 6 damages in 3 turns! It can also, like Incinerate, trigger all abilities that use the Burn effect.

"Don't we forget Cannons? I love Cannons!"

Techs are specialists of this beautifulk tool we called Cannons with Scrap Metal Cannon that allow a very efficient removal, especially in decks that generate a lot of Parts!

Still, its Mass Cannon, available in all decks, that is particularly versatile. This card allows to play very powerful combos. A concrete exemple is present in the last deck list we shared in our latest article here.

"We can use Genshiryoku who's a Zoo by the way! It generally appears on the field with a lot of stats and can attack and then be sacrificed using Mass Cannon to do a lot of damages."

This can allow you to win a game sometimes!

As you can see, Removals are very useful and can find their way in most decks. We highly recommend that you play them!

We hope this article was useful.

See you soon Psycogs!
