Introducing a New Arena and New Boss in Update 2.5

[h3]Will you conquer the Beast? Or will you be forced to pray for mercy?[/h3]

In our latest update, we’ve added a brand new arena called the Temple and a horrifying new boss, the fabled Beast that has devastated Mirah’s homeland.

We’ve also added new weapon variants, updated gameplay mechanics, more balancing, and much more, so read on to find out everything that’s included in update 2.5!



At the loftiest point on the cliffs, you’ll find the Temple. Once a temple of the old god, it has since been desecrated and overtaken by the Cult of the Beast, a group of people driven mad by starvation and cut off from the Lord of the City. In their desperation, they have turned to worship the very source of their strife - the sea.

This new arena comes with new story quests and a new boss, known as…

The Beast.

The fetid creature that has haunted Mirah’s homeland. After emerging from the water, it poisoned the crops and plunged the land into darkness. It breathed life into its vile minions, which then spread across the land, corrupting and destroying everything in their path. Yet, within its heart lies a secret. A darkness so deep that all light is lost within it. The key to its destruction.

Alongside the Temple and the Boss, the following weapon variants have been added in this update:

  • Enchanted - 1 Additional effect and max roll of elemental damage
  • Flawless - Max rolls on physical, posture, and elemental damage
  • Godly - Max rolls on everything and is multiplied by 120% with an additional effect
  • Jinxed - Additional effects have max rolls and are 50% stronger. One of them will be negative
  • Kings - Max rolls on everything and is multiplied by 110%
  • Massive - Max rolls on physical and posture damage. Multiplied by 120%
  • Spellbound - Max rolls on elemental damage. Multiplied by 120%

We’ve also updated the following gameplay mechanics:

  • Mother sells keys for feathers now.
  • Materials of the NPCs and enemies have been optimised.
  • Changed drop tables, skills, and special attacks are much harder to obtain, and weapon parts are much easier.
  • The generic quests don't drop singular keys or small feather packs anymore.
  • The quest design has been changed: the player needs to play the Forest level at least twice, first time to escort the father, second time to escort the mother, and complete the “Come Back Home” quest.
  • Elemental totem attacks don’t deal posture damage anymore.
  • The ‘Exploder’ enemy now has a cooldown to avoid overlapping issues.
  • Video tutorials have been added for the camera prompt in the menu.


And balanced the following skills accordingly:

Fist of Heavens
  • lvl 1 20 -> 15
  • lvl2 40 -> 30
  • lvl 3 60 - > 45


Bloody Refuge
  • lvl 1 heals 1 -> 1
  • lvl 2 heals 2 -> 1.5
  • lvl 3 heals 3 -> 2


Lightning Eye
  • Count is now capped at 16


Tool of Impact
  • lvl 1 cooldown 1.2 -> 1.5
  • lvl 2 cooldown 0.9 -> 1.2
  • lvl 3 cooldown 0.6 -> 0.9


Tool of Incision
  • lvl 1 cooldown 2.4 -> 3.0
  • lvl 2 cooldown 1.8 -> 2.4
  • lvl 3 cooldown 1.2 -> 1.8


Tool of Impalement
  • lvl 1 cooldown 3.6 -> 4.0
  • lvl 2 cooldown 2.7 -> 3.0
  • lvl 3 cooldown 1.8 -> 2.0


Tools of Unity
  • hammer spawn Chance 5% -> 3%
  • sickle spawn Chance 5% -> 4%


Fissure
  • lvl 1 cooldown 5.0 -> 6.0
  • lvl 2 cooldown 4.0 -> 5.0
  • lvl 3 cooldown 3.0 -> 4.0


Fist of Heavens
  • lvl 1 cooldown 2.0 -> 3.0
  • lvl 2 cooldown 1.6 -> 2.5
  • lvl 3 cooldown 1.2 -> 2.0


Holy Bolt
  • lvl 1 cooldown 1.0 -> 1.2
  • lvl 2 cooldown 0.8 -> 1.0
  • lvl 3 cooldown 0.6 -> 0.8


Seal of Metatron
  • cooldown 15.0 -> 20.0


And, last but not least, here are the bug fixes that are included in this update:
  • The enemy AI has been improved, so now there should be way less spam of unblockable attacks.
  • The player no longer gets stuck in the special attack animation if the player activates the special attack quickly after getting hit by any unblockable attack.
  • The enemy spawn animation has been improved, and the player no longer gets stuck when the enemies spawn right in front.
  • The skulls' VFX disappear properly if the enemy deals an unblockable attack during the 'Fear the Reaper' special attack animation.
  • The soul-consuming VFX for the 'Shrines' will now appear properly during the 'Spiteful Shrines' quest.
  • Multiple UI and resolution fixes have been done across multiple languages.
  • Localised the 'Shrines Filled' objective counter for the 'Spiteful Shrines' quest.
  • The player can now navigate properly in the ‘Travel’ UI with the controller.
  • The ‘Corpse Explosion’ & ‘Bloody Ulcer’ no longer get activated for passive skills.

Reap the horde in the new content update - Reaper 💀

[h3]We’re excited to release our second content update. A new weapon, a new quest, and a few adjustments to strike fear into the hearts of the ravenous monsters[/h3]

In this update, we’re introducing a new weapon, the Scythe, a weapon that deals higher physical damage and normal elemental damage. The scythe also has a unique 5-attack combo, something entirely unique to the other weapons.

The new weapon also comes with a new special attack, which can be unlocked by defeating the Guardian to acquire the new weapon art. Players can switch out the weapon arts at the ‘Workshop’ and select the new one, a devastating attack that spawns a few skulls that will affect the enemies with the 'Fear' status effect, causing the enemies to take increased damage.

Spoilers on how to get the Scythe, so if you don’t want to know, skip this paragraph - The player receives a 'Scythe part' after defeating the guardian, trading with the vendor NPC and also from the chest in an arena.



Alongside the Scythe, we’ve also included a new quest, ‘Find the Abandoned Provision’, which will now be added to the quests in non-endless levels.

Here are a few other adjustments and fixes we’ve made for this new content update:

  • Added a mechanism that pushes away enemies when Mirah lands on them

  • Fire aura damage changed
  • level 1: 2 -> 1
  • level 2: 5 -> 2
  • level 3: 8 -> 3
  • fissure damage per tick changed
  • level 1: 2 -> 2
  • level 2: 4 -> 2.5
  • level 3: 6 -> 3
  • Fire aura grows only when the player uses melee attacks
  • Fire aura interval is now increased, from 0.7 sec to 1 sec
  • UI navigation: Players can now use keyboard or controller to navigate through the equipment/Supplies/Rations/Skills/Rewards in the pause menu.
  • Mirah will not be staggered during a special attack (Still receives damage)
  • The player is no longer staggered when Chainer grabs Mirah
  • Changed blood vfx to be directional and less obfuscating. There was a complaint that when there's a lot of blood on screen, it’s hard to see what’s going on
  • The player fails to skip the conversation with the NPCs in the 'Hub' area when using the \[Space] button - FIXED
  • All non-endless levels got their navmesh cleaned up. This should resolve 100% of the spawning enemies in inaccessible places issues


Spear adjustments
  • light combo speed +20%
  • heavy combo speed +10%
  • physical damage 12 -> 9
  • posture damage 12 -> 16
  • increased hitbox size


Hammer adjustments
  • light combo speed +10%
  • heavy combo speed +10%
  • physical damage 16 -> 12
  • posture damage 20 -> 24


Gauntlets adjustments
  • physical damage 8 -> 6

We’re excited to let you know that we have released our first content update for Hordes of Hunger Early Access.[/h3]

Sharpen your skills and take on the horde in our new Endless level, Denial. Encounter a whole new area and prepare yourself against the relentless monsters.

You can also test your mettle in 2 brand new quests! There’s the Avoid the Flood quest, which can be found in the Main Square, Watermill, and Forest levels, and the Spiteful Shrines quest, which can be found in the Keep, Festin, Watermill, and Forest levels, along with both of the endless levels (Rage and Denial).

Rage mode also got a new update recently, where the level is capped at 60. This is a test of endurance, with the difficulty increasing by 20% for each time the player reaches max level or when the player completes 24 quests. Players can enjoy pushing their limits as they challenge themselves in these Endless levels.



Of course, a content update wouldn’t be complete without a few bugs that have been ironed out:
  • [Gameplay] You can now perform special attacks mid-air.
  • [Gameplay] Fixed the bug that stopped you from leaving the playable area after a special attack in the Festival arena.
  • [Gameplay] Fixed the bug where the player would become stuck in the parry animation if the player parried in the poisonous rain during the Stand Your Ground quest.
  • [Visual] Fixed the bug where the title would fail to scale the window resolution properly.

We have been working hard on a variety of different aspects of Hordes of Hunger, and have been listening to your feedback. We are excited for the future of the game, and present to you this list of hotfixes and adjustments for the most recent update. 

[h3]ENDLESS MODE[/h3]

We’re excited about the release of Endless Mode in Early Access, and truly appreciate your patience and support. While we’re happy with the initial launch, we’ve identified some areas where improvements are needed to enhance both performance and replayability. As players progress and reach higher levels, we’ve noticed performance issues that require attention. Additionally, as your character grows stronger, the content doesn’t scale quite as we intended, which can impact the overall challenge and enjoyment. To address this, we’ve implemented several adjustments aimed at increasing difficulty in a fun and engaging way, while continuing to optimize performance behind the scenes. Your feedback is incredibly important to us during this early access phase, and we’ll be closely monitoring your experiences to guide future updates. 

  • Endless mode adjustments - Player level is capped to level 60 in Endless Mode, with increased difficulty (20%) each time the player reaches max level or when the player completes 24 quests.

  • [p][Endless Mode] The title will no longer spawn enemies inside the environmental assets if the player stands in some locations in the 'Rage' arena.[/p]
  • [p][Enemies] The enemy will no longer spawn in the air throughout the gameplay.[/p]
  • [p][NPC] The trade screen no longer overlaps with the pause menu if the player interacts with the vendor NPC 'Girl' and invokes the restart confirmation screen.[/p]
  • [p][Endless Mode] The title no longer freezes when the player progresses further after completing 10 cycles in the 'Rage' arena.[/p]
  • [p][Enemy] Fixed the bug where the enemy spawns inside the environmental assets in some locations in the ‘Keep’ arena. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the low enemy spawn count when the player navigates to the top of the tower in the ‘Cathedral’ arena. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] The enemy no longer spawns under stairs in some locations in the ‘Cathedral’ arena.[/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the irregular enemy spawn noticed in some locations in the ‘Cathedral’ arena. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Enemies no longer climb on top of environmental assets and get stuck after performing a lunge attack. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Enemies no longer get stuck in the air after performing a lunge attack. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the issue where enemies had improper movement during combat. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the issue where the enemy failed to track the player if the player spawned in some locations in the ‘Keep’ and ‘Watermill’ arenas. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the issue where the title spawns enemies mid-air in some locations in the ‘Cathedral’ arena. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] The ‘Chainer’ enemy no longer pulls on the player after getting inflicted with the ‘Bloody Ulcer’ skill. [/p]
  • [p][Enemies] The ‘Scavenger’ enemy no longer appears after the quest ‘Stop the Scavengers’ is complete.[/p]
  • [p][Enemies] Fixed the issue where the player can go out of the chained radius when the ‘Chainer’ enemy gets affected by the ‘Fissure’ skill.[/p]

  • [p][Controls] The issue where the player fails to assign directional arrow keys properly in the controls menu has been fixed. [/p]

  • [p][UI] The issue where the mouse cursor fails to highlight the UI buttons/icons after pressing Alt and Enter twice and resizing the window has been fixed.[/p]

  • [p][Skills] 'Totem of Thunder' no longer fails to spawn if the player acquires the skill after maxing out the 'Totems of Pain' skill[/p]

  • [p][Skills] The title no longer drops 20 FPS if the player activates the 'Purge' status on more than 7 enemies at the same time[/p]
