Your Launch Day Guide to The Shattered Warpgate!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
A strange, alien energy of mysterious origin lurks beneath the surface of Esamir - foreboding, unpredictable, and potentially catastrophic. Welcome to The Shattered Warpgate, soldier!

This massive game update has been (many) months in development, pre-dating even Escalation in some of its feature planning. Not only does The Shattered Warpgate introduce a ton of exciting new features and changes, it strives to weave the lore and story of PlanetSide into a major content update in ways we've never done before. This is arguably our most ambitious update since Construction released over 4 years ago, reflecting our team's commitment to bringing you major biannual releases that permanently evolve and expand the world of Auraxis. After weeks of community testing, we're thrilled that The Shattered Warpgate is now available for you to download for free on Live PC servers.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
At the heart of The Shattered Warpgate update is our Campaign System, which introduces new open-world storytelling experiences that unfold across multiple chapters. Players will take part in unique, lore-driven Campaign Missions during each Chapter, earning thematic rewards for successful completion. The first Campaign will run for 3 months (1 month per Chapter), though the scope and scale of future Campaigns may change as we iterate off player feedback.

The Shattered Warpgate Campaign tells the story of a cataclysmic environmental event on Esamir triggered by the seismic detonation of the Continent's Northeastern Warpgate. Nanite Systems spearheads the investigation into the mystery behind the event, enlisting the help of soldiers from all Empires to mitigate the disaster. As an investigator, you will be tasked with exploring the origins and impact of the Warpgate's destruction, discovering new revelations and dangers along the way. Can you solve the mystery of The Shattered Warpgate?

Players can opt-in to the Campaign either via Membership (unlocks automatically) or by using Certs (Cert costs scale by Battle Rank to alleviate the requirements for newer players - full Cert costs can be found in the patch notes).

This is just our first Campaign, with future Campaigns set to pickup the story while permanently evolving the world and gameplay of PlanetSide 2, offering new rewards along the way.
ESAMIR REIMAGINED
The first thing you'll notice in this update is the dramatic transformation Esamir has undergone. It has been many years since the frigid tundra of this classic continent had a facelift, and this update aims to expand, alter, and improve its visual and geographic landscape.

With the destruction of the Northeastern Warpgate, the resulting explosion has revealed the remains of a mysterious and ancient Vanu superstructure that stands time-frozen beneath a great vortex of swirling energy. The devastation has dramatically altered the landscape: tech failures, derelict bases and vehicles, bursting energy geysers, glacial ice flows and strange new alien plant life now litter the land.

Even the skies glow anew with Auroras and crackling energy, casting a strange green pallor across the battlefield.

In the aftermath of this cataclysmic event, Nanite Systems have unveiled The Haven, the first mobile Warpgate, replacing the now-destroyed Warpgate in a new location to the East. These environmental changes are more than just visual - the Lattice itself has been reconfigured, bases altered or abandoned, and the sudden appearance of a powerful energy storm adds a new threat to contend with...

The mysteries behind these dramatic changes can only be unraveled by completing story missions from the first Campaign, which delves into the origins of the Warpgate's explosion, and uncover the dangerous forces seeking to manipulate the endless planetary war on Auraxis.
COMPLETE NEW DAILY MISSIONS
Underpinning the Campaign system is our dynamic new Mission system, introducing daily quests and challenges to PlanetSide 2 that can be completed for rewards. While Campaigns offer unique Story Missions, every player regardless of rank will have access to a regular Mission Board in Sanctuary that resets daily. New Missions are available in a variety of rarities which represent difficulty, time investment, and reward levels. All-Access Members will automatically be granted additional daily Mission unlocks, though all players will have the option to choose which Missions they undertake on any given day.

You can check out the Mission pool in the patch notes, or peruse the Mission Board in Sanctuary at your own pace as you seek out new challenges and rewards!
CONQUER THE STORM
The most profound environmental change to the Continent of Esamir is the introduction of a roaming energy storm, the first hazard of its kind in PlanetSide 2. Attracted to mechanical signatures, the storm targets areas on the map where action is heaviest, putting players - particularly players in vehicles - in danger from powerful lightning bolts. The storm's energy can also impact vehicle handling, though its affects can be escaped or alleviated entirely by sheltering in buildings or leaving its confines. Players will also gain new items and abilities to negate and even harness the storm's energy over the course of the first Campaign, including Insulated Vehicle Armor, Lightning Grenades, and the Lightning Arrester deployable.

This is a major change and we'll be carefully monitoring its impact on gameplay, adjusting the strength, speed and effects of the storm based on player feedback.

These are just a few of the many highlights coming in The Shattered Warpgate - additional new features include new weapons and equipment like the Icepick Melee Weapon, Sanctuary Improvements like Cross-Faction Text Chat, Outfit Resource Rebalancing, Indar Terrain Improvements, and much more. All of the above has gone through extensive community playtesting on the Public Test Server (a big THANK YOU to all of you who joined us on PTS and helped with feedback) and will continue to see iteration and hotfixes on Live servers.

Full patch notes for The Shattered Warpgate are available over on the Forums. We'll address issues as they arise, so please keep pointing them out to us. And once this update is out in the wild, stay tuned for news on our next Double XP For All event...

Full patch notes for our FINAL Public Test Server update before The Shattered Warpgate is ready for Live deployment!
The Shattered Warpgate (PTS Update 4)
We mentioned in previous PTS updates that The Shattered Warpgate would be coming to Live once we've gotten it into a good state. Thanks to all of your feedback over the multiple PTS publishes, we feel that we're very near that mark. The last leg of this journey will be to give you unfettered access to our new Campaign's first chapter. More details on that below... but before that, some important PTS information:
  • While on PTS, you'll find an interactable object next to the new campaign vendor on Sanctuary handing out FREE STUFF. Interacting with this holographic Flash will provide you with currency and certain campaign items for testing purposes. Some of the items granted will not be available during the first Chapter of Campaign 01.
  • All Missions, including new "Training" missions geared toward new characters, will be available for testing when the pre-requisites are met.
  • Esamir (and all continents) will be unlocked 100% of the time for this testing.
  • Crafting of Orbital Strikes will be disabled for the PTS publish.

This weekend the following playtest schedule is in effect:
    Sept. 26, 2020 - 10am PT / 7pm CEST
    Sept. 26, 2020 - 2pm PT / 11pm CEST
The goal for these playtests will be to gather feedback and bug reports on the first Campaign, as well as the Training Missions added to the mission pool. Beyond these playtests, we encourage you to run through the Campaigns and available Missions at your own pace.
Campaigns
With The Shattered Warpgate update, we introduce our first-ever "Campaign" to the game.

The story of The Shattered Warpgate centers around the detonation of a Warpgate in northeastern Esamir. Nanite Systems spearheads the investigation into the mysteries surrounding the event, and enlists the help of soldiers across all empires to help return stability to the land.

What's a Campaign?
  • A Campaign is a multi-staged progression of the in-game world that takes place over several Chapters.
  • Participating in a Campaign will unlock lore-driven story missions that explore the evolving war on Auraxis, and the minds of those behind it.
  • Campaigns and their Chapters are specifically crafted to be completed without an extensive time commitment; and the events therein are meant to exist alongside the normal day-to-day gameplay of the world.
What's a Chapter?
  • Chapters are time-locked segments of a Campaign, and cannot be repeated, or participated in if you miss out.
  • Each Chapter tells a separate portion of the overarching story, and the world continues to evolve with each Chapter.
Unlocking the Campaign

The certification cost of a Campaigns scales with Battle Rank, and players with an active membership gain access automatically.
  • BR 1-10 = 500 Certs
  • BR 11-20 = 750 Certs
  • BR 21-30 = 1000 Certs
  • BR 31-40 = 1500 Certs
  • BR 41-50 = 2000 Certs
  • BR 51-60 = 2500 Certs
  • BR 61-70 = 3000 Certs
  • BR 71-80 = 3500 Certs
  • BR 81-90 = 4000 Certs
  • BR 91-100 = 4500 Certs
  • BR 101+ = 5000 Certs (Including players who have ASP.)

We hope you'll find The Shattered Warpgate a welcome change of pace that will cement elements of the existing lore while continuing to create new stories for all to enjoy.

Known issues on PTS: We're continuing to refine some elements of these missions, so please submit feedback and bug reports. In addition, strings are not currently localized for all languages, and you will see broken strings until the localization pass is complete.
Mission Changes
• Training: Instant Action - Use Join Combat, kill an enemy.

  • Training: Message Courier - Pull a Harasser and deliver messages to allied bases.
  • Training: Infiltrator - Earn recon experience, hack enemy terminals/turrets, kill an enemy.

Adjustments have been made to the following missions.
  • Supply Convoy - Has received some cleanup, and convoy vehicles now have a special convoy hologram visual attached to them.
  • Surveying the Land - Updated interactable visuals and other misc. cleanup.
Environment
• Esamir's Map - The map of Esamir has been updated to include the new terrain.
  • Esamir Storm - The storm now displays its precise area of effect on the map at any zoom level.
  • Mani Processing Plant - Added Sunderer garage east of the base, converted base to a one-point capture, moved northeastern building closer to the Tower.
  • Excavion DS-01E - You can no longer hide beneath the shield in the center.
  • Snowshear Fort - This base has received additional cover.
  • The Crown - Players will no longer see capture point "D" on the map or HUD.
  • Lettuce of Indar - All of the lettuce racks on Indar have been returned to their rightful place, including Biolabs and Ceres Hydroponics.

Known environment issues:
  • Kill planes beneath the water in the northeast are currently inoperable in most places and will be fixed in a later update.
  • Tapp Waystation and Untapped Reservoir will receive hardspawns and vehicle pads in a later update.
  • Jord Amp Station has a floating shield on the second floor.
Vehicles
Liberator
  • Aircraft nosegun resistance (type 8) from 80 to 83.
  • A2A lockon resistance (type 45) from -100 to -75.
Dev Note: These changes walk back some of the vulnerability to noseguns given in the last PTS update. A2A lockon missiles, like Tomcats, will now retain the same shots to kill as on Live despite the health pool change in the previous PTS update.

ESF
  • Wyrm minimum damage from 250 to 275.
Dev Note: These changes result in a slight boost to the effectiveness of this weapon at extreme distances.

Galaxy and Bastion
  • A2A lockon resistance (type 45) from -125 to -100.
Dev Note: For the Galaxy, this is a small change in the realm of being able to survive one extra Tomcat lockon missile, but with a typical repair convoy, this small change should pay dividends for overall survivability. For the Bastion, the goal is to to reduce some of the extreme value lockons currently have against the weakpoints, though these changes don't dethrone the weapon by any means.
Infantry
MAX
  • Burster indirect (flak explosion) damage from 25 to 28.
Dev Note: Burster MAX should feel slightly less impotent now when dealing with aircraft.
Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions
• Empire Strength now operates solely based on the percentage of territory captured, and whether or not there is a link to an enemy Warpgate. Numbers will likely receive tuning prior to release.
  • Esamir default lattice has more even starter territory distribution.
  • Representative Ayla now has an updated character model.
  • Adjusted Representative Foster's idle animations.
  • Added voice lines to some of the NPCs in Sanctuary.
  • There is a new horn available for the Colossus in the Depot.
  • Observer camera can no longer capture vehicle capture points.
  • Reduced the quickest respawn time available by 3 seconds.
  • Re-enabled the "Exit Tutorial" button in the tutorial.
  • Cleaned up various mission/update related strings.
  • Lightning Grenade detonations no longer sometimes deal damage indoors.
  • Decals on the Armadillo Sunderer cosmetic are no longer tiny.
  • Esamir's A7 Datanode locations have been redone.
  • Esamir storm will no longer display on incorrect continents when viewing the map screen.
  • Removed various leftover painfields on Esamir.
  • Tutorial zone's map no longer shows as "Locked."
  • Selecting Koltyr on the World Map no longer shows broken image.

PTS Game Update: September 18, 2020

A new Public Test Server (PTS) patch for the upcoming PlanetSide 2 game update, The Shattered Warpgate, is now available to test! This is our third time patching PTS in anticipation of this major game update, and each period of testing and refinement gets us a little closer to Live deployment. Once we've got the update into a good state, we'll share our launch date with the community.

Patch notes for previous PTS updates can be found here and here. Test Server installation can be found here: http://launch.daybreakgames.com/installer/PS2_Test_setup.exe

PTS has been updated with the following changes:
The Shattered Warpgate (PTS Update 3)
• While on PTS, you'll find an interactable object next to the new campaign vendor on Sanctuary handing out FREE STUFF. Interacting with this holographic Flash will provide you with currency and certain campaign items for testing purposes.
  • Campaigns will be disabled in this initial update, and a limited pool of missions will be available to test.
  • Esamir (and all continents) will be unlocked 100% of the time for this testing.

There will be no official playtests this week, due to the scope of the changes, though we encourage you to continue sharing feedback on missions, bases, and any bugs you find on PTS.
Environment changes
• Shattered Warpgate Shallows - Fixed the northern shallows area so that it doesn't dip beneath the water plane.
  • Jord Amp Station - More cover has been added to the C point.
  • The Traverse - The capture point for this base is now placed on the bridge, and the bridge itself is shattered, creating a sort of jumping puzzle that players will use to reach the point.
  • Nott Communications - This base is now almost entirely underground, built into a faster than normal 3-point capture with a unique gameplay loop.
  • Echo Valley Substation - There is now a sunderer garage east of the base. Vehicle shield is no longer opaque. Adjusted cover.
  • Mattherson's Triumph - Sunderer no-deploy zone has been moved to allow attackers to deploy a Sunderer in the west-most tower.
  • Eastwake Harborage - Significant updates to capture point area. Additional cleanup.
  • Andvari Ruins - Is now a three-point vehicle capture base.
  • Eisa Tech Plant - Extended capture timer on this base.
  • Grey Heron Shipping - Broken door to the underground can now be easily crouched beneath, and defenders from the spawn room can now reach this area more easily. Various cover additions and fixes.
  • Excavion DS-01E - Changed the A capture point building location. Using the tunnels now brings you to a covered, indoor location. Sunderer no-deploy is now visible. Various cleanup.
  • Vidar Observation - Now has a vehicle terminal.
  • BL-4 Recovery Point - Now has working spawns/terminals/shields, and has also been given a vehicle terminal.
  • Jaegar's Fist - Fixed the trench's size to allow for easier passing beneath. Outer spawnroom shields are now one-way, allowing defenders to shoot out.
  • Genudine Gardens - Vehicles should no longer be able to enter from the gap in the southeastern wall. Fixed various height issues throughout the base.
  • Electrical Storm - We're currently working on getting more accurate UI indicators of the storm's size integrated into the map. Some additional fixes are needed, but its work-in-progress state is now available.
  • Various cleanup of floating grass, trees, textures, and very likely a bunch of additional minor base changes that are not listed here.
Known environment issues:
  • Kill planes beneath the water are currently inoperable in most places, and will be fixed in a later update.
  • The Crown's D point has been removed (intentionally,) but still appears on the map and HUD.
  • Ceres Hydroponics continues to have missing assets in the capture point room.
  • Jord Amp Station has a floating shield on the second story.
  • Snowshear Fort remains unfinished.
  • Mani Lake Processing will receive changes in the future.
  • Tapp Waystation and Untapped Reservoir will receive hardspawns and vehicle pads in a later update.
Vehicles
Colossus
  • Deployment Shield damage has been reduced by 50% across the board.
Dev Note: We're increasing the survivability of the Colossus' deployment shield significantly, though there will likely need to be additional tuning on a per-type basis following this change.

Liberator
  • Maximum health from 5000 to 4500.
  • Resistance to aircraft noseguns (type 8) from 85 to 80.
Dev Note: These changes bring the Mosquito's Needler, as an example, from 22.4 seconds to kill to 14.4 seconds to kill at optimum range. Tomcat A2A Missiles go from an 8 shot kill to a 7 shot kill, or from 6 shots to burning to 5 shots to burning. Dalton goes from a 4 shot kill to a 3 shot kill. These changes, especially the nosegun resistance, are a fairly significant modification to the current power balance of ESF and Liberator. We will continue to monitor feedback and adjust as needed.

Nanite Costs
  • Harasser nanite cost from 150 to 300
  • Lightning nanite cost from 350 to 300
Dev Note: Overdue housekeeping change as Harasser/Lightning have been balanced along similar lines in recent years, and should result in slightly fewer Harassers on the field at any given time.

Aspis Anti-Air Phalanx Turret
  • Projectile lifespan from 1.2 seconds to 2 seconds.
Dev Note: This returns some of the range that was lost in a previous update, increasing the maximum projectile distance from 450 meters to 750 meters.
Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions
• Added hover-over tooltip for Campaign Standing currency.
  • Made adjustments to Join Combat to target better locations.
  • Cleaned up text in various Missions.
  • All three holo-globes in the Expeditions vendor on Sanctuary can now be interacted with.
  • Representative Foster in Sanctuary now has custom idle animations.
  • Fixed an issue where water would be rendered over the environmental fog at long distance.
  • Esamir water now renders for clients on low graphical settings.
  • Revisited loading screen tips to ensure accuracy, and added new ones related to Bastion, Colossus, Missions, and Campaigns.
  • Reduced the rate at which the animated Mission indicator pulses on the HUD.
  • Improved the hitbox on the Depot button, so it doesn't interfere with clicking on Accept Mission.
  • Fixed a misspelled word on the Sanctuary news prompters.
  • Skyshield Modules now prevent Lightning Bolts from spawning nearby.
  • Explosions from Lightning Bolts and Lightning Grenades are now blocked by Construction objects.
  • Reclaimed vehicles no longer despawn while at Eisa Tech Plant or an allied Warpgate unless you are on a Mission asking you to return them.
  • Reclaimed vehicles no longer float away on death.
  • Reclaimed Sunderers' equipment terminal can now be interacted with.
  • Fixed an issue related to reclaimed vehicle HUDs.
  • Adjusted objectives dialogue for completed Missions on the Mission screen.
  • Sunderer textures should no longer appear as all black when spawning the vehicle.
  • Camos should now appear properly on characters, instead of sometimes showing missing.
