Cardboard Town v1.4.0 - Booster Packs Update

Hi Mayors!

With this Major Free Update we are adding to the game:
- New System: Booster Packs
- 4 Booster Packs
- 2 New Buildings
- 2 New Action Cards

With this update, we are introducing Booster Packs which will let you choose a category and create cards from that category in your hand.
Booster Packs
"Available at all times" way to get these Booster Packs is via Star Quests.
Now whenever you complete a Star Quest, you'll be presented with 3 Booster Pack options.

The Booster Packs are:
- Housing Booster: Gain 3 Random Population Buildings
- Essentials Booster: 1 Water, 1 Electricity, 1 Random Resource Building
- Action Booster: 3 Random Action Cards
- Luxury Booster: 3 Buildings that cost 7 or more.

If you like the concept, we can add more booster packs in the future, so make sure to let us know!
New Cards
Booster Pack Factory
Spend a lot of resources to gain a Booster Pack!

Memorial Park
Destroy a random card from your hand and gain some environment!

Resealing:
Destroy 3 Cards. Get a Random Booster Pack.

Unhinged Training:
Destroy your hand. Get 2 random Booster Packs.

Hope this update will both give you more control over your playstyle with the choices of your booster pack and will still keep it fresh since packs are full of surprises!

Enjoy the update and have fun building away, Mayors!

Celebrating 100,000 Downloads with a New Update!

Hey Mayors,

Thank you so much for 100,000 Downloads!

We keep saying we are done updating the game and it's complete, but your love keeps making us come back and we have a new update on the way for you!

Before we jump into that, we'd also like to announce Cardboard Town is joining Steam City Builders & Colony Sim Fest with our deepest discount!

And talking about city builders, in case you missed them, just letting you know that we have a lot of them:
Stellar Settlers - A Space Colony Builder
Mini City: Mayhem - A hectic, cute town builder
Hexaroma - Chill village builder
Kingdom's Deck - An upcoming deck / castle builder

You can get them as a bundle and save, don't forget to wait for the festival to start for a better discount!
Booster Pack Update is on the Way!
Our next (and maybe really final this time?) update is called The Booster Pack Update. We are working on it to release as a free update on June 8th, 2025.

Upon completing Star Quests in a run, you'll be able to choose a booster pack that - obviously - includes some random cards in a theme.

Examples:
Housing Pack: Get 3 random population buildings.
Essentials Pack: Get 3 basic resource buildings.
Luxury Pack: Get 2 buildings that cost $7 or more.

This will give you some control on what type of cards you want to add to your hand while keeping the fun randomness of Cardboard Town.
Other Ways To Get Booster Packs in a Run:
We'll have some new action cards that generate booster packs. However, to combat deck bloat, those cards will need you to destroy some existing cards first!

Remember that Discard and Destroy are different mechanics and destroying a card permanently removes that card from that run (but of course you find / obtain that same card again later on)

Resealing: Destroy 3 Cards. Get a random booster pack.

Unhinged Trading: Destroy all cards in your hand. Get 2 random booster packs.
A New Building:
We've talked about how you can't open booster backs freely with too many cars in hand, so we have a new building to help you get rid of a card to make some room.

Memorial Park: Destroy a card to play, gain some Environment.

We are also planning on a Booster Pack Factory building which needs a lot of resources but generate you a booster pack.

That's mostly it for the June 8th Booster Pack Update, do you like it? Do you have ideas? Do you want anything else? Please do let us know and maybe we can make it happen!!

Thanks for reading Mayors, see you on the festival!

v1.3.2 - New Cards Against Deck Bloat

You thought days of update for Cardboard Town are over? Well, we thought so too.

After we've parted ways with the game's artist and tired from developing the game from all these months, we wanted to focus on our newer titles.

But as we had the chance to take a little break from Cardboard Town and studying the style of the game with our new team members, we've wanted to add some new stuff to make the game even better!!

Cards Against Deck Bloat

To have a functioning city, you need many different cards. But many cards means you have less control over your deck. We've heard your feedback on this and thought it would be a good idea to fight this with even more cards.

Jokes aside, our 2 new buildings (which are in the Starting Deck now) let you destroy some cards, so you can get rid of ones that you don't want in your deck.

Asphalt Factory
It's a cheap building that lets you have some pocket money in terms of Tax Dollars (this lets you go over your maximum money, so it helps fight the RNG with drawing expensive cards early) and with Turn to Gravel you can Destroy a Card to generate a one-time-use road.

So while this building generates 2 cards, both of them are destroyed upon use and one of them even lets you destroy any card you don't want in your hand.

Waste Management Facility
This building (also in the Starting Deck) generates an Action card called Decompose, which you can use to destroy a card to gain some resources.

Having two cheap buildings that let you destroy cards will let you get rid of cards that you don't want in your deck and hopefully combat the deck bloat issues!

99 Problems but a Resource ain't one

Now you can effectively remove a resource from a run! Stabilizing a resource will mean it will be locked in place, it will no longer trigger with effects and can not be reduced or increased.

Don't want to care about your people's safety? Then don't!

But of course this is a very powerful effect, so it's not easy to come by. You need to find the Resource Fusion Center first from one of your 'get a new card' events. Then, you need to place that building to get a random resource Stabilizer added to your deck.

When you draw that stabilizer, if you don't like the resource it stabilizes, fret not! Just discard it to get a new one.

While this is a neat new feature, as with all things new, it might cause bugs. So if you encounter one, please do let us know!

Two More Things...

Finally, we have another fun building for you; R&D Facility.
This building creastes a Tax Dollar and a Random Action Card for all you excitement seekers out there!

Also we have a new action card that can be found during runs called Fruits of Science, which gives you one of each resource. Nice!

With more deck control cards in the starting deck and our new mechanics, we hope you'll enjoy the new version of Cardboard Town!

New City Builder Game Coming Up!

We also have a new city building game in the works! It's less card focused and more shape focused, a cute little game where you can stack buildings on top of each other. If you want to check it out, do it so here:
