DevLog#2 : Combat Mechanics
SkyVerse Dev-Log: Let’s Talk Combat!
Hey there, adventurers!
Welcome back to another SkyVerse dev-log.
If you missed the first one where we explored the game’s biomes, go check it out it’s a great intro to the infinite, blocky world of flying islands we’re building.

Today, we’re diving into something a little more action-packed: combat.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Explore, Fight, and Loot!
SkyVerse is all about exploring floating islands, gathering resources, and uncovering secrets. Along the way, you’ll stumble upon dungeons filled with enemies and treasures. Some are easy to spot on the surface, while others are hidden deep underground, packed with traps, puzzles, and epic loot.
Pick Your Weapon
The arsenal in SkyVerse will be highly diverse, offering numerous types of weapons you can craft or find as loot. Weapon categories include:

• One-Handed Weapons: Good balance of speed and damage, plus you can use a shield.
• Two-Handed Weapons: Slower but hit like a truck.
• Daggers: Super quick for rapid strikes.
• Bows: Attack from a distance (don’t forget to stock up on arrows!).
• Magic Staff: Cast spells and bring some magic to the fight.

We also plan to introduce two new weapon types, which will remain a secret for now. Though many details may change before the game’s release, one thing is certain – the quantity and variety of weaponry will not disappoint!
Combat Mechanics.
Every swing, slash, or spell costs stamina, so you’ll need to keep an eye on that stamina bar. Run out mid-fight, and you might have to back off, catch your breath, or chow down on some food or potions to get back in the game.

Weapon handling is simple and intuitive:

Just click the left mouse button for a single attack. Feeling fancy? String together four quick clicks to perform a combo—a chain of rapid strikes that temporarily boosts your attack speed.

And for those of you who like to pack a punch, most weapons (except for magic staves and bows) have a heavy attack. Just hold down the attack button to charge up a devastating blow. It uses more stamina but deals serious damage and can even stun enemies. Plus, your heavy attack animations change based on how you’re moving—charge forward, sweep sideways, or strike as you retreat. It’s all about bringing the drama to the battlefield!

Each weapon has several attributes affecting its combat effectiveness:

• Damage: Determines how much health you take from an enemy with each hit.
• Critical Damage Chance: Higher values increase the likelihood of landing powerful critical hits with bonus damage.
• Durability: Weapons degrade during use, especially when blocking attacks. Damaged weapons can be repaired at repair stations or with repair tools anywhere.

Ready to test your skills? Let’s go!
Gear Up for Adventure.
Armor is just as important as your weapons. You’ll have helmets, gloves, boots, and even gliders to help you explore the skies. Gear can be upgraded and enchanted to boost your defense, and Weapons can also feature magical attributes and upgrades to enhance their combat capabilities by adding effects like freezing enemies or causing bleed damage.
What’s Next?
We’re still tweaking combat, adding enemies, working on implementing wildlife and much more.

Also, we will soon be launching our Kickstarter campaign in March, to help us support game development, so stay tuned as we are planning to share more exciting news very soon, and maybe a new trailer!

DevLog#1 Biomes and World

Hey Everyone,
We’re excited to kick off the first of many Devlogs, where we’ll take you behind the scenes of our game development journey. We’ll dive into upcoming plans, future updates, and, of course, give you some amazing sneak peeks at what’s in store.
Let’s get straight to it.

Different biomes in the SkyVerse World:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

During the month of October, we presented you with 3 different biomes from the world of SkyVerse : The Forest, The Jungle, and Rotten.
We are now ready to give you more insights about each biomes and what to expect from them:
1. The Forest:
The forest biome is where your adventure begins! It stretches across islands floating in the air and on the ocean, in the lowest parts of the world. Most of these islands are covered in dense forests, rich with essential resources for your development. In these forests, you'll find an abundance of mushrooms, fruits, and vegetables, along with various animals – from adorable capybaras to menacing undead skeletons who have made the forest their stronghold. But don’t worry! The forest is the most ordinary biome in the SkyVerse universe!
2. Rotten lands:
The Rotten biome is a place that stands in stark contrast to the vibrant, colorful forest. The ground is toxic, plants are decayed, and the atmosphere... feels heavy and oppressive. These islands surely hide a dark history within. Here, you'll find industrial structures made from an unknown type of metal—massive constructions filled with mechanisms and technology that you might just be able to master.
3. Jungle Biome:
The Jungle Biome is a place where it’s incredibly easy to lose your way! The dense forest hides one of the three civilizations inhabiting our universe (though we won’t reveal which one just yet!). Hidden high up in the clouds, this biome is infused with magic that flows through both the plants and the inhabitants, who know exactly how to harness it. The climate allows unique plants to flourish, and the lush vegetation often conceals relics of this place's past. Stay alert! One wrong step, and you might find yourself in ancient, underground structures!

Combat system teaser

To finish up the biome description, here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming in the next Dev-log. Right now, we’re working on the combat system, one of the game’s main mechanics. SkyVerse is all about RPG elements, so using weapons well will be very important. You’ll have different types of weapons, each with its own style. There will also be ranged options—bows and magical staffs that can cast different spells. All this and more coming soon!
