December's Development Recap

Hello and hopefully you had a great holiday!

It's time to talk about AI and why I have been so quiet for almost a month.

Development Progress Update:

I spent couple weeks thinking how I want the AI to operate/work and I took some time off to relax.

Working on AI really isn't my speciality so things will take longer, but I'm learning in the process.

Development on the AI is going great so far though, but nothing major to show yet. Hopefully soon!

Playtest 5 has now ended

Hello!

I would like to thank everyone who tried Project Zero out! Means a lot to me.

The playtest player wise wasn't super great, but maybe some day we will get there.

A lot of new bugs & issues were found which is good.

Next playtest will be sometime next year, but I'll inform you all once it's time for that again.

I'll be working hard till something "huge" happens again. Next things I'll be fully working on is to get the AI back to a working state and after that get BOMB game mode working again.

Possibly more stuff, but I'll let you guys know in the next development log which will come out 1st of January.

Playtest 5 Information

Hello!

I have been talking about the next playtest over the past like 2 months, but now the time has come.

Playtest 5 will be starting on November 24th and will end on December 10th.

Let's go through what has changed.

[h2]ADDED[/h2]
  • Now when staying inside a molotov, the damage you take increases.
  • Added new options: Refresh Rate and Shadow Quality.
  • Added Hit Sound for headshot.
  • Added an pop up for Gun Game which shows what weapon you are going to get next.
  • Added a new command to be able to change binds inside Console.
  • Added translation for Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Turkish, Korean, German, Finnish and French.


[h2]BUG FIXES[/h2]
  • Fixed couple boxes not showing on City.
  • Fixed some weapons feeling heavier than others.
  • Fixed Team Selection not showing player counts correctly.
  • Fixed Weapon Loadout bug.
  • Fixed a crash when buying something from Shop.
  • Fixed Player Avatars not always showing (hopefully).


[h2]CHANGES[/h2]
  • Reduced Grenade damage radius.
  • Modified UI when successfully buying something from Shop.
  • You are now able to access Console anywhere.
  • Made changes to player animations.


[h2]REWORK[/h2]
  • Reworked Team Selection.
  • Reworked recoil system. Now weapons use spray patterns.
  • Reworked Castle map. (not all textures have been applied due to still being WIP.)


[h2]IMPROVEMENTS[/h2]
  • Improved performance.
  • Improved textures for maps.
  • Improved lighting on Market and Training map.
  • Now when you play against bots, it's fully offline.

Monthly Recap: October's Development Progress

Hello! It's that time again to let you know of the progress I have made last month.

Development Progress Update:

1. [Player & Weapon Animations]: I added & remade most of the player animations which are not completely done yet. I have added some weapon specific animations, but all are not added due to me still testing stuff out.

2. [Performance improvements & bug fixes]: I have again been optimizing the game as much as I can and fixing bugs for the next playtest.

3. [Localization]: I have started doing some localization for the next playtest, because not everyone understands english.

Future Roadmap:

The roadmap is exactly the same from the last one, nothing new yet.

About the next playtest though, I have been thinking about doing it this month.
Not sure when exactly, but hopefully ASAP.

I'm really excited to let you guys experience all the stuff I have done and give me feedback because your input will shape the future of PZ.

Development Log 11

Hello you all!

There has been some progress since the last Development Log. Let's get in to it!

Development Progress Update:

1. [Bot Improvements]: This is currently on hold because of alot of time wasted on stuff which I had to delete. I have made some progress on this though, like AI behaviour somewhat working, detection, etc.

2. [Overhauled Recoil system]: This new system now uses recoil patterns so every weapon will have it's own. Below is an link to a video of the AK-47's recoil pattern (Not final).

3. [New Networking System]: I talked about switching the networking solution some time ago. I have made some progress with the new system, but not nothing huge yet. Still testing and learning new stuff. I'll keep you updated on the progress when I feel like it's necessary.

4. [Hit Sound]: I added headshot sound and a body shot sound whenever you shoot an enemy.

5. [Castle Rework]: I had this on my to-do list for a long time, but now finally I was able to start reworking the map. The map is "done" which means that it's playable, but I need to add textures, etc.

6. [Performance improvements & bug fixes]: I have been working on improving the performance and fixing some small bugs.

7. [Settings]: Added Refresh Rate dropdown and Shadow Quality options.

8. [Grenade improvements]: I improved how the grenades are being thrown and reworked how the damaging works. Before the grenade checked once if a player was inside the explosion radius even if the player moved away the player would still take damage. Now it won't damage you if you move away from the grenade.

9. [Crouch Spam]: I have been working on crouch spam prevention to make gun play more balanced gameplay.

Future Roadmap:

Here's the almost same roadmap from the last dev log. Couple new things.

1. [Playtest 5]: Next major milestone will be Playtest 5, where I'll gather even more feedback and fine-tune the game based on your input.

2. [Proximity Chat?]: This I'm not sure of yet, but I have been thinking about adding Voice Chat to allow players talk to their own teammates.

3. [Bomb Rework]: This is currently on hold because of other stuff to do which are more important so this will be done in the future.

4. [Better spectator system]: Currently the spectator system is really bad like in elimination. This new and better system would allow you to switch between players to spectate when you are dead.
