Devlog #4: Meet the Trains of Station to Station

Hello conductors and welcome back to another devlog!

With our launch date now confirmed (October 3rd, 2023 in case you don’t know), we thought this was a great opportunity to go through all of the trains you can expect to see in the game at launch.

Every train in Station to Station is based on a real train, so we’ll also be going through all of the inspirations for our trains, as well.
Freight Train - Inyo
The first train you’ll encounter in Station to Station is our freight train, inspired by the Virginia and Truckee Railroad No. 22.

It was first built in 1875 and pulled both passenger and freight trains, although in Station to Station it only transports freight.
Heavy Freight Train - DR 89 6024
The next train you’ll discover is inspired by the DR 89 6024. Based on the Prussian class T 3 locomotives this three-axle steam locomotive was developed by Henschel & Sohn for private and industrial railways.

It is used to represent our Heavy Freight train in Station to Station, which gives you a bonus for the amount of freight transported by one rail.
Passenger Train - Grote Groene
When you enter Sunscorch Sands you’ll unlock the Passenger mechanic, which brings with it a brand new train!

The Big Green is our team’s favorite train inspired by the Grote Groene (SS 326) and it’s currently housed at the Spoorwegmuseum near our office.
Luxury Passenger Train - Crampton
The Sunscorch Sands region will also introduce you to the luxury passenger train!

This train will give you a 50% bonus for each passenger it transports and is inspired by the Crampton 4-2-0. This steam locomotive was used across Great Britain, France, and Germany in the mid to late 1800s.
Mountain Train - Darjeeling Express
We love trains with unique colors, so we had to add the gorgeous blue Darjeeling Express to Station to Station.

The Darjeeling Express is used for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and climbs from about 100 m (330 ft) above sea level to about 2,200 m (7,200 ft), making it the perfect locomotive for our Mountain train.

Use this train when climbing hilly terrain for a bonus!
Mixed Train - Merddin Emrys
Next up is the Double Fairlie Merddin Emrys, named after the legendary Welsh wizard Merlin!

This double-engined locomotive is still in use today on the Ffestiniog Railway and we thought it was the perfect choice for our mixed train! A mixed train can carry both freight and passengers between two locations.
Express Train - Bristol and Exeter Railway 4-2-4T
Our final train is introduced in Region 5 (Golden Dunes) and is inspired by the Bristol and Exeter Railway 4-2-4T.

This train can almost reach 90 mph at full speed, which makes it perfect for our express train! Our express train is the fastest train in Station to Station and is used to transport passengers quickly from city to city! Use this train for traveling long distances, and get a nice little bonus for doing so.

And that’s it!

What do you think of the trains that will be included in the launch of Station to Station? Which one is your favourite?

There are less than two weeks to go until Station to Station launches! We’re in full bug-swatting mode now but we have one more surprise before launch that we’ll be announcing next week.

We hope to see you then.

Develog #3: Region 1 - Greendale

Hello conductors,

With less than a month to go until Station to Station arrives on your PCs, we wanted to give you the chance to see the first region you’ll be able to play.

This region has 5 levels to play through, which will introduce you to core game mechanics, like building and connecting your stations, and the first two cards - Cheap Rails and Cheap Bridges.

For players who tried the demo, this region will be slightly familiar although we have changed the layout of some levels and added new industries for you to discover!
Industries
Like the demo, Greendale is a chill countryside region with lush greenery. This makes it very popular for farming, which will be the main industry you’re connecting.

But we’ve also added a new, never-before-seen industry to this region - fishing!

Fishing docks are a brand-new industry type and can be found near bodies of water. They produce fish that can be transported to cities for money.

We don’t want to spoil too much about the game, so this is just a very brief overview of the first region you will discover in Station to Station! There’ll be much more to discover come launch day on October 3rd, 2023.

We hope to see you then.

Station To Station delivers minimalist railway management in October

Developer Galaxy Grove have announced that the minimalist railway game Station To Station is wheeling to release on October 3rd. That’s an already packed month for exciting games, but I’ll forgive this one based on how damned good those voxels look. Plus, a relaxing railway management game might be the perfect antidote for Big Game Burnout in the coming months.

Devlog #2: We’re taking your feedback on board!

Hello conductors,

When we released our demo for Steam Next Fest, we asked you to provide feedback and you definitely delivered! We’ve had over 700 responses to our feedback survey, not to mention all the Steam discussion threads, and Discord posts.

We’ve read every single piece of feedback and we wanted to share some of the things you suggested that have already made it into the game.

If you haven’t already filled out our feedback form, you can do that here!
Future Building Markers
This was a big one for players!

Being able to plan ahead is very important, so we’ve added building markers to every level. In the future, new buildings will replace these resource piles, which should help to plan better going forward.

If you've already played a level, the marker will show which building will appear there. If you haven't played a level, the text will say “Something is under construction.”
Water
No world is complete without water!

While you can’t dive into this beautiful blue, your trains can choo-choo over and around it. We’re adding a range of different water features to levels for you to navigate, including rivers, lakes, and oceans!

This will also add new features for you to contend with, like expensive water bridges.
Intersecting Tracks
This was another great suggestion that should really help to lessen the impact of bad planning or, simply, mistakes.

In later levels, you’ll unlock special cards that will let you intersect tracks. This will let trains cross over each other’s railroads, reducing the need for a costly bridge and letting you easily access areas that may accidentally have been closed off.
PickUps
This was a really fun idea from one of our Discord members and we loved it!

In certain locations around the map, there will be “Abandoned Goods” that a player can collect by building a railroad through them. These will provide you with more money if you’re willing to go to the trouble of collecting them.

This idea adds a little extra challenge for players and encourages them to not always use the easiest route.

These are just the first changes we’re making to the game based on your feedback! Outside of these, we’re also adding more industries, train types, and biomes to the game for you to discover!

Last week we reached 120,000 wishlists, which is beyond incredible to us and, if you haven't already seen, we're looking for Playtesters! Make sure to join our Discord and fill out the form there to get involved.

We’re so excited to be sharing our little train game with all of you soon!
