Iberia: Tollgates & Toll Roads

Spain and Portugal have an excellent and fast motorway network which spans the entire peninsula, and in comparison to other European countries, it has very few motorway tolls. However, you may still find yourself travelling on a toll road or coming across a toll plaza when driving across our upcoming Iberia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Any driver and their wallet traveling across Europe would be very familiar with paying tolls, especially in countries such as France, but there is a good reason behind them. Toll roads give road users the option to drive on a better maintained, less busy, and more often than not, a faster route to their destination. However, these roads can rack up quite the bill when you're doing a lot of driving in a day.

The Iberia DLC will feature an array of different toll booth designs and technologies, from the slower traditional tolls with barriers, to the latest in toll road technology; overhead cameras reading every vehicle's tags without them needing to slow down!

We look forward to sharing more about Iberia with you soon, but until then, please keep in mind that the images and visual lighting you see featured in this post are still in a work in progress state and may not represent the final released product.

Whilst the tolls may hurt your wallet virtually, one thing that is free is adding Iberia to your Steam Wishlist! It really helps supports us and our upcoming releases and we thank those who have already done so!

Truck Simulator devs affirm "faith in science" after "unfortunate phrasing" of COVID-19 event

January 22, 2021 SCS Software says that its COVID-19 delivery event was prompted by a "civic duty to promote the notion that vaccines are our hope for the future."

A new event is underway in both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 called Hauling Hope: a series of challenging missions in which you'll attempt to safely deliver COVID-19 vaccines to various destinations. Despite an announcement broadly implying that these vaccines are a positive thing, developer SCS Software appeared to be strangely cordial toward anti-vax sentiments in its messaging, but the company now says it is "proud to stand behind sound policies and good research."

"An accompanying press release that followed the initial announcement of the event carried an unfortunate rephrasing of the original message on our blog," an SCS representative tells us via email. "This message may have given the wrong impression that we are denying responsibility by avoiding a clear stance on COVID vaccines. Our position is as such: we created this event to recognize the sacrifices of truckers and logistics staff in these difficult times. We are resolute in our belief that vaccines offer a glimmer of hope for normalcy once again, and we are proud to stand behind sound policies and good research."

SCS says that it "felt a civic duty to promote the notion that vaccines are our hope for the future, but also wanted to minimize controversial imagery such as syringes."

Hauling Hope Event

Virtual Truckers of the world, we are all still enduring hard times, as the world continues to battle COVID-19. The fight is not over, but we can see light at the end of the tunnel, we see hope in the creation of the COVID-19 Vaccines and their rapid worldwide roll-out. We would like to, once again, recognise the selfless drivers and support crews working so incredibly hard to achieve this goal. So, we are inviting you to take part in personally delivering these vaccines, across any and all trucking territories in the World of Trucks Hauling Hope[ event!

Last year, in March, we asked you all to respond in the way we thought best, which was to take part in the unprecedented #TruckAtHome event. The community effort was incredible, it was at a level of participation that we had never seen before. We celebrated with you all further, by delivering financial support and supplies directly to those on the front line, for each new milestone that the community reached.

This time, it will be your own personal journey. Our slogan is #HaulingHope, and the goal is for you to deliver this fragile and precious cargo undamaged, so you will need to be extra careful when making your delivery. The cargo will have a zero-damage tolerance and will require a Fragile Cargo skill, level 1, to be carried.

This event is a chance to take part in delivering something more than just a cargo, it's a chance to deliver hope to the world, if only virtually.

Where you go and how far you haul will be up to you. What is important is that you enjoy the event, spread the word so that others can share the hope, and stay safe and healthy.
#HaulingHope Event Rules:
Using External Contracts with a World of Trucks-connected profile in Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator or both, your Personal goal is to complete at least 7 undamaged deliveries of COVID-19 Vaccine cargo across any trucking territories. To be able to see and carry this cargo, you need to have a Fragile Cargo skill of at least level 1.
Reward:
Personal goal: Your contribution of 7 or more deliveries of COVID-19 Vaccine cargo will gain you:
 • A World of Trucks Achievement.
 • A prestigeous, Hope Trucker Insiginia, cabin item to hang in your truck.

The event will be concluded on Sunday 7th February 23:59 UTC.

#XmasWiseGiving + #CruisingColorado Conclusion

The holiday season is a time of rest for most people, but for the logistics industry, it is the busiest time of the year! Over the past couple of months, drivers from across the world have united to deliver gifts wisely on both sides of the Atlantic in our Christmas Wise Giving Event.

Thousands of deliveries needed to be made for cities across both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator and our #BestCommunityEver delivered! We thank you for all the hard work and time each of you put in to help unlock rewards for all drivers to enjoy in-game.

In less than 24 hours, drivers have already completed their personal goals of completing 15 deliveries across Europe/USA and 75 of the 350 hearts and gifts needed to receive the first tier of the community rewards. By the end of the first day of the event, Osnabruck became the first city to max out on both given and received gift deliveries and you, the community, reached the first tier!

With that kind of momentum, it was no wonder that the final tier of the community goal was achieved on the 27th of December, just 10 days after the beginning of the event! The rate of deliveries completed even had Santa in the North Pole shocked!

We want to thank every single driver who contributed to the event, and to those who really went the extra mile. It really brings a huge smile to the faces of the SCS team to see how much you enjoyed these events, and how you managed to complete them quicker every year, despite the many deliveries we challenge you with. We hope you enjoy the unique Christmas accessories and paint jobs that you have so rightfully earned and use them as a reminder of this year's event.

However, the #XmasWiseGiving event wasn't the only event you could take part in during the festive period. For the first time ever, we had 2 consecutive World of Trucks events running alongside each other!

On November 12th, with the release of Colorado for American Truck Simulator, we began the #CruisingColorado event. We set a goal for truckers to drive 60,000,000 combined miles whilst delivering to or from any of the 13 cities in the state of Colorado. With Colorado themed rewards to be earned, it only took our community 7 days to reach the goal of 60 million miles, incredible!

This really does go to show the strength and power of our community when we work together. We thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing more development news with you in the future.

Iberia: Madrid

A trip to Spain is not complete without a visit to the country's capital city, Madrid! Located practically near the geographic center of the peninsula, Madrid is home to the Spanish Royal Family, lots of historical architecture, and two world-famous football clubs.

Today we are happy to share with you these new images from our upcoming Iberia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, which will also feature our new visual lighting implementation. Please keep in mind, however, both the lighting and map expansion seen in these shots are still 'work in progress' and may not represent the final product at the time of release. However, we hope you enjoy them!

So what awaits drivers who visit Spain's most populous city? The city of Madrid will feature accurately-created highways, famous stadiums such as the "Coliseum Alfonso Pérez" and a range of industries for drivers to discover and deliver cargo to. From food markets to railway terminals and truck factories, drivers will find no shortage of contracts to help contribute to the local economy.

With sunshine, beautiful city views, and deliveries to be made, we are sure Madrid will be one of the top destinations on your list to visit when Iberia releases. Do you recognize any of the areas featured in these images? Let us know!

Excited about the release of Iberia? Then don't forget to add it to your Steam Wishlist! It really helps support us for future releases for our trucking titles.
