New Demo for Steam Next Fest!

It's Steam Next Fest and we have a new demo for you to try!

Meet Selene, a new ice themed Guardian to lead your defenses!



As an elvish priestess she combines holy arrows with her frosty aura.
While she lacks the armor of the Knight, Selene more than makes up for it by sheer force of will.

To complement her we also have a new hero the Ice Mage for you to unlock.

The demo is fully playable in 16 languages now:

Your last chance to play the demo!

Yes, that's right. The demo will be removed from Steam next week.



And that is not easy for me. The demo has been incredibly important for Super Fantasy Kingdom. It is so easy to forget where we came from.

I only had one month to prepare a demo from my prototype. That was so tight that I could not test it, and I was not even sure the concept worked. But then so many people liked it. It was a bit overwhelming but also a big opportunity. How many other games get so much feedback in such an unrefined state?

So, I tried to make the best of it. With your help, I took a year to flesh it out, and I'm so happy I did that.

[h2]Then why take it down?[/h2]

The game is already officially in pre-alpha! The first players are exploring more of the game. It seems to be going very well, so the real alpha will start soon.

But for that, we need hardcore players and new ones who have never played before.

The more I work on the game, the bigger the difference between the demo and the final game, not only in content but also in quality. Slowly, the demo is becoming less representative.

We will likely have another demo before release though!

Super Fantasy Kingdom has arrived in Digital Tabletop Fest 4: Roll of the Dice!

Greetings, rulers; we have some fantastic news to share with you! Super Fantasy Kingdom is taking part in Digital Tabletop Fest 4: Roll of the Dice, hosted by Auroch Digital.



This festival celebrates tabletop-inspired games and the creative studios behind them. From March 7th to March 11th, you can expect to see demos, upcoming titles, and exclusive panels from developers.

Harkening back to the days of kingdom-building in old-school tabletop games, Super Fantasy Kingdom fits right in!

Super Fantasy Kingdom is a roguelike city-builder that lets you build and defend your kingdom against monsters.

Hordes of Monsters!

For the whole last month I worked on refactoring code and performance optimization.



While not as interesting as new content, the results are crazy:

  • Monster performance is 300% better! A screen full of monsters ran at unstable 20FPS before. Now it runs stable at over 60FPS.
  • Projectiles were also improved. Before each behavior of a projectile was a component with a lot of overhead, now they are all just part of one component that handles them.
  • Creating and destroying things takes a lot of time. So now all monsters, projectiles and effects are kept in memory and get reused instead. That makes the game more stable.

That all is not only very cool for the future, but its also important now. When I plan the balance and design the endgame I don't have to hold back.

- Reworked how projectiles are build to increase performance
- Projectiles, objects and monsters are kept in memory and get reused
- Optimized multiple animations to reduce filesize and memory usage
- Status effect pools are created dynamically on need
- Removed a lot of garbage creation
- Switched to a tweening library without garbage allocation
- Improved pathing performance
- Paths and free deposit spots get cached

- Zoom level affects how far sounds can be heard

- Reduced how fast animals run after getting hit
